Infection
From Resident Evil Wiki
A viral infection can be caused by either being bitten, injection, or any other way managing it to enter the bloodstream. The host is a person or organism infected with a viral agent. Examples of viral agents are the T-virus, G-virus, T-Veronica virus, T-G virus and the Uroburos virus.

[edit] T-virus infection
[edit] By Inhaling
This process of infection is only seen in the 2002 film Resident Evil, in which the initial infestation of the Hive is caused by the release of the T-virus into the atmosphere. According to the film, there is an airborne T-virus strain.
However, the T-virus is not airborne in the games.
[edit] Human Infection
Human infection can take as long as a week, or even a few minutes before transforming the host into a zombie. The time difference seems to depend on the victim, along with the method of infection (ie. injection, bite...etc).
[edit] Secondary Infection
The stages of infection from drinking infected water usually last between a day and a week.
The stages of infection are the following:
- The victim's skin begins to rot, slowly, causing unbearable itching. Necrosis occurs afterwards.
- The rotted skin eventually falls off in lumps. Deterioration of the brain occurs, causing mental instability. If in groups, this can cause cannibalism.
- The victim is now considered a zombie, reduced to (and relying on) only its primal instincts. By now the zombie has a level of hunger that cannot be quenched by normal food. Therefore it only craves and hunts for flesh, constantly trying to satisfy itself in vain.
[edit] Zombie-Human Infection
This form of infection lasts between minutes and a day, depending on many variables including...
- the immune system of the victim.
- the amount of T-virus initially contracted.
- If Medical objects such as a First Aid Spray, an Anti-Virus Pill, or a Herb are used, the rate of infection is slowed down temporarily.
- Open wounds allow the T-virus to spread quicker.
[edit] Leech-Human Infection
Being Leeches, they feed via sucking the blood of creatures, allowing the Leech to infect faster. Between the attack on the train and the discovering of the zombies by Rebecca Chambers, is would take less than 2 hours, maybe even minutes. Sometimes the leeches will stay on the body making a 'Leech Man' which will turn into a Zombie within minutes, with the Leeches still hanging on.
[edit] Cerberus-Human Infection
Cerberi always travel in packs. Due to their canine instincts, they will all eat the target. Due to packs being at a maximum of 10-14 (explained in files), it would be more likely of the human dying and their body being too damaged to resurrect.
[edit] Nyx-Organism Infection
The Nyx project always absorbs its prey into its body, limbs can be formed from absorbed victims. None of its victims have a suitable enough for resurrection if freed.
[edit] G-virus infection
[edit] By direct injection
This infection process was seen in Birkin. In this process, the host injects the G-virus and start to mutate in a matter of seconds. As the mutation is very fast, this infection is considered incurable.
[edit] By G-embryo's implantation
In this infection process, a human host infected with G-virus can create and implant little larvaes in other people (which are not infected). The larvae turns in an embryo. Now there is a process:
- If the embryo's host has a DNA compatible with the G-infected (the one which implanted the larvae), the embryo will stay inside the host, until it grows. The host will have fever and other symptoms in this process.
- If the embryo's host hasn't a DNA compatible, the body will reject the embryo. As it happens, the embryo will exit, killing the victim.
This infection process can be cured with a vaccine codenamed DEVIL. However, the vaccine only kills the embryo, leaving some cells infected with G-virus. Apparently, this doesn't change the host's life.
[edit] T-Veronica virus infection
[edit] By direct injection
This is the only infection process known. This process causes fast mutation, destroying the host's brain tissue and skin. But the scientist Alexia Ashford, who created the virus, discovered an adaptation process. In this process, the host injects the T-Veronica and exposs the body to an ultra-low temperature for 15 years, so the virus will not destroy the brain or skin.
[edit] Uroboros Infection
Infection happens through injection. Uroboros is supposed to create a superior race of humans (to those that it deems to have superior DNA, so far only Albert Wesker has been "accepted" by it), and kill all the others that it deems "not worthy". Since there has only been one person so far who has not been rejected, it is uncertain if there are other stages to the infection.
[edit] Symptoms
- The infected will begin usually begin feeling intense abdominal pain (as seen in Excella Gionne and the man infected with it in the opening cinematic)
- Uroboros worms will burst out of the body, usually through the skin or other openings, like the mouth. If the host is incompatible, this process kills the host.
- The worms will consume the unworthy host entirely, and sometimes even consume the other bodies in its vicinity to make itself grow in size and strength.
- The Uroboros mass will proceed to kill anyone in its vicinity, thus demonstrating that in the incompatible hosts, intellect is lost.
