Carlos is playable only during the Raccoon General Hospital segment in the main game. He starts his inventory with a Merc's Handgun, Assault Rifle and a F. Aid Box, although the latter is only available in Easy Mode. Carlos can also fight with Nemesis in his second form in the Clock Tower; however, he can't completely defeat it, only knock it out. If the player does knock out Nemesis, when Jill faces the monster again, it will lack around 40% of its heath. The player's decision to face Nemesis (or escape from him) will also affect Carlos’ dialogue with Jill in the cutscene in the chapel.
The Mercenaries - Operation: Mad Jackal[]
Carlos is also playable in the minigame The Mercenaries - Operation: Mad Jackal. The difficulty in his scenario is considered medium. He has the following inventory:
Carlos, along with Jill Valentine, is one of the playable characters in the "Raccoon's Destruction" scenario. His handgun is the "Handgun SG" and on the select equipment screen, the Submachine Gun HP will be selected by default for Carlos. His melee attack involves him using his machine gun to attack three times in a row to knock the zombie away.
Resident Evil 3 (2020)[]
Carlos returns as a playable character in the remake of the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis game. Unlike the original, this time he is playable in two segments: during the exploration of Raccoon Police Station, and in the quest for the vaccine in Spencer Memorial Hospital. His assignments are almost the same as the original game; however, Carlos is more resistant to damage than Jill and never has to confront Nemesis. As a tradeoff, he is slower and less evasive than she is, which can be harmful as some of the enemies that Carlos encounters are more agile than him, like the Lickers and Hunters β. He starts his inventory with a G18 Handgun, CQBR Assault Rifle, Combat Knife, and bullets. The assault rifle is the only weapon in his inventory that can be upgraded by the player. Also unlike the original game, Carlos has only one unlockable alternate outfit:
