The Caucasus Laboratory was a laboratory owned and operated by the Umbrella Corporation. It was one of Umbrella's last facilities to fall. Formerly a Soviet-era chemical plant, it continued to serve this guise to cover up its biological research.
OverviewEditThe Soviet government built a large chemical plant in the Caucasus some time before its collapse. In 1998, it was purchased from the Russians by Umbrella, and was used for the research and production of Bio Organic Weapons for the black market. Some time after July, the T-A.L.O.S. project was moved here from the defunct Arklay Laboratory.
During the events of February, 2003, Albert Wesker intentionally leaked the existence of T-A.L.O.S. and its location so that his former S.T.A.R.S. comrades Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine would defeat the specimen, allowing him the opportunity to kill Umbrella paramilitary commander Colonel Sergei Vladimir and get his hands on the U.M.F.-013 data, which contained information on Umbrella's most important assets and weaponry.
Wesker went in first, releasing the t-Virus and infecting the research personnel in the process. As he headed after Sergei, Wesker would be stopped by his bodyguards, the Ivan. His superhuman abilities gave him an advantage over the two Tyrants, and he killed them before resuming his search.
Meanwhile, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, along with other members of the Private Anti-Biohazard Service infiltrated the facility. The two eventually came face-to-face with the T-A.L.O.S., but despite its great strength, the B.O.W. was defeated.
Towards the end of the T-A.L.O.S. fight, Wesker would corner Sergei, who had already injected himself with the t-Virus. Sergei was revealed to have the rare gene (occurring only in one per ten million people) allowing his body to co-habit with the virus, and became a Tyrant.
After defeating Sergei at the end of a long battle, during which even he had had to be careful, Wesker stole the Umbrella data via the Red Queen. He then wiped the computer, keeping the information on a disk.
The following Bio-Organic Weapon strains were encountered during the February 2003 assault on the Caucasus Laboratory. Strangely, several of these strains had previously been declared as unprofitable or unfit for use as B.O.Ws by Umbrella: the reasons behind their presence here are open to speculation.
Additionally, Wesker encountered a gigantic Infected Bat similar to the one faced by Billy Coen and Rebecca Chambers in the Church above the Umbrella Executive Training Center. Its presence is similarly unexplained.
To date, the Caucasus Laboratory is one of the few laboratory settings in the series to not feature a self-destruct mechanism, the others being the Umbrella Africa Laboratory and the Uroboros Laboratory.
