Monica was an Umbrella Corporation employee. She worked in William Birkin's laboratory beneath Raccoon City, and had a history with Yoko Suzuki.

In late 1998, as the tyrant virus ravaged both the city above ground and below, Monica decided to take advantage of the confusion and steal a G-Larva. She murdered a fellow researcher in cold blood, and stole the larvae.

But her escape was hampered when she failed to activate the facility's tram, which would later be used by Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield and Sherry Birkin during their own escape a few days later. After giving up hope of using the train, Monica encountered the amnesia-stricken Yoko. Taunting Yoko and alluding to her unknown past, Monica stole Yoko's ID card at gunpoint and ran away.

Using Yoko's card, Monica tried to use the turn table in the lab to make it to the surface, but her efforts came to nothing, as the lift was frozen into place. Immediately after, Monica was attacked by William Birkin and disappeared.

She was seen unconscious for the last time as Yoko, George Hamilton, and Alyssa Ashcroft (see: Canon in Resident Evil) were about to use the lift to leave the facility. By this time, Monica had been implanted with the G-virus. As the lift ascended, the larvae burst from her chest and made it's way up the shaft for one final fight.
