[edit] The SIG 556
The SIG 556 is a export version of the SIG 551 combat rifle aimed specifically at the U.S. market. It fires 5.56x45mm NATO round and uses STANAG magazines rather then the proprietary magazines of the 550 (standard), 551 (carbine) and 552 (compact/commando). The NATO STANAG magazines are used in weapons such as the M4 and M16 family, the GIAT FA-MAS G2, and L85.
The weapon is also much lighter then the other 55X models, as the heavy reinforcement for rifle grenades (mandated by the Swiss army) was not necessary on a export model. In addition, the 55X line's traditional folding stock is replaced by an M4-style telescopic stock.

Featured in Resident Evil 5 as the fourth machine gun and the second assault rifle available to the player. Found in section 5-2. It has a starting firepower of 80, reload speed of 2.55, and a capacity of 40. Fully upgraded, it has a firepower of 180, reload speed of 1.42, and a capacity of 80. Compared to the other machine guns, the SIG-556 has mid-range firepower and capacity, but the fastest reload speed and a high rate of fire.
The SIG-556 is the primary weapon of the BSAA teams sent to Kijuju. Two 556s outfitted with scopes are also seen being used as sniper rifles by Dave Johnson and Josh Stone.
In-game, the receiver mounted sight rail is adorned with an EOtech holographic weapon sight, along with a PEQ visible laser sight on the right side handguard rail.
