The Antarctic Transport Terminal was built by Alexander Ashford, son of Umbrella co-founder Edward, in the Transport Terminal that he administered, this having itself been converted from a previously established mining operation. As befitting the hostile nature of the Antarctic, the facility was built mostly underground, with six subterranean stories shown in game. Located within the facility are multiple aircraft hangers, a heliport, dormitories for the facility workers, heavy mining equipment including a tunneling machine, an armoury, a B.O.W storage room, various laboratories, and a replica of the Spencer Mansion's main hall. At the time of the facilities destruction, it was being administered by Alexander's son Alfred Ashford, based at Rockfort Island.

Upon completion, Alexander would use the facility to conduct research into his so called Code: Veronica project. The aim of the project was to successfully identify, isolate and reproduce the genetic material responsible for human intelligence, named for his genius ancestor, Veronica Ashford. The result of this project were the twins, the unremarkable Alfred and the prodigious Alexia. Alexander would meet his end at the hands of his creations within the facility, when he was injected with an experimental virus created by Alexia, which mutated him into an uncontrollable monster, forcing his permanent incarceration.
Alexander's fate was the result of Alexia also using the facility to conduct research into her own project, using ant DNA and an unnamed 'ancient' virus found in the body of a queen ant, she created the T-Veronica Virus which, like the project that created her, was named in honour of the Ashford matriarch. In an attempt to avoid the fate of her father however, Alexia cryogenically entombed herself so as to adapt her body to the virus over time, a period she calculated to last fifteen years. In order to keep this development a secret, Alexia was declared to have died in an accident, her continued existence within the facility known only to her brother Alfred.
Fifteen years later in December 1998, the facility was infected by a T-Virus outbreak, unwittingly brought by survivors fleeing from the Rockfort Island attack. The facility workers became zombies, and many B.O.W.s escaped. The first non-infected Rockfort survivors to reach the island were Claire Redfield and Steve Burnside, followed by Alfred Ashford, then some hours later by Chris Redfield and the ex-Umbrella employee turned rogue agent, Albert Wesker. Alexia awakened and was reunited with her dying brother, promptly capturing Claire and Steve who had managed to escape the facility in a stolen truck. Steve would be injected with T-Veronica and die, while Chris would reunite with his sister, setting a self-destruct sequence and killing an increasingly mutated Alexia, finally escaping with Claire via Harrier moments before detonation.
The facility is currently destroyed utterly, and no further mention of it is made in Umbrella records.
