"I can't keep running away. I have to face the truth, accept responsibility. That's the only way I'll ever remember. The only way I'll get my life back."

— Chris, after returning to the BSAA.
Chris quote - Cant Keep Running Away

Chris Redfield is an American Special Operations Unit Captain of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, of which he is a founding member, along with Jill Valentine. Chris is also the older brother of TerraSave member, Claire Redfield.

BiographyEdit

Early lifeEdit

At around seventeen years of age, Chris joined the United States Air Force, where he received training in both planes and helicopters.[7][excerpt 1][8] During this career he served in a unit alongside Barry Burton, who he became good friends with.[9] Chris' strong conviction put him at odds with his senior officers, and he quit the first chance he got.[8] During this period Chris also trained to use a variety of weapons including knives, and was known for his marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat.[10]

Law enforcement career Edit

Following his Air Force retirement, Chris was scouted in 1996 by the Special Tactics and Rescue Service, a special law enforcement team in Raccoon City. He accepted the invitation, and was given the position of pointman for Alpha Team.[8]

In the Spring of 1998 Raccoon City was haunted by a series of cannibalistic murders and animal attacks on hikers and residents living near Raccoon Forest. The Raccoon City Police Department suspected the attacks were perpetrated by a Satanic cult who would consume massive quantites of narcotics in order to carry out the gruesome attacks on men, women and children as a sacrifice, which included violent facial mutilations and torso's ripped open and excavated of contents. Police progress went as far as establishing the Arklay Mountains to the northwest of the city as a likely base of the cult's operations, but could not identify any suspects. After two months of little progress and a death list increasing, the RPD gave in to public pressure and put S.T.A.R.S. on the case.[11] On 23 July, the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team travelled into the mountains to verify the existence of the suspected hideout, but was downed during a storm and radio contact was lost.[12] The following night, Alpha Team was sent out into the same area to investigate the loss of contact. There they discovered the corpse of its pilot, Kevin Dooley, and were soon after attacked by a pack of dogs who killed Joseph Frost. Taken entirely by surprise, the Alphas were unable to put up a fight, and were forced to run into a mansion when their pilot, Brad Vickers, took off without them.[13]

During the S.T.A.R.S. investigation of the mansion, Chris; Barry; Wesker and Jill went their separate ways. Chris found a Bravo Team member, Rebecca Chambers, who's team had also sought shelter in the mansion and split up. It became clear by the early hours of the morning that, thanks to evidence left behind, the mansion had links to Umbrella U.S.A. and was constructed by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals co-founder, Oswell E. Spencer. A laboratory was also found on the grounds, which was used for illegal bio-weapons research on behalf of the American military. It was discovered that strain of t-Virus escaped containment and infected the staff, turning them into Zombies and were responsible for the murders in Raccoon Forest. Captain Albert Wesker was discovered to have been an agent for the corporation's intelligence department and had received orders by the company to destroy the facility to cover-up their connection to the killings and silence any witnesses. When Wesker released the Tyrant (T-002 Model) from containment, it seriously injured him before being killed at the laboratory's helipad as the self-destruct closed to zero. Chris; Jill, Barry and Rebecca escaped on Brad's' helicopter, while Wesker, recovered thanks to a virus he had infected himself with, escaped on foot.

After his ordeal, Chris was treated at the Raccoon General Hospital,[14] where doctors confirmed he had sustained no permanent injuries.[15] Chris; Jill; Barry and Rebecca made a number of attempts following their recovery to report Umbrella to the authorities. Taking bribes from the company, Chief of Police Brian Irons resorted to shutting down S.T.A.R.S. entirely and had the ordinary police handle the Umbrella investigation,[citation needed] while Chris was himself being spied on by the company.[16] Chris nonetheless obtained information on a "G-Virus", and, suspecting Irons to be corrupt, asked a federal police agency to handle an internal investigation of Irons and further investigate the G-Virus.[17] Deciding to investigate the Umbrella Corporation's headquarters in Europe with Barry, Chris began an aggressive streak which included the assault of another officer, Elran. For these actions he was suspended, giving him an excuse to go to Europe as a vacation, while Jill remained in Raccoon City to oversee the police investigation.[18]

Investigation of Umbrella (1998) Edit

"Yeah! It's payback time. We've gotta destroy Umbrella. Now, let's finish this once and for all!"

Chris' search for the Umbrella headquarters ended quickly in the late December. His sister Claire had been captured by Umbrella's security division in France and transported to a prison camp on Rockfort Island in the Southern Ocean. A strain of t-Virus engulfed the island as its security forces battled HCF, a paramilitary unit under the command of Albert Wesker. Chris himself was made aware of this when he was contacted by Leon S. Kennedy, a US-STRATCOM agent Claire had met in Raccoon City. Chris immediately travelled to the island to her rescue. Immediately he met Rodrigo Juan Raval, a security guard who had freed Claire from her cell earlier during the chaos. Chris continued to explore the remains of the island's facilities after he became aware Claire had left the island altogether, and was confronted by Wesker, who revealed to him he had gained superhuman abilities following his near-death experience. From him Chris understood that Claire was at an Umbrella facility in Antarctica, and piloted one of the facility's harrier jets to the Ross Ice Shelf.

Upon reaching the Antarctic base, he found her unconscious in a replica of Spencer's Mansion. Wesker himself traveled to the base in pursuit of Alexia Ashford, who possessed the last remaining sample of the t-Veronica virus. Chris and Claire's reunion was brief, as they were separated when Claire departed to find fellow prisoner Steve Burnside, with whom she had been cooperating.

