- Umbrella is founded as a means of selling bioweapons to the US military in order to generate funds for their eugenics program. All variants of the Progenitor virus intended for use as weapons of mass destruction are designated as "t-Virus." Oswell E. Spencer, James Marcus, and Edward Ashford each embark on their own research into the Progenitor virus with the goal of developing bioweapons.[1][2] Following the discovery of the Progenitor Virus, Spencer informs his former teacher, Miranda, and decides to adopt the symbol representing the four noble houses in her Romanian Village as the company logo.[3]
- The cable trolleys used for transportation in Raccoon City are constructed and imported from Europe.[4]

- April 25:
The managing director of the Incineration Disposal Plant P-12A is born.[6]

Edward Ashford is infected with the Progenitor virus and passes away, leading his son Alexander to assume control of the Ashford family.[4]

The Umbrella Executive Training School is constructed in the Arklay Mountains.[4]

James Marcus is chosen by Spencer to serve as the director of the Research Center in the Arklay Mountains. Although Marcus is not enthusiastic about the role of training new employees, he accepts it as a means to conduct his experiments.[7]

Marcus writes in his journal about his recent disagreement with Spencer regarding the development of the Progenitor virus.[7]
