Claire Redfield is a current member of the human rights organization, TerraSave. She is the younger sister of BSAA operative and former S.T.A.R.S. member Chris Redfield. Since her survival in the Raccoon City incident in 1998, Claire would become involved or end up in the midst of several Biohazard outbreaks around the world, prompting her, as well as Chris, to devote her career to combating the threat of Bio Organic Weapons.

Biography
Biography
Claire is a survivor of the Raccoon City Incident, which took place in September 1998 after she traveled to the city in search of her brother. After escaping the city with the help of Leon S. Kennedy, Claire ventured to Europe to continue her search for Chris. In December, she was captured by Umbrella after infiltrating their Paris Laboratory, and transported to the Umbrella owned Rockfort Island and imprisoned. When Rockfort Island was attacked by a mysterious Special Forces group, Claire tried to escape with fellow prisoner, Steve Burnside, leading to both of their involvements in the Antarctic outbreak. Her brother soon learned of her situation and rescued her. In 2005, Claire confronted the t-Virus again when she arrived at Harvardville Airport to meet some friends. While surviving in the airport, she was reunited with Leon, now a U.S. Government agent, who had been sent to deal with the outbreak.

Claire grew up with her older brother Chris after their parents died; with this event, the two developed a very close bond. When Chris joined the U.S. Air Force, she was introduced to his new friend, Barry Burton, and he became a close family friend. After high school, Claire attended university, where she developed her interest in motorcycle customisation, owning two motorcycles herself. Claire also specialized in lockpicking, becoming an expert with skill. After Chris moved to Raccoon City with Burton to serve in Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.), Claire would occasionally visit her brother to learn hand-to-hand combat and firearms training. He also gave Claire a golden lighter and his S.T.A.R.S. knife.
Claire grew up with her older brother Chris. Eventually, Chris skipped college and joined the US Air Force, while Claire became a student at a university, and took an interest in motorcycles. Claire has been trained in military combat techniques by Chris, and has learned how to handle herself in hand-to-hand combat, as well as being able to wield a multitude of weapons including combat knives and firearms.

In August 1998, Chris left for Europe to investigate Umbrella. After weeks of not hearing from her brother, Claire left her college in late September for Raccoon City to find out where he was. She stopped at a diner in the northern parts of the city, having not noticed the violence in the city, and was confronted by the murderous chef. Upon leaving she was saved by Leon S. Kennedy, who decided they drive to the police station for safety. While approaching the station, they were separated by a fiery accident, and fought their way out to it. Leon and Claire soon discovered the station had collapsed due to the outbreak of the t-Virus, being that the only unzombified police officers were the injured Lt. Marvin Branagh, Elliot Edward, and Police Chief Brian Irons.

  +
It is uncertain if Claire met anyone in the station, but she met Lieutenant Branagh, who saved her after that the zombies chased the college student through the shutter door of the East Hallway. Marvin later gave Claire a combat knife and warned her not to hesitate shooting zombies, regardless of being in uniform or not, before also becoming a Zombie after Claire returns to the Main Hall after leaving the Parking Garage. Claire also found Sherry Birkin, the daughter of William and Annette Birkin. They later crossed paths with a psychopathic Chief Irons, who was killed either by William himself or a G-embryo.

  +
As the two made their way into the sewers, Sherry was separated and was parasitised by a G-embryo. After a meeting with Annette, Claire received instructions on how to provide a treatment to her condition, and went with her to the Birkins' underground laboratory complex.
Claire arrived to Raccoon City in search of her brother, but found something much worse. After she encounters Leon at the diner, Claire and Leon hatch a plan to get out of Raccoon City as soon as they can. After being separated by a zombified trucker, Claire and Leon headed towards the police station from opposite directions, where they hoped to rendezvous. Claire managed to get into the Raccoon City Police Department.

  +
Fighting mutants throughout the lab, Claire obtained a vaccine to stop Sherry from mutating into "G". When the facility's self-destruct system was activated, Claire and Sherry escaped on a train with Leon. "G" survived the final battle with Claire and attacked the train during the ride. Working together, the three were able to bring the train to a halt and escape the cabin as it was engulfed in flames. Leon promised to take care of Sherry and urged Claire to continue her search for Chris, with Claire accepting.
Claire explores the deserted police station and eventually finds Chris' Diary in the S.T.A.R.S. office, which she reads and finds out that Chris is no longer in Raccoon City, as he went to investigate Umbrella Headquarters in Europe, and asks Claire to forgive him for not informing her as to where he was going. Claire eventually runs into the corrupt Chief Brian Irons, who then attempts to kill her, and Sherry Birkin, the daughter of two important Umbrella researchers, William Birkin and Annette Birkin. Claire encountered Annette on at least one occasion, during which she accused Claire of being a spy for Umbrella.

Rockfort Island Incident (1998)
As Sherry and Claire looked for a way out of the city, they were stalked by the mutated William Birkin. Whilst inside the sewers, Sherry and Claire were separated, during which time Sherry was found by William and infected with the G-virus. Upon reuniting, Claire attempted to find a cure for Sherry within Umbrella's underground labs. While in the laboratory, Claire ran into Annette one more time, before William arrives and fatally wounds his former wife.

Before dying, Annette gave Claire the instructions for creating the G-virus antidote. Claire contacts Leon to take Sherry to an escape train before the lab self-destruct sequence activated. She manages to create the antidote, and when finished, attempts to flee. However, she was thwarted once again by Birkin, forcing her to fight the monster, Claire then rushed to the train, joined Leon, and successfully administered the vaccine to Sherry. Unfortunately, Birkin, now a gigantic amorphous blob, attacked the train, thus triggering another self-destruct sequence. Claire, Leon, and Sherry escaped moments before the train exploded, destroying William once and for all. Not long after their escape, Leon urged her to leave them and go search for her brother, but goes to the neighboring town first to wash off the nightmares she experienced.

