[edit] Resident Evil 4
After firing a single rocket, the RPG (rocket propelled grenade) is useless and is discarded. Because of this, it should be saved for boss battles or other tough enemies. It is not advisable for all bosses, such as Krauser (his agility makes hitting him unlikely but if you hit it close to him it should do a good amount of damage) However, it can prove useful in the battle against the twin Garradors, El Gigante, and Salazar killing most in one hit. It can also deal massive damage to the Verdugo. (or kill him in one hit if he's frozen) Due to its explosive blast and awkward handling, the Rocket Launcher is unsuitable for close-quarters combat; it is better suited for mid- to long-ranged combat, where its scope can be better utilized. There is also a "special" rocket launcher that can be obtained during the ending battle with Saddler, that will kill him in one hit. The only difference between the regular and special rocket launchers is that the special has a red rocket. You cannot buy the special rocket launcher from the merchant but if the special rocket launcher isn't used during the battle with Saddler it can be sold in the new round for 30,000 pesetas.
The Rocket Launcher cannot be upgraded.
[edit] In Resident Evil 5
The Rocket Launcher is essentially the same as in Resident Evil 4, with a zoom scope and single shot functionality, also modeled after the RPG-7. It can only be found on a capsized boat in stage 3-1, towards the northwest of the map. Subsequent replays of the level will only allow you to loot the launcher if there currently is not one in either players inventory or stash. After completing stage 3-1, the rocket launcher can be purchased in the shop for ₦10,000. Don't think about selling the Rocket Launcher repeatedly as you only get a pathetic ₦1,000 in return.
During the first stage of the boss fight against Albert Wesker, you can find a special rocket launcher with a night vision scope. This launcher is also a single shot weapon, however it is not discarded after firing and can be reloaded with the rockets lying around this room, and only this room. It does not appear in the inventory and must be put down in order to switch to another weapon or use an item, similar to the Flamethrower from the Uroboros Mkono boss fight.
In the The Mercenaries minigame, the Safari outfit variant of Chris Redfield carries two single-shot rocket launchers.
To unlock the Rocket Launcher with infinite ammo, beat the game under 5 hours on any difficulty, and turn on infinite ammo under Special Settings -> Infinite Ammo.
The Rocket Launcher does a total of 30,000 damage.
