Dr. Salvador
From Resident Evil Wiki
Dr. Salvador (aka "Chainsaw Man") is a powerful chainsaw-wielding Villager Ganado who frequently serves as a sub-boss in Resident Evil 4. He wears a potato sack mask over his head and is armed with a Chainsaw. Ironically, "salvador" means "savior" in Spanish.

Attacks
Dr. Salvador will approach Leon ambling faster than most Ganados. If he gets close enough, he will swing his saw at Leon's neck, fatally sawing cleanly through if his attack is successfully uninterrupted.
Appearance
There are several variants of Dr. Salvador, each with slightly different appearances:
- A skinny man wearing a bloody shirt and a bloody sack mask.
- An overweight man with a clean shirt and mask.
- A tall version wielding wields a double-bladed chainsaw. (Mercenaries mode-only)
Dr. Salvador appears as a burly chainsaw-wielding villager with a burlap sack over his head. He can be detected by the sound of a chainsaw revving nearby. Due to his size, sack mask and unique weapon he is very easy to tell apart from regular Villagers. He appears multiple times throughout the game. Here is a list of some of his appearances:
- He will appear, along with two villagers, in the exit during the Pueblo battle, but will only appear if the player has not triggered the shotgun house cutscene.
- He may also appear if the player chooses to go inside the large house next to the tower and the dirt road.
- He will always appear outside the front door to Bitores Mendez's house.
- He will attack the player in the mines beneath the Castle.
- Two Salvadors appear together a little further on in the tombs, one on each level of the building holding the mine key.
- Two Salvadors will appear during Leon's minecart escape.
Strategies
Killing Dr. Salvador is tough, for he has considerable health and doesn't stagger easily. Regular non-upgraded handguns are not recommended when facing this Ganado. Here are some strategies:
- Throw Incendiary Grenades at Dr. Salvador, then shoot him as much as you can, avoiding getting too close to him.
- Stun Dr. Salvador with Flash Grenades and fire at him rapidly, using regular Grenades every chance you get.
- Blow him off his feet with a shotgun blast, then keep shooting him while he's down.
- Stay away from him and avoid getting near him at all costs.
- Shoot him until he's down on his knees, approach and kick him (this may take several times and a lot of ammunition because he's very tough). An easier but similar way would be to use an upgraded handgun to stun Dr. Salvador with a headshot, and then kick and knife him.
- If you're a pro, you can knife, but this is tricky because he can fool you sometimes. If you have one, use a Flash Grenade. Then kick him down then keep knifing while you have a chance.
- Wii Version: If you have the Wii Version, the knife becomes stangely faster as you could take as much time as up to five minutes.
- Wii Version: If you have the Wii version, he becomes considerably easier, as headshots will take him out cleanly and quickly
The Mercenaries
Main article: Super-Salvador
A much larger version of Dr. Salvador, Super Salvador (nicknamed Mega Dr. Salvador or simply Giant Salvador) appears on the Water-World level of the non-canon minigame, "The Mercenaries". Killing him earns the player more points than killing a normal Ganado. If he kills the player, he/she is still decapitated, but there is no special animation; Leon's head falls cleanly off. Unlike Dr. Salvador, he wields a double-bladed Chainsaw.
Trivia
- In the Japanese version of RE4, Leon S. Kennedy's decapitation is censored due to decapitation being banned in Japan.
- The Stats state Salvador a Doctor, but players describe him as a killer, due to see bloodstains on the "skinnier" version of Salvador and the bloodstains on his chainsaw.
- If you throw a Hand Grenade just before he is about to decapitate you, the grenade will stop him from decapitating you.
