"HUNK" is the codename of a Special Agent of the Umbrella Security Service, who was the leader of the ill-fated Alpha Team in the employment of Umbrella. Cold, silent, and devoid of emotion, he is a ruthless operative.
Almost nothing is known about HUNK's history or even his real name. The earliest piece of information relating to him was that he was trained at the Rockfort Island Military Training Center in 1996.[3] HUNK has carried out a large number of successful operations, many of which he was the only one to return alive from. This earned him the nickname "Mr. Death" or "Grim Reaper HUNK".
Cornering Birkin in his laboratory, HUNK initially tried to reason with the scientist, but Birkin was adamant in not surrendering his life's work. As William attempted to back away from the agents, he accidentally knocked over a metal container. The sudden noise caused the second U.S.S. member to shoot William with a burst from his Submachine Gun.
HUNK berated his subordinate for the action, which could have damaged the sample case, leaving the virus potentially damaged and irretrievable. He collected the entire case and left the lab with samples of the G-virus, as well as the t-Virus, which were also present in Birkin's case. With their main objective complete, the team headed through the tram into the sewer to reach their extraction point.
While in route, they were confronted by Birkin, who had injected himself with a sample of the G-virus shortly after being shot. Birkin, now a horrifically mutated monstrosity named "G", pursued Alpha Team and exacted revenge. During the fight, the case was spilled. After killing HUNK's team, G consumed the G-virus samples and crushed the t-Virus samples under his foot. Sewer rats became infected by the t-Virus spill and spread the virus throughout the city via the sewer network, which spread into the water supply.
Only HUNK and Miguel survived Birkin's attack. Unmoved by his comrades' demise, he focused his efforts only on returning a surviving sample to his superiors. At least a week after the confrontation with William, HUNK managed to contact his team's helicopter pilot and arranged to meet him on the roof of the police station.
After making his way through the precinct, HUNK reached the roof, set off a flare, and was extracted by helicopter and successfully escaped Raccoon City.
HUNK was assigned to transport a container to Rockfort Island. The mission was controversial in that Alfred Ashford, the island base's commander, did not reveal to the team exactly what was inside the crate. HUNK was concerned over the danger an unidentified package could be to an unprepared unit, and made his displeasure clear in his report.
HUNK is a playable character in the non-canon minigame, The Mercenaries minigame in Resident Evil 4. His appearance differs from Resident Evil 2, as he now wears an entirely different outfit which was his design in both Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. He is armed with a custom TMP with an AN/PEQ laser unit mounted to the right of the heavily-reinforced barrel shroud with a pressure switch wire running to the foregrip, as well as a folding wire stock, a non-protruding barrel, a shroud-mounted handguard, and an extended magazine. Much like Leon's and Ada's TMPs, the front iron sight is dropped flat.
The stats for HUNK's TMP are:

He is also armed with 50 extra TMP rounds, three hand grenades and a first aid spray. This light load keeps HUNK's inventory very open and uncluttered, with an extra 42 spaces free (10x4+2). Because it is unlikely that his case will be filled completely during the course of a mission, inventory management is negligible. The only items that his foes will drop are grenades, TMP ammunition, and healing items. HUNK has 7 bars of life, and can take a fair beating, but is not by any means the most resilient Mercenary. Only Ada is weaker, with 6.5 bars. He can take 5 hits from normal villagers before dying, and only 3 from stronger enemies, such as Stun Rod-wielding Ganados or strikes from a Garrador.
HUNK also has two special moves, like every other Mercenary. When an enemy has taken a hit to the head and is stumbling, he uses the Neckbreaker move, which instantly kills the enemy. This is capable of killing the two Bella Sisters instantly, but it cannot be used on the other bosses, including J.J., Super Salvador and the Garrador. When an enemy gets hit in the calf or kneecaps and falls to their knees, HUNK can use the Riot Kick, a single, powerful kick which can knock an enemy back several yards. Although this can break up a group of enemies, it is intended to knock foes back and is usually not a one hit kill. Since HUNK's TMP burns ammo quickly, a skillful player must rely on HUNK's takedowns more than any other character to survive, HUNK also does not have a knife, thus a player cannot simply slash a Ganado in order to perform a Neckbreaker.
Due to his lack of knife, if HUNK runs out of TMP ammunition and grenades, he must rely on environmental damage, (such as kicking open doors or knocking foes down when they try to climb ladders) as his only means of attack. He may also allow a Ganado to grab him and then quickly break free, hopefully kicking off the Ganado's head. In this situation the player must use these environmental and physical attacks and hope for an ammo drop.
In the non-canon game Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, HUNK is one of the three starting characters, alongside Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. HUNK's alternative costume is called Mr. Death, which is unlockable by getting ALL A-rank on ALL Mission Level (except Level Ex).
Elbow Strike: When HUNK injures an enemy in the head or stuns them, he can walk up to them and hit them with his elbow and knock them back. Multiple enemies can be hit with this attack.
Riot Kick: When HUNK injures an enemy in the arm and he approaches from the front, he whips out a blade from the toe of his boot and kicks the person in front of him, which knocks them back. Multiple enemies can be hit with this attack.
Neckslicer: When HUNK injures an enemy in the arm and he approaches from the back, he pulls out his hidden blade on his arm and slices the enemy's neck. Multiple enemies can be hit with this attack. HUNK also preforms this move when he destroys a time bonus, which, if an enemy is in front of him, injures them.
