Caliban Cove was the location of an Umbrella laboratory in Maine. Around the same time as the first outbreak in the Arklay Mountains, the facility's manager and primary researcher, Nicolas Griffith, infected almost the entire research staff with his own specialized version of the t-virus, turning them all into his own personal slaves.
The S.T.A.R.S. Exeter Alpha Team, along with Rebecca Chambers, were dispatched to Caliban Cove after receiving a tip from anti-Umbrella activist Trent sometime before September 1998.
Facility
The Caliban Cove facility was built around a huge lighthouse, with several outlying buildings and a dock. The outer perimeter was patrolled by trisquads and enclosed within a fence, prompting the S.T.A.R.S. to attempt an insertion across the cove itself. This was ultimately thwarted by another B.O.W. released into the water, which capsized their boat and forced the S.T.A.R.S. to seek refuge in the boathouse itself.
The facility featured several outbuildings, many of which were connected to a computer mainframe. Steve Lopez attempted to hack this in order to find more information on the biohazard, but Griffith had already wiped out most of the relevant data.
Many outbuildings featured a series of puzzles, designed for the training of trisquads. While the various riddles and challenges would've proven difficult for the average zombie, they weren't much trouble for the S.T.A.R.S. members. Unfortunately, the facility's labs were all extremely "hot" with the t-virus, and this led to Karen Driver becoming infected with the t-virus.
The facility's main building was a lighthouse, although most everything was actually located beneath the building. The tunnels below were briefly turned into the hunting ground for another new B.O.W., the Ma7, but these too were put to rest by the S.T.A.R.S..
The final level of the facility, where Griffith had set up shop, consisted of the devices he'd need to globally disperse his t-virus variant, was well as an airlock, which he attempted to kill David and Rebecca with. This plan ultimately backfired, as the S.T.A.R.S. were able to blow the airlock up instead, flooding the facility and killing Griffith.
The facility was likely occupied by loyal S.T.A.R.S. members afterwards. Its fate is unknown.
