Resident Evil Zero

The Handgun is available in Resident Evil Zero. It is S.T.A.R.S. member Rebecca Chambers' own Samurai Edge.

Gameplay

The Handgun will be part of Rebecca's default loadout in the main game and in Leech Hunter. It holds 15 bullets at a time. A second Handgun can also be found in Leech Hunter in the Drawing room that is fully loaded.

It works well on zombies and other lesser enemies usually causing them to flinch, but is not suitable for when facing larger enemies, such as Hunters as they have much more health and tend not to flinch as easily.

When combined with the Handgun Parts, the weapon will be called the Custom Handgun. Visually, it adds a small scope on top of the weapon. It increases the chances of scoring a critical hit on enemies and allows it to be fired faster.

  • Examine: Custom Handgun

Resident Evil

"A S.T.A.R.S. custom automatic. Fires 9mm Parabellum rounds."
— Examine Description

The Samurai Edge is available in Resident Evil. If you are playing as Jill, you begin with it in your inventory upon entering the Mansion. If you are playing as Chris, you will find this weapon shortly after discovering the body of your comrade Kenneth. It can be found in the Main Hall shortly after the discovery.

This weapon is good against lesser enemies, such as zombies and crows, but it should be switched out for a shotgun when facing crimson heads and other more powerful enemies.

Barry's Handgun

"An automatic that fires .40SW rounds."
— Examine Description

Barry's Custom Samurai Edge can be unlocked after beating the game on normal in under 5 hours. It is featured with a compensator and an Extended Magazine. It has unlimited ammunition and fires in 3-Round Burst. Strangely, this Samurai Edge model has a higher chance to perform a critical hit to zombies if fired at their legs (This will cause the zombie to explode and will not become a crimson head).

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

The Samurai Edge appears in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis as Jill Valentine's main handgun. It is available as her starting weapon in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on the Hard Mode. In Easy Mode this weapon can be found in the Item Box.

The gun is described as a Beretta M92FS in-game, but it is actually the first game, where the name of that custom Beretta M92F "Samurai Edge" is mentioned.[1]

Handgun

"M92F Custom. A custom handgun made for S.T.A.R.S. It uses 9mm parabellum rounds."

M92F Enhanced

"Enhanced M92F Custom. It is loaded with enhanced 9mm parabellum rounds."

Gameplay

The weapon has a magazine capacity of 15 normal Handgun rounds. It is a preferred choice when fighting lesser enemies such as zombies and Zombie Dogs. However, due to the limited power of its bullets, it tends to be rather useless against stronger enemies such as the Hunters.

The gun is also able to chamber enhanced ammunition, which increases it's firepower.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

The Samurai Edge appears in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. It is used by S.T.A.R.S. Members Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, and Albert Wesker during the Mansion Incident Scenario as the standard Handgun.

Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles

In the Wii version, Chris uses a Samurai Edge during gameplay.  This was changed for the PS3 version.

Resident Evil 5

The Samurai Edge makes an appearance in Resident Evil 5. It is seen used by Albert Wesker during his fight with Chris. He draws it out on Chris during the fight on the aircraft. He points it to Chris' head and says a few lines, before getting interrupted by Sheva stabbing him in the forearm with her knife. After more fighting, the Samurai Edge is shot out of Weskers hand by Sheva. It is presumably lost shortly after the aircraft crashes into a Volcano.

The Samurai Edge is only usable in Mercenaries and Mercenaries Reunion Mode. It is used by Wesker's S.T.A.R.S. Outfit and Barry Burton character in reunion.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

"The Samurai Edge is a custom-made pistol created for S.T.A.R.S.. It was designed by Joseph Kendo and was sold in Kendo's gun shop."
— In-Game Description

The Samurai Edge was first hinted to appear in the game when it was listed in the Current Stock Catalogue for Kendo's Gun Shop Website, which is a part of the Inserted Evil network of websites; a promotional site for REORC. Jill Valentine makes an appearance in the game, using her Samurai Edge. The in-game model has an under-barrel laser module. The Samurai Edge can be selected for use by players while playing as the U.S.S. It must be purchased with 25,000 experience points at the secondary weapons menu. While it is the second most expensive gun in the game, it also has the fastest rate of fire out of all the pistols, the second most damage and a 15 round magazine, making it well worth the buy. This weapon has 60 spare rounds initially and 120 spare rounds maximum.

Jill Valentine is shown in game with this weapon during the mission 1 Eye of the Storm while she escapes from Nemesis-T Type and makes her way through zombie hordes.

Resident Evil: Revelations

This weapon is present in Resident Evil: Revelations and is available after purchasing the DLC "Jill's Samurai Edge + Custom Part: "S.T.A.R.S.". The Custom Part: "S.T.A.R.S." is present in the Raid Mode, but the weapon is present in the campaign as well.

Gameplay

"The standard weapon issued to members of S.T.A.R.S.. Made smaller for easier use. The medalion on the grip is special light blue."
— In-Game Description

This handgun has initial firepower of 140, firing speed 1.77 and capacity of 8 rounds in the magazine. It also has 4 slots, what makes this handgun very useful.

In Raid Mode, this handgun is of level 1 after purchasing. But player can buy this weapon in the Store. The level and price of handgun in the Store will rise with the player's level respectively.

Resident Evil: Revelation 2

Barry's Samurai Edge

In Resident Evil: Revelation 2, Barry brought along his Samurai Edge with him when venture to the mysterious island in the game. Strangely, his Samurai Edge used the regular 9mm ammo and not .40SW like it did in Resident Evil Remake. It can be assumed that Barry modified the handgun later after the mansion incident.

Other Appearances

Placeholder Models

During the first trailer released for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Claire can be seen wielding Samurai Edges. However, the guns have been completely removed and replaced with the appropriate VP70 for Leon, and Browning Hi-Pwer for Claire.

Also, during Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles the Samurai Edges used by Chris, Jill, Rebecca, Wesker and Richard are incorrectly modeled as standard 92FS handguns with Samurai Edge textures. This is incorrect, as the Samurai Edge should feature the heavier Brigadier slide. The slides also feature forward serrations in this game, as well as a slight hump where the brigadier's hump is located, only not as pronounced.

During the E3 demo of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Leon is seen holding a Samurai Edge (in place of the Glock 17 he used in the teaser trailer). However, he uses a Desert Eagle in the final version of the game.

Lost Planet 2

When Albert Wesker was initially announced as a bonus character in Lost Planet 2, his Samurai Edge was also announced as a special short range weapon (sharing this weapon slot with shotguns, revolvers and flamethrowers) to go with him. However, the gun was eventually removed from the final game. The Revolvers from the same game appear to be based on Barry's model.
