These zombies are a new creation that appeared in Tall Oaks and Lanshiang; they are resulted from a series of global bioterror attacks using mutagenic viruses [1] seemingly perpetrated by Neo Umbrella. This mutation occurs when someone inhales the C-Virus in gas form instead of injecting themselves with it, or being bitten by a C-Virus zombie.[2] C-Virus zombies are only encountered by Ada Wong, Leon S. Kennedy and Helena Harper.

Biology

The essence of these creatures is the same as zombies seen created by the t-Virus, in that they are still essentially reanimated corpses with mostly the same effects after the process of turning. An almost immediate discoloration and rotting of the skin occurs, causing it to look grey and dying and in some cases even showing what looks like bruising or skin damage. The mutation also causes alterations in the eyes, which most commonly leads to the irises turning yellow or pale green, often with a bright red coloring around the outer edges of the iris.

It is possible some degree of brain processing for motor functions and overall mobility remains. Although they shamble slowly and deliberately just like their t-Virus counterparts, zombies of this variety are capable of pouncing on prey quickly and suddenly, and have even been seen running briefly.[3] It is apparent they still operate on a base animal instinct of hunting and feeding but are more able-bodied for their task, seen maneuvering obstacles such as climbing fences and even wielding weapons.

Like the t-Virus zombies, these zombies also produce a great deal of stomach acid that can be highly dangerous when making contact with a living creature. Not only are they able to produce this acid, but they are also able to spit it across great distances.[4]

Behavior

A zombie swiping at Leon

This type of zombie appears to be more aggressive than ones previously encountered, snarling and roaring at potential food. Although they will move toward their target slowly, once they get into range they will immediately pounce onto whatever is nearby viciously. Greater mobility than their predecessors gives them the capability to be greater hunters, as they are seen bypassing obstacles that would have stopped t-Virus zombies, such as climbing fences.[5] C-Virus Zombies have the tendency of utilizing weapons and are seen wielding pipes, swords and axes at times. At one point, a zombie is seen lashing out with its hands after being pushed away, seemingly attempting to scratch the target.[6] They also have the ability to spit acid at the player from a distance. Scratching and vomiting are two traits they share with their t-Virus counterparts.

Gameplay

The zombies found in Resident Evil 6 come in a large variety, such as citizens or civilians, BSAA agents or soldiers, and even old corpses found in the Tall Oaks cemetery and underground catacombs. Zombies suffer easily from body damage, making them easy to dispatch with headshots. Although shooting their legs or knees can cause them to fall and lose mobility, they will still be able to dive or crawl towards a target and drag them down. A number of the zombies carry various weapons that they can use. Although their usage of them is rather rudimentary, they should still be considered very dangerous. Under certain circumstances (such as counterattacks or when stunned if the zombie has the weapon embedded in their body), this weapon can be turned against them.

Weapons

Weapon Picture Details
Assault Rifle for Special Tactics Zombie Assault Rifle

The default rifle for BSAA operatives crudely used by some zombies. Zombies that wield this aim poorly and will often simply shoot in arcs.

After the rifle has run out of ammo (3-6 bursts), the zombie will throw it at the player, dealing minor damage. Zombies wielding this weapon can swing it like a club at close range.

Old Axe Zombie Old Axe A makeshift axe found in the hands of a zombie, usually the long-dead and decaying variant. May also be embedded in the body of a Zombie.
Bottle Zombie Bottle A liquor bottle wielded as a weapon by some zombies. When used to kill a player, the zombie will repeatedly smack them across the face with the bottle long after death.
Cleaver Zombie Cleaver A simple butcher's cleaver found in the hands of a zombie.
Dynamite Zombie Dynamite A stick of lit dynamite found held by a zombie. It is possible to stun the Zombie and stick the explosive right in its mouth, leaving it to explode
Dynamite (strapped) DynamiteZombie3 A vest of dynamite strapped to the torso of a zombie. These are extremely dangerous and the dynamite can be set off with a single shot, which also makes them effective as a weapon to surrounding enemies.
Elephant Killer Zombie Magnum A massive and dangerous magnum revolver found by some zombies, particularly Military Soldiers, BSAA Soldiers, and even some Police Officers.
Fire Axe Zombie Axe A bright red emergency fire axe used by some zombies. May also be found embedded in a Zombie
Golf Club Zombie Golf Club A golf club found in the hands of some zombies.
Knife Zombie Knife A sharp, bloodied knife used by zombies to attack their prey. May also be found embedded in some zombies
Lantern Zombie Lantern A lit lantern that is utilized by some zombies as a weapon. If shot, it can cause fire to break out, possibly igniting the zombies.
Stone Zombie Stone A large rock used by some zombies as a weapon, often raised above their head with both hands to attack.
Pipe Zombie Pipe A long metal pipe found in the hand of some zombies and used to attack its prey, may also be found impaled on Zombies. When a player is downed, the zombie can kill them with the pipe by driving the tip repeatedly into their face.
Shovel Zombie Shovel A shovel found mostly in the hands of the decaying and long-deceased zombies and used as a weapon.
Sledgehammer Zombie Sledgehammer A large sledgehammer used by some zombies throughout Tall Oaks to brutally attack their prey.
Kukri Zombie Machete An exotic curved blade found in the hands of some of the zombies of the crypts and cemetery.
2 x 4 Zombie 2 x 4 A long piece of wood used as a weopon by some zombies. The wood easily breaks upon impact or shot at and the Zombie will then throw it at its target.
Flaming 2 x 4 Zombie Flaming 2 x 4 A torch - simply a piece of wood with the end on fire - used as a weapon by some zombies. A player can be ignited when hit with this, though if shot the zombie itself can also catch fire.
Fire Extinguisher Zombie fire Extinguisher A common fire extinguisher in the hands of some zombies. If thrown or shot at, the canister explodes damaging anything in its radius.
Liquid Nitrogen Tank Zombie Liquid Nitrogen Tank A canister of liquid Nitrogen found in the hands of some zombies found in the Laboratory under the Tall Oaks Church. When thrown or shot at, the canister explodes, freezing anything caught in the blast for a couple of seconds.
Crank Zombie Crank A old crank used to operate one of the gate mechanisms within the Tall Oaks Church catacombs. Found in the hands of a specific zombie.

Other Types

Significant variations of the standard zombie exist. The conditions are unknown, whether they are evolutions, different degrees of exposure to the virus, infection method, or having to do with the infectee themselves.

  • Whopper - Massive-sized undead that tower over the average human. Their extreme body mass makes them extremely durable, causing most firearms to do very little, and extremely dangerous.
  • Shrieker  - With mutated lungs, they are able to produce ear-piercing screams. This makes them capable of not only easily stunning prey, but drawing the attention of other undead to possible food.
  • Bloodshot - Extremely mutated with exposed muscle tissue, disfigured sharp teeth. They are significantly faster than normal zombies and can leap great distances to maul their targets.
