Del Lago
From Resident Evil Wiki
Del Lago (Spanish, literally meaning Of the Lake) is a massive Plaga infected creature that lives in a lake near the village. 'Del Lago' is the first boss in Resident Evil 4. It is seen first in an optional cutscene in which it eats the corpse of one of the two officers that arrived in the village with Leon.
[edit] Characteristics
The Del Lago is a massively overgrown, fattened salamander. More than eighty feet in length, it has an immense jaw with several rows of teeth, and from what seems to be its throat, countless, writhing Plaga tentacles emerge when it swims in attack pattern. Capable of devouring complete humans, it is a true leviathan residing in the lake nearby the Village's church. It has no discernible eyes, but its speed is deceptively fast in water.
[edit] Role in Resident Evil 4
It is first mentioned in a file found by Leon near the church, where it is said to be "awakened" by Saddler to guard the pass across the lake. Leon then fought it in a small motorboat anchored in the lake's shores. While Leon was crossing the lake, the Del Lago got hooked on to the anchor on Leon's boat. Leon is then pulled on along behind the Del Lago at amazing speeds. After bombarding the beast with over a dozen spears, the Del Lago begins spewing blood in copious quantities, and it succumbs and sinks to the bottom of the Lake, nearly bringing Leon with it. Leon, who is severely fatigued by the battle, then drives the boat to shore to continue with the mission. He passes out in a cabin when the Plaga he was injected with hatches and lays on the floor for 6 hours. This monster can only be killed by using harpoons.
[edit] Trivia
- If Leon stands on the edge of the dock and fires into the water, killing fish for example, Del Lago will appear from what seems to be the most shallow part of the whole Lake and eat him, causing instant death.
- The Del Lago takes 8 spears to defeat on Normal, and 12 on Professional.
- It is unknown exactly how Del Lago was "resurrected" or "awakened", possibly put into a dormant state by a previous Illuminado leader when they were hunted by the 1st Castellan.
- Del Lago seems to be a refrence to Jaws, because of the introductory scene where the camera pans above Leon's boat, showing the behemoth of monster Del Lago is swimming underneath him, and the way he dives after Leon climbs back to the boat after being knocked off it (in case the player crashes into a floating log or is knocked off by Del Lago itself).
- How much health the player has when knocked off determines the distance they are from the boat. For example, in the yellow "Warning" stage, Leon will get knocked further than if his health was green and if there is no health left, the player will be tossed a great distance away from the boat and will always be eaten before they get back.
