[edit] Background

A gifted girl, Rebecca was able to graduate university by the age of 18. Her expertise in chemistry and medicine earned her a position in S.T.A.R.S. as Rear Security (RS) for Bravo team. She became the unit's youngest (and most inexperienced) member which made her quite nervous around her teammates. Because of this, she is eager to please and has been known to take on any task assigned to her without hesitation.

[edit] Arklay Region incident

My first mission and I've already disobeyed orders. So much for my great law enforcement career.

On July 23, 1998, Rebecca was sent to the Arklay Mountains on her first case to investigate a series of cannibalistic homicides. During Bravo team's search of the area, they discovered the wreckage of a military police van, along with the corpses of the drivers and guards and documents of a prisoner, Billy Coen, that was being transported to a Military base for Execution.

Upon further investigation of the area, Rebecca uncovered the Umbrella Corporation's secret company train, the Ecliptic Express. Within the train, Rebecca immediately encountered the passengers, who were already turned into zombies as a result of an earlier attack. Rebecca was able to fend for herself for a time and met with the fugitive, Billy Coen. After witnessing the death of Bravo team member Edward Dewey, as well as the appearance of mutated animals, Rebecca and Billy made a temporary alliance and teamed up.

The train began to move again, due to the dexterous manipulations of Umbrella operatives sent by Wesker and Birkin.

The train eventually arrived at Umbrella's top-secret training facility within the region. Rebecca and Billy assisted each other throughout, overcoming many of the facility's traps and obstacles, as well as many of the Bio-Organic Creatures that were being raised within the structure. These events were able to strengthen Rebecca's trust with Billy, to the point that she lied to her commanding officer Enrico Marini, when he asked for Billy's whereabouts via radio.

Eventually, the two found themselves at a tram car, which led to another of Umbrella's underground labs. Although briefly separated, the two eventually found each other and made their way to the deepest levels of the facility. They met with the true culprit behind the outbreak, James Marcus. Marcus was a founding member of Umbrella who was betrayed by his apprentices and killed, while his research was taken over by William Birkin. But he was revived after being consumed by his genetically-altered leeches that were infected with the Progenitor virus. Marcus transformed into the Queen Leech. Although he seemed impervious to firearms, Rebecca and Billy quickly discovered that Marcus was vulnerable to sunlight. Billy baited Marcus while Rebecca was opening the roof hatch eventually exposing Marcus to the light of day and destroying him for good.

[edit] Mansion incident

Rebecca and Billy parted ways, with Rebecca taking Billy's dog tags. Rebecca rendezvoused with the remainder of her team within the Spencer estate.

Rebecca managed to find a bedroom and fell into a deep sleep, waking up after having a nightmare. There, she met up with Richard Aiken and the two searched the grounds for captain Enrico Marini. However, due to a heightened amount of Web Spinner's, the two stopped the search. As the two headed into the mansion, they were attacked by Yawn. Rebecca was nearly killed, until Richard saved her and was severely injured.

Alpha team was later sent to rescue Bravo team and Rebecca met with Alpha team member Chris Redfield, who cured Richard with serum. The two teamed up, with Rebecca providing her superior intellect in situations that required it, such as playing a piano or mixing chemicals, while Chris saved Rebecca's life on a few occasions.

Eventually, the two uncovered that Alpha team leader, Albert Wesker, was the one who masterminded the deaths of several S.T.A.R.S. members and was personally responsible for Enrico Marini's assassination. However, Chris and Rebecca eventually foiled Wesker's plot, with Chris and Jill destroying the experimental Tyrant whilst Rebecca activated the self-destruct mechanism of the lab that Wesker had installed. Rebecca, Chris, Jill, and Barry escaped on the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team helicopter piloted by Brad Vickers.

Upon her return to civilization, Rebecca wrote a police report detailing Billy Coen's death. Rebecca's current whereabouts are unknown.

The BioHazard Archives lists her as deceased after the Raccoon City Outbreak, although this was considered one of the Archive's many mistakes. Her status was confirmed in the History files in Resident Evil 5, where she is listed as being one of the surviving members of S.T.A.R.S.

[edit] Appearances

Rebecca is the main heroine in Resident Evil Ø. She, along with a falsely imprisoned ex-lieutenant, Billy Coen, fought against the culprit behind the Outbreak around the Arklay Mountains.

Rebecca Chambers then appeared, chronologically, in the Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles chapters, "Nightmares" 1 and 2. In this segment, she met up with Richard Aiken in the Umbrella Residence, where they began a search for the rest of Bravo Team, this search met with no success. They were attacked by the "Yawn"- an infected Adder that suffered further mutations. This resulted in Aiken being poisoned by the snake.

Her next appearance is in Resident Evil, where her role was greatly reduced. In Chris's scenario, he meets her and brings aid for Aiken. Eventually, she managed to escape the Mansion with Chris, Jill Valentine and, canonically, Barry Burton.

Since the events of Resident Evil, she has been absent from all other game-related events with the exception of being depicted in a photo and mentioned in a letter during the events of Resident Evil 2, as well as in a document authored by her character in the Nintendo 64 version of the same game.

In the first game, Rebecca was portrayed by an unknown model named "Linda". In the 2002 remake, she was portrayed by Hope Levy. Canadian actress Riva Dipoala portrayed her in Resident Evil 0.

In the special features for Resident Evil Degeneration, one of the games producers talks about how he thinks fans would like to know what happened with Rebecca next, hinting that the next CGI Resident Evil film (if they make it) could be about Rebecca's story.

[edit] Wardrobe

In the original Resident Evil, Rebecca is seen wearing a S.T.A.R.S. uniform, a green t-shirt and pants with a white bulletproof vest. The medic symbol is printed on the back of her vest. She also wears black, fingerless gloves and boots. She also wore a red headband and white earrings, which have been omitted in the remake and Resident Evil 0.

In the Arranged Mode featured in Resident Evil: Director's Cut, she wore a streamlined, burgundy-colored version of her uniform, which consisted of shorts and a T-shirt. In the Resident Evil remake, her alternate costume is a cowgirl outfit consisting of a brown cowboy vest, boots and jeans shorts. This costume was carried over to Resident Evil 0 along with another alternate costume consisting of leather pants and a halter top with long fingerless gloves. In the Rebirth Mode of Resident Evil DS', she also has a bikini as one of her costumes and has a cheerleader costume.

[edit] Trivia

  • Rebecca's overall appearance in RE0 was modeled after popstar Ayumi Hamasaki, who was the official spokeswoman for Biohazard 0 in Japan.
  • A Photograph of Rebecca can be found in Resident Evil 2 if you examine Wesker's desk fifty times.
