"desperate times", known in Japan as Defense (死守 Shishu?), is the fourth scenario of Resident Evil Outbreak File 2. It takes place at the Raccoon City Police Department somewhere between September 27 and 28 1998.

Plot summary Edit

After a large group of zombies surround the police station, Kevin Ryman takes refuge inside. Meanwhile, four of the remaining officers; stranded from their colleagues, make their own plan to escape by using a network of vents from the building's old Art Museum days. Marvin tells Rita that; as she is the only member of the team who can fit through the vents, she must use them to escape the station and seek out help.

The survivors collect a number of jeweled plates that; when all fit into a stand near the grand statue, will reveal the access way. Rita uses the vent to leave the station, but does not get back in contact with Marvin until later that night. During this time, two of the officers are killed by the undead while protecting the emergency staircase and rooftop, and a third is mauled by infected dobermans. Marvin is infected by a Zombie bite after being attacked outside while waiting for Rita.

Rita finally arrives in a SWAT van driven by fellow officer Harry just in time, knocking over a Zombie in the process. The undead have finally breached the front gate perimeter and are advancing to the station. The civilians climb into the Van as a Zombie follows them. An injured Marvin kills it with a shot to the head and orders Harry away.

This part only exists if the player uses Kevin Ryman:

Kevin comforts a crying Rita, telling her that Marvin has not died yet, and is yet to train the new police recruits.

Back at the station, an injured Marvin, having killed the attacking zombies, walks into the west office. He states that he is "not dead yet."

  • On HARD mode, the player starts off in the parking garage.
  • On VERY HARD mode, the player starts in the other side of the waiting room.

Plate collectingEdit

If starting in the east office, take the Handgun HP logo in front of you, next to the computer. If you're playing with Kevin, grab the ammo automatic handgun next to it and take the Magnum handgun in the drawer (only the police can open it). Also check the back of the table to find the file Resume envelope (also can only be caught with Kevin). Checking the bench that is behind this table you will find an Gas Neutralizing Canister. You 'll find dozens of items just like it across the stage and should always keep one in your inventory by security because suddenly any room or hallway through which you pass will be filled with a green gas that accelerates the rate of infection as quickly as if you were crawling on the floor, and only use this item stops the action of the gas. In the next bookshelf full of books, there is a map. In large central table you still find a safe (use the password 0325, found a file of Underbelly to unlock it and find a Recovery Medicine), file B Emergency orders and handgun ammunition. Enter the small office with the door open. You'll find another safe (can not open it now), the file Marvin's Memo by the phone and a Green Herb hidden beneath the chair. Take the east door (which is next to a small light at the floor). There's a cop in this area to the side of some herbs. Climb the stairs, taking care of the ravens that may appear. You'll find other Gas Neutralizing Canister and a Blue Herb. Enter the door. There handgun ammunition in this corridor (the floor) and some zombies. Enter the door ahead, reaching the " Waiting room ". Take the herbs if you want, and enter the room through the open door. Here is a Gas Neutralizing Canister and a chest. Push this bag as much as you can to the other side. Now make your way back to the room where you got the scenario ("East office") and enter the other door, unlocking it, to get to " 1F East Hall." In this corridor there is a Green Herb at the entrance, one Licker and one of its partners. This partner will be with the Emerald Plate. Let keep this item in his inventory for now to save space in your. Down the hall there is a bookcase with a drawer that can be opened only with Alyssa Lock Picks (there is a handgun burst inside). The door at the end gives the "Nigh-duty room", which is not mandatory, but there are useful items such as a Lighter on the floor to Burst Handgun ammo on the table, a closet that can only be opened with Kevin (with ammunition and automatic handgun inside Joker key, which is an optional key) and in the background, an Iron Pipe leaning against the sink and handgun ammo on a bed. There is also the Police diary file, which can only be caught with Alyssa. Standing in the hallway " 1F East Hall ", go down the stairs. If you're playing with David, you can open the cabinet wood right ahead and pick up a Survival Knife. Proceed down the hallway. At the top there is a Battery (ammunition for Stun Gun Alyssa) and an herb, on the bottom there is another Green Herb. There are few accessible doors in this corridor. One is the red double doors giving access to the autopsy room, but there is nothing useful in it as well as an herb and a First Aid Spray. Standing in the hallway between the other double door, reaching the " Substation room". Take the Green Herb above and open the drawer of the table below for the Secret File. There is also a Battery and Gas Neutralizing Canister on the ground, and Shotgun ammo and a map on a bench. Return to the hallway and enter the last door (with a green light above it). Right ahead there will be an Iron Pipe side of the soda machine and a Gas Neutralizing Canister floor. In the middle of the parking lot, take the file Emergency orders A. There is a HP handgun on a brown car and some crates behind him. Push one of the crates to reveal a Green Herb and a passage, but not from her. If playing with Mark, push one of the cars to find handgun ammo. Go to the other side of the area between the door with red light. Cross the hallway, taking care of the zombie. Collect the handgun ammo and Red Herb, if you want. If you're playing with Kevin and grabbed the Joker Key, use it to unlock the door first if you are playing with Alyssa, unlock it with Lock Picks, with any character, break it. You will be in " Kennel " and find an Iron Pipe, a First Aid Spray a Gas Neutralizing Canister and two zombie dogs. Go back to the previous hallway and enter the passage with grills. The only item here is one Green Herb. However, you should talk to the reporter in the last cell and deliver the Secret File to it. In return you will receive the Sapphire Plate. Go back to the parking lot and enter the passage previously revealed. You will be in the entrance area of the police station. Do not worry about the zombies, because all are stuck outside. Your second partner will appear here if you have not yet appeared. There are numerous herbs scattered around the place, but there are also handgun ammunition on one of the crates blocking the stairs and a Survival Knife next to the double double. Enter this door. Head to the statue in front of the center of the Hall and check it. Choose " Yes" to remove the medallion pedestal and place your two Plates instead. This medallion (Unicorn Medal) can be picked up next to the statue and serves for a magnum. Keep it in your inventory if you want. In the center of the Hall balcony for several items : an Anti -Virus a Gas Neutralizing Canister HP and a handgun. Inside, next to the police, there is the Police file notice and a machine to save. Take the double doors on the west side of the Hall. Take the file memo Station on the bench (this file is essential to unlock a safe). There are many drawers on the other side, but only two can be opened, with shotgun ammunition within a third and a set of anti -virus to another. Across the room there is a Green Herb on the floor and a small table with a drawer that can only be unlocked with Alyssa Lock Picks (there is a First Aid Spray). Return to the hall and enter the door next to the green double door entrance, unlocking it. Kill the zombies to find and enter the double back to the beginning of the scenario office door. Follow for the small office and use the password file Station Memo to open the safe. Take the Onyx Plate and return to the hallway. Advancing through it you'll find a Green Herb on the floor, a bench handgun ammunition and Timber Square next to some boxes. Among the last door to get to: "Hallway". Advance the hallway killing the zombies you encounter. You will see a Blue Herb in support of the wall handgun ammunition on the floor (beware the zombies break the windows) and a grass on the other side. If you are with the Unicorn Medal, use it on the table at the end of the corridor to gain access to a First Aid Spray and a Magnum handgun. Between the door frame prior to this (this is the only low corridor). Take the Amethyst Plate on the shelf beside handgun and ammunition in another shelf. If you push the table can get to the interview, which you can find a First Aid Spray a Gas Neutralizing Canister and a Shotgun room. Make your way back to the Hall station and place the two Plates you picked up on the pedestal of the statue. Now only one remains. Climb the stairs to get to the Hall second floor. On the way to the left side you'll find a Red Herb and Gas Neutralizing Canister. On the right side, just another Gas Neutralizing Canister the background, like a door. Between her. You will be on the side of " Waiting room " that was inaccessible the first time. Take the handgun ammo on the ground, get on the bag that you pushed when I was on the other side and grab the Ruby Plate. Now push the bag as far as getting back to the other side and return to the Hall. Place the last Plate on the pedestal and watch the scene. Check your computer by choosing " Yes", then exit the station through the double door entry.

