This outbreak incident took place in an Umbrella facility on the Ross Ice Shelf.
Events
During the Rockfort Island outbreak of December 1998, a number of personnel boarded remote-controlled carrier planes to escape the doomed island. Unbeknownst to many of these evacuees, they were infected with the t-virus.
The planes landed the following day in the Antarctic, not far from an Australian research outpost. Late evacuees Claire Redfield and Steve Burnside arrived to find the facility already compromised. Furthermore, the lack of security and safety on the part of the zombies led to the release of Hunter and Black Widow B.O.W.s.
The outbreak ended later that week upon the arrival of Claire's brother Chris Redfield. Activating the auto-destruct system, he and Claire escaped on a harrier moments before the base exploded.