  +
Following on from her experiences in Raccoon City, Claire went out in search for her brother. Believing him to be at Umbrella Europe's Paris Laboratory, she infiltrated it in December and was captured by the facility's security forces. Taken to Rockfort Island by Rodrigo Juan Raval, Claire's arrival coincided with a sabotage operation conducted by HCF, a paramilitary group under the command of Albert Wesker. The saboteurs succeeded in releasing the t-Virus and B.O.W.s across the island, and Umbrella's local paramilitary forces were wiped out. Feeling sorry for her, Raval released Claire from her cell, though believed she would eventually die anyway.

Rockfort Island Incident
  +
On the surface she met Steve Burnside, a seventeen year old who was interned following his father's betrayal of Umbrella for selling company secrets on the black market. The two searched for an airport to escape the island, but were repeatedly hampered by Alfred Ashford, 7th Earl Ashford, the island's commander, who believed Redfield to be linked to the saboteurs. Before they found a plane, Claire was able to get in contact with Leon via a computer; Leon, who had gained employment within the U.S. government's covert Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team, got in contact with Chris and sent him her location.

  +
Escaping to the Antarctic, Claire and Steve discovered Umbrella's Antarctic Base had fallen to a t-Virus outbreak brought there by the retreating Rockfort personnel. During their search of the facility, they found it was located several miles from an Australian polar observation base, and made plans to take control of a truck to drive there. The two ran into Alfred, who had followed them, but in their fight with him he was shot and fell off a ledge, where he was able to awaken his sister, Alexia, who had acclimated to mutation from t-Veronica infection through cryogenic stasis. After an encounter with the Nosferatu, Claire and Steve found the truck and drove off. They were soon after set upon by plant-like tentacles, which knocked the truck over, and the two were dragged back to the base as Alexia's prisoners.
Three months after her escape from Raccoon City, Claire infiltrated Umbrella's Paris facility in search of her lost brother, Chris. At some point in her investigation, her presence was detected, and a security team was dispatched along with a military chopper to eliminate her. After evading the security force, and having narrowly evaded helicopter gunfire, she was ambushed by the team's remainder, and captured by Rodrigo Juan Raval. She was then taken to Rockfort Island to be imprisoned. Upon her arrival, she is knocked unconscious. She later awakens to the sound of explosions and is freed by a wounded Rodrigo. Due to her strong will to survive and to find her brother, she was able to find her way through the island once it had been attacked by an unknown enemy. Another viral outbreak happened on the island. During her attempt to escape, Claire ran into Steve Burnside, another prisoner on the island, and the two eventually joined forces. Soon, after finding out that Umbrella was spying on her brother, she contacted Leon to tell him and to come get them. During this time, Claire also encountered Alfred Ashford, who insisted that Claire had led enemy forces to the base, and who then released multiple B.O.W.'s to stop her. Claire also had a run-in with her brother's old rival, Albert Wesker, who decided to leave her as bait to get Chris to arrive at the island. As all of this happened, Claire soon found out about Alexia Ashford, and had a supposed run-in with her, only to be saved by Steve, who then shot "Alexia", revealing that it was none other than Alfred, calling him a "cross-dressing freak". As the two found a cargo plane to escape the island, Alfred then sent out a Tyrant (T-103 Model) (model number 078) to deal with the two survivors, and also had the plane's autopilot redirected, sending the two survivors directly to Antarctica. Upon arriving at the base, Claire and Steve found that the entire facility had been infected by the t-Virus. They managed to locate an Australian research base nearby. After having one last showdown with Alfred, she and Steve used a snowmobile to escape the Australian base, but were forced to deal with Nosferatu before leaving. Things seemed fine as the two headed for the base, until a dying Alfred managed to awaken the real hibernating Alexia from stasis, who then held them captive.

  +

When Chris had finally arrived at the Antarctic facility, he managed to rescue Claire, but was separated from her once again by Alexia. To make matters worse, Claire soon found Steve, who had been infected with the T-Veronica virus, thus causing him to mutate. Claire was forced to escape from the monster, only to be nearly killed by a giant tentacle. Steve suddenly came to his senses, and freed Claire, only to be mortally wounded in the process. As he reverted to his human form, he confessed his love to Claire, and died by her side.

  +
Claire awoke to find Chris, who had tracked her to Antarctica from Rockfort Island. Faced with the new threat of Alexia, and the arrival of Wesker, Claire hurried to find Steve, who had been taken for t-Veronica research. Steve mutated into a large creature after she found him, but his refusal to kill her led to his death at the hands of Alexia's pods. When her brother activated the facility's self-destruct system, she was taken captive by Wesker as a hostage after his men had confiscated Steve's corpse for their own testing. Her freedom was bought when her brother led him into a fight, giving her time to prepare a Harrier jet for take-off. Chris arrived mere seconds ahead of the explosion, but they were able to escape unharmed.

  +
Following the incident, Claire began visiting Sherry during her house arrest while in U.S. government custody with unrestricted visitation rights permitted by her legal guardian Derek C. Simmons, even though Birkin's existence was top secret. However, Redfield distrusted Simmons believing him to be scheming for nefarious purposes, which made her send a letter to Sherry to warn her about him, yet, she never received it. In general, Redfield had significant influence on Birkin's personality as she inherited her tolerance and maternal nature with a strong heart and beliefs.
Though emotionally distraught from what happened to Steve, Claire managed to give Chris instructions for initializing a self-destruct sequence, before eventually reuniting with him. After Chris killed the mutated form of Alexia once and for all, he attempted to escape with Claire, only to be interrupted by Wesker.

Harvardville Incident (2005)
Once their confrontation was over, Chris and Claire evacuated in a harrier, determined to bring Umbrella down, once and for all.

  +
In the years following the incident at the Antarctic Base, Claire became associated with TerraSave, an NGO organisation which offered aid to victims of bioterrorism, which became a global threat following the collapse of Umbrella. In 2005, TerraSave set its eyes on WP Corporation, an American pharmaceutical company that reached headlines following its connection to a t-Virus outbreak in India. The incident was in fact a bioterrorist attack, which the WP Corporation provided a t-Vaccine to combat. The terror attack was covered up, but footage of the WP Corporation's treatment was leaked, giving the inaccurate perception they were performing inhuman human testing.