Optional: Keep Marvin waitingEdit

While dozens of zombies invade this area and you have to kill most of them and survive for a time until the scene is finished. You can talk to Marvin and choose "Yes " to begin the final battle, or you can choose to collect some items and weapons and do some events before the confrontation. The second option is indicated for better utilization of the scenario, but the instructions from here are optional and, anyway, you are a sort of countdown to this invasion, so be quick. Take Padlock and Key Film in the ground. Go down the stairs and use the shortcut to get to the garage. Between the gate that is now open to find herbs, Magnum ammo, the Film and a D Sub Machinegun. Go back to the garage, through the door with red light and go to the " Kennel ". A police officer will be dropped in the last cell and, beside it, the Ace Key and Film C. Leave this place and go talk to that reporter who is in the cell of another runner. Delivered three Films him to get some items (a First Aid Spray, a Recovery Medicine and other Sub Machinegun). Go back to the garage and enter the door next to the soda machine. Proceed down the hall and up the stairs. Go through this hallway, enter the door to return to the first room of the scenario and go through the next door (with a small white light on the side). Here the police will be dead and you can take your HP and handgun ammo. Climb the stairs and enter the door. Go through the door ahead. Being on the right side of " Waiting room " again, go into the trunk and use the Ace Key to unlock the safe. Inside there will be ammo Sub Machinegun and a Magnum handgun. Leave this room and enter the last door of this corridor to get to the " Rooftop ". Here there are many items : A Shotgun in the body of police, Shotgun ammo, the Film B on the ground (the reward for this will be another Magnum), a First Aid Spray on a barrel and an anti -virus. Use the Padlock Key to unlock the gate at his side and in between. You'll find half a dozen Plywood Board against the wall. If you want to make one of the events in the scenario, take them with you distributing them between your inventory and your partners. Now go back to the entrance of the police station, where he was Marvin. If you brought the boards, put them at the gates, but it does not actually prevent the invasion of zombies. If you brought the Film B, use the shortcut from the garage to take him to Ben and get the ultimate reward (other Magnum handgun). If you have time to do all this, go back to the entrance of the police station and talk to Marvin.

If the cutscenes invasion interrupted you, you will have to face the zombies and leave to collect the items they missed the next time you play this scenario, because the police will be inaccessible during the final battle. Unload all your ammo on the zombies and blow the red gals when enemies are crowded near them. Remember to use herbs to heal this place if you are attacked. After some time an animation happen and the scenery is finished

Further notes Edit

  • David King has different camera angles in his ending.
  • In the waiting room where you find one of the plates (And where the player starts on very hard mode) there is a item box from previous Resident Evil series. There is actually an item box in that room in Resident Evil 2. It is, however, unused in this scenario, but only usable to push and climb up.
  • When the scenario is completed by Kevin you can see a speeding police car heading towards the station pass the SWAT van.
  • Ben Bertolucci makes a cameo in this scenario, and is also an unlockable character within the game (If given a roll of film, and then purchased for 3000 points).
  • If an AI character dies in a room by the nerv gas and the player is in a room next to their "dead mark", they will still answer the player if they´re called or talked via ab-lib. Once the player goes to the room, the AI will drop dead as soon the player enters the area.
