Bioroid: Year Zero was repeatedly advertised ahead of its performance through competitions and special press conferences.

October 1999 event[]

Bioroid was formally announced at a press conference on Monday 4 October 1999 at Ginza Studio. The event was conducted by Miyake, Yamazaki and Hiroshi Tagami with the guest appearance of Shinji Mikami. During the event, Zombies invaded the stage and menaced reporters.[1]

Prize draw[]

To promote the play locally, SET held a competition for dancers from each of seven of the cities they intended to perform at. The winner was Mai Ōmine, a fifteen-year-old dancer from Osaka. The two runners up were Kōichi Ōtake from Sendai, and Akinatsu Tani, an eighteen-year-old Kyōgen performer from Osaka.

March 2000 event[]

A second press conference took place on Friday 31 March 2000 at the Makuhari Prince Hotel in Chiba. Among those at the event were Hiroshi Tagami, Hideaki Mizuki, Shinji Mikami, Yūji Miyake, and Osamu Yagihashi. The panel discussing the development of the stage play. Tatsuhiko Kase and Naoko Shiraishi of SET making a press announcement, as well as introducing Mai Ōmine as the winner of the prize draw. Immediately after, a flash-mob of Zombies invaded the stage. They were then "saved" by Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, played by Masaru Miyauchi and Noriko Hasegawa respectively.[2][3][4][5]

April 2000 event[]

A third press conference was held at TGS 2000 for the public on Sunday 2 April, and was chaired by Tatsuhiko Kase and Naoko Shirato. Ōmine performed a dance for the freshly composed "Bioroid Year Zero Theme", which was interrupted by a Zombie attack. They were again saved by Leon and Claire.[6]

Zombie Face Contest[]

Coinciding with the play being performed, SET held a second contest encouraging fans to send in photographs of themselves in Zombie cosmetics. Participants had from 23 June 2000 to 13 August 2000 to send in their photos either in the post or as emails. The winners were announced in September, and the prizes available for choice included copies of the first three PlayStation games, a copy of Resident Evil CODE:Veronica on Dreamcast, a copy of Resident Evil on PC - each of these were signed by Shinji Mikami. Two more prizes included a BIOHAZARD t-shirt and Year Zero table clock.[7] The winner was Yumi Koyama, who picked the signed PC game.[8]