  +

Harvardville Incident
  +
Redfield traveled to Harvardville, the company's home town, as part of an organised protest aimed at Senator Ron Davis, a Harvardville native who was known to invest heavily in the company. Redfield and another protester were arrested by airport security, which coincided with a coordinated terrorist attack infecting people within the airport as well as on an inbound plane. The resulting spread of t-Virus led to the airport being placed under lockdown by the 75th Ranger Regiment, and a plane crash destroying much of the airport terminal. Redfield and several other survivors, including Senator Davis and Rani Chawla, a young child in the care of TerraSave, took shelter within a VIP lounge and made phone calls to the outside world. Later that night, Kennedy and two members of SRT entered the airport via the roof in a mission to rescue the group ahead of a Ranger assault on the terminal. Redfield provided the name of a suspect behind the attack, Dr. Curtis Miller, whom she had briefly seen during the initial Zombie attack. Dr. Miller had previously worked for the WP Corporation and TerraSave, but had been ousted from both groups.

  +
After being let outside, Redfield met Dr. Frederic Downing, a senior researcher for the WP Corporation, who revealed to her the cover-up in India. When a WP Corporation truck carrying vaccine samples was sabotaged, Redfield traveled with Dr. Downing as a guest to the local laboratory complex while he had reserve vaccine samples prepared. In the laboratory, Redfield learned from Dr. Downing they had acquired samples of the G-Virus on the black market and, from a phone call between Downing and Senator Davis, came to the conclusion Davis was somehow involved in the terrorist attacks. Downing left her alone to check out a disturbance downstairs, which was revealed to be Dr. Miller attacking the complex; Downing telephoned her to warn of the attack, but was cut off. After infecting himself with the G-Virus, Dr. Miller fought a Ranger squad sent in to capture him. The ensuing fight with them and Kennedy destroyed much of the complex, but Redfield escaped with a minor injury.
After Chris rescued Claire, the Redfield siblings parted ways. Chris joined the BSAA, while Claire returned to Sherry's side to offer emotional support during the daily tests and experiments conducted against her. Eventually, she joined a non-governmental human rights organization called TerraSave. Seven years after the Raccoon City incident and the Rockfort Island incident, Claire arrives at Harvardville Airport to meet a friend who was part of TerraSave as well. Claire's friend, Aunt Chawla, asks Claire to watch over her niece, Rani Chawla, as Aunt wants to bring the "limo" around front. Claire and Rani introduce themselves and wait for Aunt to come back. As Claire and Rani are waiting, they see senator Ron Davis comes on the airport TV and passes a comment which Claire and Frederic Downing find rather pathetic.

  +

Frederic introduced himself and then leaves. Ron, in disguise, and his bodyguards try to leave the airport until Rani spots him out as "The bad guy we saw on T.V!". As Ron pushed past the reporters, he spotted a man standing around acting like a zombie. Claire takes off the man's mask and he is arrested by the police. The Police Chief asked if Claire was involved with the protest and she responded cautiously, knowing the cop would arrest her too. The cop then thought he spotted another protester, so he went to stop him. It turned out that it was a real zombie, which attacked and killed the cop instantly. Moments later, Ron's bodyguards were killed as well.

  +
In the minutes immediately following the fight, Redfield discovered all footage had been recorded and streamed to a third party. Piecing together distortions with Downing's phone call, Redfield and Kennedy realised Downing orchestrated the attack, and had faked his death in Miller's attack to escape with G-Virus and t-Vaccine samples for a black market deal with a foreign general Kennedy's agency had already arrested. Downing himself was revealed to have been an Umbrella researcher, who had stolen the G-Virus from NEST, and had changed his name and gained employment within the WP Corporation. To prosper from bioterrorism, Downing masterminded the attacks in India so proof of the vaccine's effectiveness could be determined, and radicalized Dr. Miller to continue the work in the United States to hide his own involvement. Thanks to the work of Redfield and Kennedy, the G-Virus was denied to the Bajiri military.

Investigation into Penamstan and The Mad Dogs (2006)
The airport was in chaos, and Claire went to go get Rani, who was still in the rest area. She spotted her and ran in her direction until she ran into Curtis Miller, who seemed rather suspicious. Claire focused her attention on Rani and was stopped once again when the senator grabbed her arm and begged for help. Moments later, a plane crashed through the terminal, and Claire threw herself and the senator to the ground to avoid being hit. The airplane door opened, and zombies started coming out from it, bringing Claire back to her nightmares in Raccoon City.

in 2006, six years later, the Penamstan Civil War has come to an end with the insurgents laying down their arms. Much of the country is in ruins, and refugees are reliant on the UN and TerraSave to provide food and shelter. Redfield ventures into the city to inspect one of the camps and meets a young boy, paraplegic and mute. He provides Claire with a drawing of what he saw in 2000 – masses of people eating one another. She is disturbed by the image, and recognizes it as evidence of the use of t-Virus or other similar bioweapons.

After the attack at the white house, Claire arrives for her scheduled appointment with Press Secretary Spacer, only to be told that he is on the leave, not knowing that he was killed in the attack. She then spots Leon, whom she confides in about her discovery about a biohazard in Penamstan. Leon leaves telling her not to do anything stupid only for Claire to retaliate that the suit doesn't work on him.

Claire, Rani, Ron and others took refuge in the VIP lounge of the airport. Claire sent out a 911 call for rescue, which was received by S.R.T. member Angela Miller. After calling 911 and waiting for help, a sudden scream followed by gunfire gave Claire the knowledge of other survivors. Equipped, ironically, with an umbrella, Claire made her way into the hallways to find the scream. She eventually came into contact with her old friend, Leon S. Kennedy, and S.R.T. members Angela Miller and Greg Glenn. The group headed back to the lounge and tried to think of an escape route. Leon suggested they head through the lobby, seeming as if it is the widest area. Ron disagrees until Claire agrees with Leon, saying that the zombies are slow and the group can get around them.

Returning to her motel in Washington, D.C., she takes it upon herself to investigate what had happened in Penamstan. Reviewing news footage and newspaper clippings, she pieces the information together on a wall. Among this information is the controversy surrounding the U.S. intervention, such as allegations of it being orchestrated simply to intimidate the Chinese. Moving on, she begins looking at the men who served, only to find that out of the seven "Mad Dogs" who returned to their barracks in Texas five have committed suicide.

