The Army National Guard is a paramilitary force in the United States formed by the Dick Act. The Army National Guard may be called up for active duty by the state governors or territorial commanding generals to help respond to domestic emergencies and disasters, such as those caused by hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. With the consent of the respective states' governors, the Army National Guard can become a reservist arm of the US military, supporting both the regular army and air force in the field.
The National Guard local to Raccoon City's state took part in the quarantining of the city in 1998. The National Guard local to Harvardville's state assisted in the quarantining of Harvardville Airport.
