The Riot Gun' / Assault Shotgun is the 12 gauge Benelli M4 Super 90, which in real life is semi-automatic, but is shown as being pump action in each of its appearances in Resident Evil.
Richard's Assault Shotgun
The Benelli M4 is available to the player in the remake of Resident Evil under the designation of Assault Shotgun, and is only obtainable if the player manages to bring Richard the Serum in time. The gun has a 10 round tube magazine.
The Riot Gun is the second shotgun available to the player in Resident Evil 4. It can be purchased from the Merchant for 32,000 pesetas. Like the basic Shotgun, the Riot Gun's power decreases over longer range. It takes up 16 spaces (8x2) of Leon's inventory.
To start, it has a firepower of 5.0, can fire every 1.53 seconds, takes 3.03 seconds to reload, and has a capacity of 7 shells.
Fully upgraded, it has a firepower of 8.0, can fire every 1.53 seconds, takes 1.50 seconds to reload, and has a capacity of 17 shells. The Riot Gun costs 415,000 pesetas to fully upgrade. Its exclusive upgrade increases its firepower to 10.0. With the exclusive, it is a more powerful gun than the basic Shotgun, but it is far more expensive to upgrade than either the basic Shotgun or the Striker.
The weapon is also available in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, once again as the "Assault Shotgun". It is the second shotgun obtained, and the most powerful and accurate shotgun available(With the drawback of a slow reload).