  +
She then continues her investigation into the possible use of bioweapons in the Penamstan Civil War, she heads out to ask one of the remaining veterans some questions, only to find out that he had also committed suicide. Finding a suicide note left behind by the soldier, she calls the New York City Police Department and draws the conclusion that they have all been infected. Claire arrives at the White House once more to ask Defense Secretary Wilson of his involvement in the use of bioweapons but is ignored. When she returns to the motel, she is ambushed by Secret Service agents and is tazed and kidnapped.
Ron lets out his frustration on Claire until Leon informed the senator that she was one of the survivors of the Raccoon City incident, giving the reasons why she knew what to do with the outbreak. The group ran through the lobby with Leon, Angela, and Greg killing the surrounding zombies. As the group reached the end of the lobby, Greg is bitten, and tells the group to go on without him. They sheltered themselves up on a large broken piece of debris caused from the plane. The zombies start to surround the group, and zombies from the plane managed to get the door down and attack the group. Ron decides to leave without them and knocks Rani off the debris.

Claire wakes up strapped to a chair, trapped under a secret research facility located beneath Andrews Air Force Base, where they were conducting research into creating super-soldiers engineered from the virus. Interrogated by Wilson, he tries to bribe her silence with a charitable donation to TerraSave's mission in Penamstan but she rejects. He offers the dead soldier's PTSD as a reason why the authorities wouldn't bother investigating him and that he could simply have her killed otherwise. Believing himself to have won regardless, Wilson reveals his true plan to her: by declaring China a rogue state it would be in Penamstan's best interests for continued American presence. To protect it from China, the Penamstan military would be provided with bioweapons in the form of hundreds of super-soldiers, each effectively enslaved by their dependence on regular doses of an antiretroviral drug only he can provide and which Penamstan will have to make constant orders for, making him vastly wealthy in the process. Claire calls out the insanity of his plan. Jason arrives at facility on an upper level, and is immediately recognised by Claire as the last member of the Mad Dogs.
Claire hears a scream and notices Rani is being attacked by zombies. Claire, without a weapon, jumps down to protect Rani. Leon goes to help Claire until he is pinned by a zombie. He throws Claire his gun and she kills all of the attacking zombies in an instant. Claire and Rani then rejoin the rest of the group, and make it out of the airport alive. As Rani reunites with Aunt, Claire meets back up with the Senator and Frederic Downing, the man she saw earlier in the airport. As Frederic talks about a vaccination, Claire is convinced that the current outbreak is TerraSave's fault. Leon comforts Claire and tells her that it isn't her fault. At that time, the vaccine trucks blow up, which makes Leon, Claire and Angela investigate. They meet up with Ron and Frederic and Claire tells them that she thinks Curtis Miller might be the terrorist.

After Jason mutates, The facility's supercomputer determines a biohazard has taken place, and begins dumping the unconscious soldiers into a vat of highly corrosive acids and also putting Claire at risk, which has reached her floor, and has to climb up for her safety. When Leon spots her, he chooses to save Claire rather than continue pursuing Jason. Using the facility to her advantage, she takes control of the facility's cranes, and attempts to drop Jason into the acid below. Her attempts failed, however, as Jason tossed a gantry to the control room and almost crushed her. Leon manages to kill Jason and the two make it out of the facility.

  +
Late in the afternoon, Claire meets Leon outside the White House. Claire asks Leon to hand over the chip so she can deliver it to the press. However, Leon refuses because of what Jason said about his willingness to spread terror in people. Claire is disappointed in his decision, commenting that the "outfit" doesn't suit him and leaves.
Eventually Claire heads to WilPharma with Frederic. After hearing a conversation between Frederic and Ron, she learned that the G-virus was being researched there, just as Frederic had to go fix the server. As she called Leon, a time bomb was set off, causing a shard of glass to embed itself within her leg, severely affecting her mobility. Leon found Claire, helped her get to an elevator which would lead to her escape and hands her his backup gun. Instead of leaving, Claire found the control room and tried to help Leon and Angela escape from Curtis, who had mutated due to a self-injection of the G-virus.

Death of Albert Wesker and Counter-Bioterrorism Expansion (2009-2010)
Once Curtis was disposed of, the three survivors meet up outside along with Ron. Claire finds out that Frederic was behind the whole incident at the airport. Leon, Claire and Angela went to arrest Frederic Downing, who had a sample of the G-Virus with him. Angela arrests Frederic, and the cops come and take over the rest of the situation. The next day, Leon and Claire met up with Angela. They told Angela about Frederic's plans and that her brother Curtis was innocent. With the threat of any further outbreaks temporarily subdued, Leon and Claire hope to meet again under more normal circumstances. Leon rushes off to his next mission in a helicopter whilst Claire decides to leave with Rani and Aunt in their vehicle.

In 2009, Chris and Sheva Alomar killed Albert Wesker and the conglomerate TRICELL collapsed due to its illegal involvement in B.O.W. Due to Sherry Birkin's protection being no longer necessary, she became a U.S. government agent in exchange for freedom despite Claire's protests. Despite this, both women always spent time together when their busy schedules permitted it.

In 2011, Redfield and a number of other TerraSave members were captured in a raid on their headquarters by a paramilitary organisation led by Alex Wesker. Having entered a deal with TerraSave member and Claire's superior Neil Fisher, the members were taken to the unknown Sein Island, and infected with T-Phobos Virus for Wesker's personal research in copying her consciousness into a new host. In exchange, Fisher was to be provided with a sample of the Uroboros Virus, so that a vaccine may be produced, in an arrangement Fisher believed to be for the greater good.

Sometime in 2011, Claire attended a party at TerraSave headquarters alongside new hire, Moira Burton, daughter of Barry Burton. Suddenly a military group attacked the party and abducted Claire and her co-workers and brought them to an abandoned prison facility in an island. When Claire come to, she found herself in a prison cell with a cuff monitor attached to her arm. The cell door housing her opened, and Claire quickly found Moira. Together they explored the Island looking for answers, while simultaneously fending off attacks from the horrific, mutated inhabitants lurking in the darkness of the facility. At the same time, the woman in charge of the facility, calling herself the Overseer, watched and communicated with them through the speakers on their cuffs, reciting the works of Franz Kafka and directing them through the island.

