The Ingram Model 11 is a simple Sub-Machine Gun that is essentially a smaller variant of the MAC-10 (chambered in 9mm parabellum and .45 ACP). Firing the 9x17mm Browning Short (.380ACP) round, the M-11 is neither powerful nor accurate.
The open bolt action spits out bullets at roughly 1200 RPM, or twenty rounds per second. It burns through ammo at an impractical rate and has severe recoil in automatic. Combined with a weapon no bigger then your average pistol, it becomes clear that the M11 can really only be used as a bullet hose.
Both weapons were originally manufactured for law enforcement use, but the MAC-10 gained little popularity due to its unreliability. The M11 was met with slightly more positive reception. Both weapons have been copied by various weapon manufacturers, and are considered to be more popular among both civilians and criminals than among law enforcement.
The in-game model is adorned with a large flash suppressor. Contrary to popular belief, the suppressor was not designed to slow the bullet to reduce the supersonic crack or quiet the muzzle report, but rather to eliminate the muzzle flash so the firer could not be found as easily. However, due to the bulk of the suppressor, it was more often then not used as a foregrip to tame the recoil. Some even came with a strap on the front sling mount used as an improvised grip.
[edit] In Resident Evil
The M11 is featured in Resident Evil 2 as the primary Machine Gun. This weapon can be found in the RPD armory in by either character. However, if a player takes this weapon in the A Scenario, it will be unavailable for the following B Scenario.
Ammunition is counted as a percentage value, similarly to the M4 of Resident Evil 3. One spare magazine can be found on the B Scenario within the double locked room within William Birkin's Lab, unless the player does not currently have a sub-machine Gun, in which case one appears in the same place as the magazine would be. The M-11 takes up two inventory slots.
As Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles covers the events of RE2, The M11 will be featured as a usable weapon as seen in the second trailer, albeit without the suppressor. Screenshots also show it as being usable during the Code: Veronica segments.
