The Smith & Wesson Model 29 is a revolver chambered for the .44 Magnum cartridge. It was made popular as the weapon of choice of "Dirty" Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) in the Dirty Harry films. This gun is probably more practical than the Smith&Wesson Model 500 due to the fact that it's recoil is easier to control and has a higher capacity upgrade.
due to the fact that these weapons are so powerful, the ammunition is very hard to come by. So if you decide to keep one of these beasts in your inventory slots, be careful because eventually you'll get pretty sick of carrying a gun thats empty most of the time. If you find the ammo, and have the gun. Save it. Its ability to pierce multiple opponents at once and having one of the highest damage ratings of all the handguns makes it invaluable to have in a pinch.
In Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil Outbreak: File 2, the M29 is the first magnum available and can be used in conjunction with a speedloader.
In Resident Evil 5, the M29 can be found in Chapter 3-1 on the dead body of a B.S.A.A. soldier. In order to acquire this weapon, the player will have to enter a hut and trigger a trap set up by the Ndipaya. After completing Stage 3-1, the S&W M29 may be purchased for 3,000 Gold. It has a starting firepower of 1500, reload speed of 3.53, a capacity of 6, and a piercing value of 0. Fully upgraded, it has a firepower of 3200, reload speed of 2.83, a capacity of 12, and a piercing value of 1.
Fully upgrading this weapon will unlock the S&W M500.
A stainless steel variant of the Model 29, known as the Model 629, is used in Resident Evil 3.