After escaping in the abandoned prison facility, she and Moira go to the radio tower to call for help. Arriving at the radio tower, Claire tested the signal from the radio which is inactive as she let Moira stay inside to fix the antenna from the radio tower. While Moira was desperately calling on the radio while she is inside the radio tower, Claire overseers the whole surroundings while she was at the top of the radio tower, realizing that they ended up in an isolated island. At some point in their entrapment, the two comes across a young girl named Natalia Korda, who was an attendant in the TerraSave party.

  +
Redfield, Moira Burton and Gina Foley found themselves trapped within a decaying Brezknev-era prison that had been modified under Wesker's orders to serve as a torture chamber, and were set upon by the infected failed experiments before them, dubbed Afflicted; once previous inhabitants of Sein Island. Though Foley was killed, Redfield and Burton were able to escape into the woods, where they found Fisher, Pedro Fernandez and Gabriel Chavez at an abandoned fishing village. Due to the nature of the T-Phobos Virus, Fernandez, who was repeatedly harassed by Afflicted, became afraid enough for the virus to begin mutating him, and he became a dangerous adversary for the others. Redfield, Fisher and Burton were separated from Chavez, who was hard at work repairing a helicopter, with Fisher also splitting up as they got into the town to help Wesker, who in return had promised him the Uroboros sample. While exploring the decaying town ruins, Redfield and Burton found a young girl, Natalia Korda, who had also been abducted in the TerraSave attack. Korda did not react to the monsters as the others did, proving that she was not susceptible to fear as most other humans were. This was the trait that Wesker had searched for in her ideal host and subsequently, while Chavez was seen struggling with a malfunctioning helicopter above them and crashing it into a building, Korda was captured by Fisher during the commotion on Wesker's orders.

She and Moira are now heading to Wossek after she makes a desperate call on the radio tower. By the time they arrived at Wossek, Claire manages to disarm Gabriel Chavez who thinks of them are Afflicted and he and Pedro Fernandez were relieved to see them alive. He explains to Claire that they he, Pedro, Neil Fisher and Edward Thompson are awaken at the forest and Edward ends up being killed. He and Pedro are later separated with Neil during their pursuit. Claire is later called by the Overseer about the wall which each of them is infected with her special virus which angers Gabriel as he let her come with him outside the abandoned town. At the outskirts of the abandoned town, they found an abandoned helicopter and it requires a new battery and a fuel which Gabriel requests Claire and Moira to find it.

On their own, Redfield and Burton journeyed into an abandoned food processing plant, where they were led into a trap by Wesker, who had set up a deliberate ploy to keep them occupied for a while. Redfield and Burton were supposed to be killed at the end of the ploy, but the two were fast enough to escape the trap that was set for them and escaped into a waterway behind the factory which led directly to Wesker's facility. As they were now believed dead, they were able to enter Wesker's main facility undetected, a single tower and enormous, brutalist landmark that could be seen from most places on the island. At the base of the building, they learn the truth of Fisher's dealings with Wesker, and that he had been betrayed and infected with Uroboros. He is seen mutated into a powerful monster and had to be killed by Burton. Progressing to the upper spine of the tower, the two witnessed Wesker shoot herself, seeing Korda as her successor and herself no longer necessary in her own plans. With Wesker apparently dead, however, the building began to self-destruct. Redfield was able to jump out of an opening in the wall and survived the plunge into the sea, though Burton was left behind.

After giving the battery and fuel to Gabriel, they heard the siren which Claire realizes that they were lured by the Overseer as she and Moira quickly returns to the bar and stop the siren. Claire manages to defeat the Afflicted and saves Pedro, Pedro becomes weaken and becomes hostile due to his bracelet changed to glowing red and being too scared, he chokes at her while he started to mutate and was saved by Moira by tackling the mutated Pedro to the ground and Pedro is completely mutated into an Afflicted while wielding his drill which forces them to fight along with other Afflicted. When they are unable to stop them, they were saved by Neil. Claire also explains to Moira that Neil is her boss as he introduces himself to her who recognizes Moira as Barry's daughter as the latter tells him that don't mentioned her father. The trio then sees the tower near the abandoned town and they decide to get inside the tower and Neil tells them that Afflicted in this town are residents. When Claire tries to let Neil to climb up, the Afflicted manages to break the door as Neil tells them to go to the tower as he gives chase the Afflicted.

Redfield was found floating in the ocean and rushed to a hospital for examination. When visited by Barry Burton, now a BSAA agent, she gave him and the BSAA enough information to plan out a mission, though it took another six months to confirm the location of the island. Redfield returned to the island in a BSAA helicopter the morning after Burton's one-man investigation which resulted in the rescue of Moira Burton and Natalia Korda. The group were attacked by a heavily mutated Wesker, who in addition to having been exposed to T-Phobos on her suicide attempt, had also injected herself with Uroboros, but following her death all four were able to escape ahead of the BSAA sterilisation operation.

In 2013, two years after the incident, Claire is seen driving an SUV down a road, going to Burton's residence with a gift. She then receives a call from a BSAA member stating that Chris is in China. Claire, in turn, asks them to tell Piers Nivans to take care of her brother before hanging up.
On their way, they found Natalia who continues to run away as Claire stops her from running. Claire asks her where she's going, and Moira talks to her showing her soft spot for Natalia, showing her bracelet to her stating that they're sisters. The trio finally made it outside the tower, where Gabriel is piloting the helicopter stating that he's going to leave the island, only to be trapped by the Overseer, who taunts him that he is cheating as the controls of the helicopter are broken into pieces. Claire, Moira and Natalia witness Gabriel's death as his helicopter crashed into the abandoned building in explosion after he looked at his bracelet changed color to glowing red while stabbing himself his left wrist with his knife to avoid being mutated. Moira notices that Natalia has been kidnapped after they witnesses Gabriel's death and Claire decides to head for the tower to find her.

