The Spencer Mansion, part of the Spencer family's real estate, was a manor built in the Arklay Mountains by architect George Trevor for the aristocrat Oswell E. Spencer. After finishing its construction, George and his family were invited there.
During the t-Virus outbreak events around Raccoon City, the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) stumbled upon the mansion; which was now overrun with zombies and "monsters". It was later destroyed after the incident.
History
Early days
The mansion, viewed from a cliff
The mansion's final stages of completion took place in November 1967. Oswell E. Spencer had planned to use the mansion as another Laboratory for secret, and illegal experiments, which includes the manufacturing of B.O.W.s in the hidden laboratory of the mansion's sub-level basement, and inhumane experimentations. During this time, inside the mansion, George Trevor and his family were taken captive by the fledgling Umbrella.
George had later suspected that Spencer wished him to be terminated because he and Spencer had vast knowledge of the secrets of the mansion. If George were to be killed, Spencer would be the only individual with the most knowledge of the mansion's structure. George managed to stay in hiding, due to his knowledge of the estate's traps and passages, but gave up hope upon seeing a gravestone with his name on it, placed there by Spencer. It is presumed that he died here.
Meanwhile, his daughter, Lisa Trevor, and his wife, Jessica Trevor were taken to the laboratory to become test subjects for the Progenitor virus. Jessica was unresponsive to viral injection, and was terminated as a consequence. Lisa, however, showed promising results and was continued to be experimented on for years to come. During her time in the mansion, Lisa developed the unsettling habit of removing the faces of her victims and wearing them over her own. Eventually, research was concluded on Lisa.
Arklay Mountains outbreak
Thirty-one years later, there was an "accident" in the lab, and the latest strand of the t-Virus leaked, polluting the entire complex. All inhabitants, which included Umbrella researchers, were infected from the virus and were (due to the viral nature) degraded into zombies. Some who had yet to have fully succumb to the effects of the virus were killed either by suicide, by Umbrella's security team when trying to escape the mansion, or by the B.O.W's that had escaped their confinement.
It was revealed that the "resurrected" Dr. James Marcus, one of the leading founders of the Umbrella Corporation and former director of the Umbrella Research Center, was responsible for the t-Virus outbreak that ravaged the mansion as an act of revenge against Oswell Spencer for having him assassinated ten years earlier, thus beginning the events of the Mansion Incident.
Some of the Umbrella staff members (like the Chief of Security, or Albert Wesker) saw this as an opportunity to eliminate Raccoon City's law enforcement, S.T.A.R.S. and at the same time, gain important combat data on the B.O.W.'s running loose in the mansion. There was a scheme to have S.T.A.R.S. members lured into the mansion, as it was inevitable that S.T.A.R.S. would investigate the mansion which is the center of the bizarre cannibalistic murders that took place in the suburbs of Raccoon City. This scheme had unfortunately proved to have had some success as much of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team division were killed by these B.O.Ws.
Destruction
The Mansion was later destroyed when surviving S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team member Rebecca Chambers activated the self-destruct sequence. Rebecca managed to escape the complex along with surviving S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team members Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, and Brad Vickers via helicopter before the detonation of the estate. Albert Wesker was also reported to have survived the explosion, coming back alive using a prototype virus given to him by William Birkin.

- The writing on the tombstones in the estate's cemetery are written in Greek.
- In the 2002 Resident Evil film, Schloss Lindstedt was used to portray the unnamed Mansion based on the mansion. Schloss Lindstedt was the home of Erich von Falkenhayn a General of the Deutsches Heer (German Army)
- The mansion makes a cameo in Hulk's ending in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. In this ending, Hulk is smashing his way through the various zombies and B.O.W's (including "the pursuer") with Chris, and they eventually end up at Wesker's lab.