The End: When HUNK injures an enemy in its foot and he approaches from the front, he pulls out his hidden blade, walks up to the enemy and stabs the from the bottom of the jaw and then he kicks them off his blade. This is an instant kill to a single enemy, though when he kicks the body off his blade, the body may hit other enemies.
Executioner: When HUNK injures an enemy in its foot and he approaches from the back, he pulls out his hidden blade and shoves it into the enemy's back then shoves the body off his blade. This is an instant kill to a single enemy, though when he shoves the body off his blade, the body may hit other enemies.
Triple Tap: When HUNK walks up to a enemy on the ground, he pulls out his P8 and fires three times at HUNK's Side Kick
the enemy. Multiple enemies can be hit with this attack, but only if they walk in front of HUNK as he is shooting. Shooting the gun in this manner doesn't consume ammo.
Side Kick: When HUNK walks up to a stunned powerful enemy (like Gatling Gun Majini) or uses the skill Reversal, which lets the character gain access to more powerful Melee Attacks when vitality is low, he does a flying karate kick, knocking the enemy back.
HUNK's regular attire is 90% damage in-take and 270 vitality recovery rate. HUNK's Mr.Death has a 70% damage in-take, the 3rd highest in the game, plus 180 recovery rate.
HUNK has been unveiled as a character card in the second set for Resident Evil DBG, Alliance. He is most useful in Partner Mode, where he can transfer the damage he receives to his partner. HUNK further benefits from using his partner by gaining two extra cards if he is alone at the beginning of his turn. HUNK has the lowest health of any male character in the game along with Steve Burnside; both of which having the lowest health out of all the characters (70) alongside Ada Wong, Rebecca Chambers, and Claire Redfield. A second HUNK character card has been introduced in the third set, Outbreak. This HUNK is also based on his Umbrella Chronicles incarnation, but has 90 Health and new abilities. His Level 1 effect allows him to take 10 Damage at the beginning of the turn. If its used, this let's the player get +1 Explore. His Level 2 effect states that if he has 10 or less Health, his base damage is raised by 30. HUNK is also featured on the Action card By Any Means Necessary, which shows his appearance from Darkside Chronicles.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (Non-Canon)Edit
HUNK appears in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City in the opening mission, where the objective is to obtain the G-Virus sample from William Birkin. He is the leader of the Wolfpack during the mission, and accompanies them through the whole mission. He separates from them at the end as they enter the elevator, stating that he left the sample behind and he was going back to get it. He is not seen for the rest of the game, apart from the separate Heroes Mode as a playable character (his abilities are similar to VECTOR's RECON abilities).
He was the first character to use the Neck Breaker that grants an instant kill as an ability and doesn't allow the parasite to spawn from the body. Chris Redfield later gained the ability in Resident Evil 5.
In Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles his sidearm is nicknamed "Matilda." (H&K VP70)
His philosophy states that the mission comes before everything, including comrades.
HUNK could be considered one of the most mysterious characters within the franchise, as practically nothing is known about him (be it his age, or his early life, or even his real name) aside from his role as a mercenary.
HUNK's location and status since the fall of Umbrella are unknown.
HUNK is also a playable character along with other U.S.S. troops in Resident Evil Outbreak by using a Game Shark cheat device. There are two versions. HUNK A which has HUNK without his mask and comes with a First Aid Spray in his inventory. Then, there is HUNK B which has HUNK with his trademark mask on. This version comes with 30 Handgun bullets. Both are Kevin-type characters.
In the parody minigame The Tofu Survivor he is seen at the end eating the main character, Tofu.[4]
In Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, you can unlock HUNK's scenario, The Fourth Survivor, by clearing Death's Door (Ada), Nightmare 2 (Rebecca), and Dark Legacy 2 (Wesker). During the mission, the powerful Handcannonmagnum can be found by shooting the double door on the left side of the room, immediately after looking at the statue.
HUNK's face can be briefly seen in The Umbrella Chronicles by the end of The 4th Survivor, reflected by the G-virus container.
There's a small photo of HUNK in some of the computers that the player will need to access in Resident Evil CODE: Veronica. Curiously, this is the same photo from HUNK's inventory in Resident Evil 2.
Capcom confirmed at San Diego Comic Con that HUNK will appear and have huge influences inResident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. He was recently added to the list of "Key Persons" on the official Japanese site for the game.
HUNK is mentioned in three of the reports released in the viral promotion campaign for ORC. The first is a report by him, expressing interest in VECTOR's abilities and personally requesting him to be added to the squad. The second is a psychological report about HUNK's mental state. The doctor notes that HUNK only seems to have a soldier side and that any human side seems to have vanished. The last is a report by Alfred Ashford, saying he will order HUNK to transport the package containing the Tyrant. In the aforementioned reports, the doctor also notes that HUNK seems to respond to the name "Bella" though he (the doctor) could not determine the relationship.
HUNK's nickname is "Grim Reaper", but has been mistranslated several times throughout the series into "God of Death", "Death" and "Mr. Death", leading to the nonsensical phrase "The death cannot die".
HUNK and the U.S.S. in general have had their uniforms modified in each new series installment they appear in.
In Resident Evil 4 HUNK's mask and uniform are shiny in the GameCube and Wii versions, however the PS2 and PC port is lacking the shine due to the poor graphics of the PS2 and the PC port being based off it. HUNK is also missing the shine in the HD version for Xbox360/PS3, this is strange considering that this port is based off the Wii Edition.