When they are unable to find Natalia, Claire decides to find Neil instead as the duo are called by the Overseer who greets them in Kierling and she saw Neil's ID hanging on the statue. After avoiding several traps and gets two half livers in the abandoned factory and the butchery she puts two half livers on the statue and the duo realizes it was a trap made by her. The duo later enters at the abandoned wine factory which is also a trap made up by the Overseer as she and Moira manages to escape as they saw the place is about to collapse in explosion as the duo jumps into the waterway to avoid from being exploded. As they make it to the tower, Claire found Neil's guest book which she discovers their names are in the guest lists, Claire now finds out that Neil is the true perpetrator behind the assault on TerraSave HQ, and that he sold his friends to the Overseer. Suddenly, the duo saw Neil is in the camera after he isolates other TerraSave members. He met up by Alex Wesker from behind who later betrays him by injecting him with Uroboros virus calling him a lapdog. Alex also reveals Neil's true motive as Morgan Lansdale's puppet during the Terragrigia Panic seven years ago. Claire becomes deeply emotional due to her boss' treachery, and the duo decides to go for the upper levels. She later confronted Neil, who is now injected with Uroborus virus, as he tells her to get away. Neil asks forgiveness to Morgan for failing to revive the FBC as he mutates into a large tyrant-like B.O.W. Claire manages to defeat the mutated Neil temporarily, but Neil revives and uses his tentacles to stop Claire and Moira, who are heading to the elevator. Claire forcibly slashes with her knife several times to save Moira as Neil takes with them to the ground. When Claire tries to help Moira on her feet, she was later pinned down by Neil in his mutated state as she drops her handgun. She was later saved by Moira after the latter overcomes her fear of firearms much to her relief as the duo continues to be watched by Alex.

In 2014, Claire Redfield and TerraSave were dispatched to Sonido de Tortuga Island to investigate after reports of unusual possible B.O.W.-related activity. While in the city of Conejo on the neighboring Zanahoria Island, she uncovers a heavily mutated fish, and proceeds to photograph it with her phone before sending it over to her partner, Inéz Diaco. However, shortly after this is done, the fish suddenly comes alive, forcing Claire to stab it with her combat knife. Further investigation lead Claire to historical documents in the Conejo city library, which revealed that Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer had purchased a former U.S. military base on the island in the late 1990s. Unable to get in touch with Inéz, Claire immediately contacted Chris and the BSAA for support. While Chris was unable to arrive due to being on another mission in the Mojave, he dispatched a team of South American BSAA agents lead by Parker Luciani to rescue Inéz.

The duo now reaches the top of the tower and they arrived at the Alex's office where they saw two monitors where she watches them. Claire realized that she watches them in every move and the duo continues to get to the top of the tower as they finally confronted Alex who states about to surpass both Oswell E. Spencer and Albert as she gunpoints on the duo until she shoots herself in the head. In Alex's suicidal death, she manages to activate the self destruct sequence which forces the duo to escape. By the time of their escape, Moira manages to save Claire from a pile of collapsed debris. Claire tells her that she'll be back to save her as she saw the edge of the tower. With no other choice, Claire jumps down into the edge of the tower and lands on the sea below until the tower of the island exploded.

Upon arriving on the island, Claire and Parker met with Takeru Tominaga, Mayu, Laura Bierce and Zǐlì, survivors of the zombie attack on the Idol Survival TV show staff, as well as close friend Marilou Mabou. Faced with a pincer attack by two new B.O.W.s, Schraube Damon and Morio, Claire took Takeru and the others to a designated "safe spot" on the island via Parker's intel. This spot, a seemingly abandoned facility, gave way to the remnants of one of the first research facilities established by Alex Wesker following on Spencer's initial research into immortality. Chaos soon began to escalate when, while investigating, Claire witnessed Inéz die at the hands of a Hunter before meeting with one of Alex's closest associates: Dirk Miller, the creator of the island's Kodoku Project for B.O.W. development.

  +
While Claire hurried to apprehend Miller, she was intercepted by Zǐlì, who revealed herself to be a double agent for Shén Yà Pharmaceutical, using Miller to obtain the final virus developed via the Kodoku project, Zǐlì proceeded to disarm and brutally assault Claire, leaving her unconscious before planning to torture her.
Claire later awakens in the stretcher after being rescued by Barry and rushed into the hospital. Barry asks her what happened to Moira, Claire sadly apologizes about what happened to Moira as she was immediately taken inside the intensive care unit for treatment. Barry then sets out to look for Moira. {{Quote

Six months later after recovering at the hospital, Claire finally cuts her long auburn hair and returns to the island by riding into the chopper. She arrives in time to save Barry, Moira and Natalia by shooting the mutated Alex in her vulnerable spot with a sniper rifle. Claire then tries to apologize for taking so long to save Moira, but Moira quickly interrupts and tells her to "shut up". Noticing that Alex is still alive, she takes aim to shoot her once more before Barry states that he would take "care of [her]". As Barry continues to fight Alex, Claire supports him from the chopper with the sniper. Claire manages to finally finish her off by shooting her with an RPG-7. After the fight, she asks Barry what he's going to do and Barry replies that he's going to go back to being a father as their chopper continues to set off while other choppers are seen heading off to the island to "clean up the mess".

After Zǐlì's plans were thwarted by the zombified Laura hours later, Claire awoke and escorted the survivors back to the surface as Zǐlì mutated using the new virus. She was briefly apprehended by Shén Yà mercenaries before using the ensuing panic of Zǐlì's monstrous new form to escape to the attack team's boat and procure weapons. Despite being seriously wounded, Claire finally was able to incapacitate Zǐlì via a rocket launcher strike with the help of Takeru and Morio (who was acting on his human memories of being Marilou's older brother). She was evacuated from the island on a BSAA helicopter with Parker and Marilou, and after saying goodbye to Tominaga and Mayu, eliminated Zǐlì.

She investigates the scene to discover an abnormal bite wound on its carcass and is puzzled due to no creatures big enough that matched with the bite mark and lived within the area. Before leaving, Claire takes samples from the carcass and delivers them to B.S.A.A advisor Rebecca Chambers for further analysis. At the laboratory, Claire meets Jill Valentine, Chambers and her brother Chris who is in the midst of investigating into a series of mysterious infections and murder cases happening around San Francisco and briefs all of them about her discovery which she discovers that the chipped Orca had been swimming around Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, the same as several other whales which have disappeared recently in the vicinity of Alcatraz Island. Similarly, the Orca is infected with the same strain of t-Virus found in the human corpses, confirming a link to the cases around San Francisco. Discovering their next lead, Claire accompanies her brother and Jill on investigation to the prison site.

In the end of Revelations 2 during her contact with Barry, she also shows her deep concern towards her brother Chris after being informed that he is in China. She then tells him to let Piers take care of him, her concern for her older brother still coming through. The three blend themselves in as tourists visiting the prison site where she intends to break off from the main group and investigate the shorelines, unbeknownst to the trio who are being monitored by the mastermind behind the San Francisco Serial Murders. The tourists are soon infected with the virus with little to no warning much to their confusion as Claire attempts to isolate the survivors from the infected but fails, leaving the three of them as the only survivors with Jill separated from the siblings after her fail attempt of saving the guard who had fallen beneath the sewer tunnels. They attempt to contact Jill but find that their signals have been jammed, cutting off their communications from the outside world. They soon discover another survivor named Tony Davis who hides in a cart. Tony accompanied the sibling in their search for survivors, Tony learns that Claire is apart of the NGO organization Terrasave whom he accuses as the group responsible for the tragedy of Harvardville Airport which causes Claire to angrily retorts that their group was framed for the attack. After the heated confrontation, Tony wanders off and is ambushed by a zombie tourist as the group is surrounded by few more. Chris and Claire clears out the hostiles and she tends to his wounds much to his surprise with Chris telling him that they will treat everyone's wounds even if they are bad. After tending him, Chris tells Claire to take Tony and leave the site while he continues his search for Jill, Claire is suddenly pricked in the neck by a drone and faints. Before Chris can rush to his sister, he's also pricked and incapacitated before all three of them are captured and hold in prison cells.

She is quick to draw opinions on people, whether it be when she feels someone is hiding secrets, or even when someone is wholly untrustworthy (as mentioned when she tries to warn Sherry about her feelings on Derek C. Simmons). Subsequently, she easily establishes connections with people, despite sometimes seeming aloof and sarcastic, as she initially treated both Leon S. Kennedy and Steve Burnside. It is implied in episode 3 of Revelations 2 than she had romantic feelings for her boss Niel Fisher, as Moira jokes about him being her boyfriend due to Claire worrying to much about him,and strongly denied any chance of him being a suspect behind the kidnapping. She later shed tears after learning he was indeed the traitor.

At the prison compound, Claire is placed in the cell alongside Tony with Chris just next to hers. The siblings exhibits symptoms as she's rapidly succumbing to its infection. Jill and Leon arrives at the cell at the request of the mastermind with the latter recognizing that Tony is Antonio Taylor, a DARPA scientist unwillingly helping with the terrorist's plans and wanted by the government for leaking military secrets to oversea groups much to their confusion. The mastermind reveals themselves to be former mercenary Dylan Blake and Arias's accomplice María Gómez. Dylan reveal his intention of wanting to punish corporations, organizations and agencies that are benefitting from bioterrorism including DSO, BSAA and Terrasave without working real solutions towards ending bio-terror. The former jeers at her whose charity he derides as doing less to no attempts of fighting against threats of bioterrorism instead only "apply bandages". As Claire near succumbs to the infection, Dylan directs Jill to choose either to kill Claire in order to save Antonio or let him be devoured, but the latter firmly holds her gunpoint at Dylan who in turn fatally shoots Antonio in the chest, rapidly losing blood.

  +
As Antonio lays dying despite a weaken Claire trying to staunch the bleeding, he recognizes their heroic actions and intentions. Antonio reveals that he had the backdoor code to the network, surmising that Dylan might have changed the codes after his escape and pass onto Claire before dying from his wounds. Soon afterwards, Rebecca arrives after contact with the group had been lost with vaccines ready in hand, curing everyone of their afflictions. Claire accompanies Chris and Rebecca towards the armory base where they catch up with Leon and Jill facing against Dylan who injects himself of the virus and fuses with shark BOW Megalodon . The two fuse into one monstrous entity with the 5 faces against the being with the group fires numerous caches of weapons onto its body which sustains little to no damage. Leon directs Claire and Rebecca to input the given code and halt the drones' release.
Claire responds more positively to the young girls she meets, Sherry Birkin, Rani Chawla, and Moira Burton, and becomes protective of them. While Claire and Leon had drifted apart after the events of Raccoon City, Claire remained in contact with Sherry (with the approval of Sherry's government handler) and it would seem that even Sherry, Rani, and Claire have all spent time together - or at the very least would like to.

Claire seems to act as an inspirational figure to some of the younger girls she meets. Although Sherry follows Leon's footsteps as a government agent, Sherry acknowledges that both Claire and Leon helped her form her personality as someone who does not give up and sees the good in people. At some point, Claire also establishes a connection to Moira Burton, the older daughter of Barry Burton, and is the eventual inspiration for Moira to join TerraSave. While Moira is known to be rebellious and foul-mouthed, it's unknown if it was influenced by any previous connection to Claire. Though Sherry demonstrates Claire's knack for occasional sass, Claire having been one of very few people she was allowed to interact with in her life.

Claire and Rebecca works together on deciphering and inputting the codes on the console, they successfully regain control of the drones. Before Claire can terminate, Rebecca tells her to direct them towards the mutated Dylan and injects it with multiple doses of the virus in order to scramble and destabilise its DNA, greatly weakening the creature and opening the opportunity for the trio to attack. Their combine efforts prove successful as Dylan is killed and his plan successfully prevented with the two celebrating. Outside the island, the group reminiscence their time about the operation before helicopters arrive the island as reinforcements evacuate the survivors off the premises.

She is initially deeply emotional, being one of the few heroes to display rash and strong emotions ranging from fear, anger, and sadness so early on and it is these emotions that drive her on. Yet, by the time of the attack on Harvardville airport, she demonstrates more professionalism and levelheadedness when faced with drastic situations. Claire still occasionally allows bursts of emotion shine through her more adult exterior, usually a result of anger at people that mindlessly or selfishly cause harm to others.

— Claire Redfield[6]

Claire Redfield (クレア・レッドフィールド Kurea Reddofīrudo?) is a current member of the human rights organization, TerraSave.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Claire grew up with her older brother Chris after their parents died; with this event, the two developed a very close bond. When Chris joined the U.S. Air Force, she was introduced to his new friend, Barry Burton, and he became a close family friend. After high school, Claire attended university, where she developed her interest in motorcycle customisation, owning two motorcycles herself.[7] Claire also specialized in lockpicking, becoming an expert with skill. After Chris moved to Raccoon City with Burton to serve in Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.), Claire would occasionally visit her brother to learn hand-to-hand combat and firearms training. He also gave Claire a golden lighter and his S.T.A.R.S. knife.[8][9][10]

Raccoon City Incident (1998)[]

104

Claire and Leon encounter zombies in Raccoon City.

"I have to find my brother."

In August 1998, Chris left for Europe to investigate Umbrella.[11] After weeks of not hearing from her brother, Claire left her college in late September for Raccoon City to find out where he was.

As the two made their way into the sewers, Sherry was separated and was parasitised by a G-embryo. After a meeting with Annette, Claire received instructions on how to provide a treatment to her condition, and went with her to the Birkins' underground laboratory complex.

Leon promised to take care of Sherry and urged Claire to continue her search for Chris, with Claire accepting.[12]

Rockfort Island Incident (1998)[]

Claire is ambushed by Umbrella guards

Claire is ambushed by Umbrella guards.

"I don't know what went on between you two, but you have him all wrong. My brother is not the kind of person you think he is."
— Claire to Albert Wesker

Following on from her experiences in Raccoon City, Claire went out in search for her brother. Believing him to be at Umbrella Europe's Paris Laboratory, she infiltrated it in December and was captured by the facility's security forces.[13] Taken to Rockfort Island by Rodrigo Juan Raval, Claire's arrival coincided with a sabotage operation conducted by HCF, a paramilitary group under the command of Albert Wesker. The saboteurs succeeded in releasing the t-Virus and B.O.W.s across the island,[14] and Umbrella's local paramilitary forces were wiped out. Feeling sorry for her, Raval released Claire from her cell, though believed she would eventually die anyway.[15]

In general, Redfield had significant influence on Birkin's personality as she inherited her tolerance and maternal nature with a strong heart and beliefs.[16][17]

Harvardville Incident (2005)[]

"Bastard! That little girl will probably have nightmares for the rest of her life because of you!"

Rani Chawla (3)

Claire comforting Rani during the initial outbreak in Harvardville Airport.

Degeneration Claire Epilogue

Claire, after saying goodbye to Leon, goes her way in the fight against bioterrorism.

Investigation into Penamstan and The Mad Dogs (2006)[]

"Oh, "nurture hope", huh? And what kind of future is that. One where you do whatever you want to whoever you want? Sounds more like hell."
— Claire to Wilson
Claire in Penamstan

Claire in Penamstan

in 2006, six years later, the Penamstan Civil War has come to an end with the insurgents laying down their arms.

Claire Coffee

Claire investigating into Penamstan

Returning to her motel in Washington, D.C., she takes it upon herself to investigate what had happened in Penamstan. Reviewing news footage and newspaper clippings, she pieces the information together on a wall. Among this information is the controversy surrounding the U.S. intervention, such as allegations of it being orchestrated simply to intimidate the Chinese. Moving on, she begins looking at the men who served, only to find that out of the seven "Mad Dogs" who returned to their barracks in Texas five have committed suicide.

Leon tries to save Claire

Leon saving Claire from the acid

Death of Albert Wesker and Counter-Bioterrorism Expansion (2009-2010)[]

In 2009, Chris and Sheva Alomar killed Albert Wesker and the conglomerate TRICELL collapsed due to its illegal involvement in B.O.W. Due to Sherry Birkin's protection being no longer necessary, she became a U.S. government agent in exchange for freedom despite Claire's protests. Despite this, both women always spent time together when their busy schedules permitted it.[16]

Sein Island incident (2011)[]

"Time to meet the cause of our misery."
— Claire to Moira before confronting Alex Wesker

In 2011, Redfield and a number of other TerraSave members were captured in a raid on their headquarters by a paramilitary organisation led by Alex Wesker. Having entered a deal with TerraSave member and Claire's superior Neil Fisher, the members were taken to the unknown Sein Island, and infected with T-Phobos Virus for Wesker's personal research in copying her consciousness into a new host. In exchange, Fisher was to be provided with a sample of the Uroboros Virus, so that a vaccine may be produced, in an arrangement Fisher believed to be for the greater good.

Claire appears to rescue the Burtons

Sonido de Tortuga Incident (2014)[]

Screen Shot 2018-12-23 at 10.36

Claire investigating Zanahoria Island

Claire finds the underground of the abandoned facility

Claire finds the underground of the Umbrella abandoned facility with Parker and the survivors of Sonido de Tortuga.

Claire sends her report to Chris

Claire sends her report to Chris.

A few weeks later, Claire reported her findings on the incident to Chris, hopeful that Sonido de Tortuga would recover from the tragedy it faced.

San Francisco Serial Murders and Alcatraz Outbreak (2015)[]

"You honestly think I wouldn't help you because of that?"
— Claire to Tony Davis after Terrasave being accused of terrorism behind Harvardville Airport outbreak
Death Island 11

Redfield investigating an orca's carcass

A year after the events on Sonido de Tortuga Island and New York bioterrorist attack, Claire receives a call from an San Francisco civilian William Gunner about an orca that had been tracked by Terrasave, mysteriously washed ashore and mutilated.

Death Island 20

Redfield during Alcatraz Outbreak

Death Island 21

Redfield besides Taylor's death bed

Death Island 1

The group leaving Alcatraz