Chris watched Wesker and a mutated Alexia fight after he demanded she hand over the Veronica virus, but was forced to deal with her himself when Wesker fled the scene. Chris brought her down temporarily.

After Steve's death, Chris activated the base's self-destruct system, and reunited with his sister. They attempted to escape, but Alexia reappeared and tried to stop them. Chris and Claire activated a special weapon, known as the Linear Launcher, but the weapon needed time to charge. Chris told Claire to wait for him at the Harrier jet while he dealt with Alexia. Claire reluctantly agreed, but Alexia tried to attack her. Chris shot Alexia, whose body responded by mutating into an arthropod-like monster. Claire ran away, and Chris battled Alexia alone. During the fight, Alexia left her cocoon body and transformed into a dragonfly. The Linear Launcher finally recharged and, with only one shot, Chris was able to finish her off.

When the base began to crumble, Chris chased after Wesker, who had taken Claire hostage. After some talk, Wesker released Claire, claiming that it was Chris he wanted and that killing him was better than completing his mission of acquiring the t-Veronica virus. Chris also learned that Wesker planned to extract the t-Veronica virus from Steve Burnside's corpse, and was appalled by Wesker's implication that he planned to resurrect Steve from the dead. Telling Claire to wait at the jet, Chris engaged Wesker in hand-to-hand combat, but was brutally beaten by Wesker's new superhuman abilities.

As Wesker gloated that his new powers were well worth the price of his humanity, a desperate Chris caused several hanging girders to topple onto Wesker's head. Even this was not enough to kill Wesker, but the two dazed men were in no condition to continue fighting, and the imminent destruction of the facility forced Chris to flee for the jet. Wesker promised that the next time they met, it would be the last. With the base exploding around him, Chris emerged from the elevator and was blown across the room, landing on the nose of the jet. Scrambling into the cockpit with his sister, Chris piloted the jet away from the facility, which promptly exploded. Claire asked him to promise he won't go off and leave her alone again, but Chris said that he had to put a stop to Umbrella for good.

After this incident, Chris was reunited with Jill, who had previously escaped Raccoon City with Barry Burton. She had previously arrived at Chris' ransacked apartment, but found only his knife on the floor. Jill set off to find Chris, who was already searching for her. After reuniting, the two joined as partners for an anti-Umbrella and bio-weapon task-force. Working only with each other for the next five years, they did everything they could to try and expose Umbrella, but always wound up at a dead end.

Private anti-B.O.W. agency (2003)Edit

"The nightmare ends, here and now!"

Following Raccoon City, Chris and Jill founded an anti-BOW agency to investigate Umbrella and destroy bio-weapons. In early 2003 they heard reports of mutant wolves attacking in the Caucasus region. Upon arrival to the nearby village, they were attacked by zombies. After clearing them out, they investigated the town, eventually finding a little girl named Anna hiding inside her house. She described to them the wolves attacking and spreading the infection, her mother turning, and her father hiding her in a closet. She also told them how the adults often gathered at the silo. Chris and Jill figured that if there were any other survivors, they would have hidden themselves in the silo.

Entering the silo, they found it deserted, except for the corpse of the village chief, seemingly frozen to death in the refrigerator. They discovered that he froze to death to escape the zombies, which quickly set down upon them. The three tried to run outside, but found the door blocked from the outside. Before they were overwhelmed, Chris shot at the flour packages lining the walls and created a distraction. After narrowly escaping by hiding in the fridge, Chris and Jill exited the silo to find Wesker outside, who congratulated Chris on his "dumb luck".

Chris accused Wesker of being behind the events of the village, but Wesker insisted that it was nothing more than an accident, claiming that the village was "cursed". At that moment, the ground collapsed near the entrance of the silo, releasing two Hunter δ. Chris demanded that Wesker tell them what they were doing under the village, but Wesker ignored him and left, leaving Chris and Jill to fend off against the Hunters. They managed to get to the car and use a grenade launcher there to destroy the Hunters. Then they went off in pursuit of Wesker, who, they noted, headed for the village. Arriving at Anna's house, they found Wesker attempting to access a safe. Wesker explained that Umbrella had set up multiple hangars all over the world, and that most of this village were actually Umbrella employees. Furthermore, their leader had collected data in this very house. At this point, Anna revealed that her father had given her a pendant, which Wesker took and used the pendant as a key to the safe. However, the safe contained an explosive, meant for Anna's protection, forcing Chris, Jill, and Anna to escape. Chris and Jill discovered from Anna that her father worked at a factory at a nearby chemical factory belonging to Umbrella.

Joining a regional biohazard containment unit, Chris and Jill carried out a full-scale assault on the Caucasus facility, which was believed to be housing a new type of B.O.W.. After being dropped off, they proceeded to storm the facility, destroying any of Umbrella's old Bio-Weapons they encountered, and skillfully avoiding traps.

Eventually, they were confronted with a new experimental Bio-Weapon, codenamed t-A.L.O.S. Sergei Vladimir revealed himself to be the creator and sealed Chris and Jill inside the t-A.L.O.S. containment room and activated the monster. Sergei taunted them, announcing that as fellow soldiers, Chris and Jill know the feeling of being alive in battle, before revealing T-A.L.O.S. as if to say no amount of battle experience is enough to defeat this new B.O.W..

Having no choice but to fight, Chris and Jill were successfully able to defeat t-A.L.O.S., finally ending Umbrella once and for all. After escaping the facility, Chris and Jill still lamented that Wesker was still out there. Though their troubles with Umbrella were over, it would only be a matter of time before they would be dealing with Wesker again. Unbeknownst to them, Wesker had actually infiltrated the same facility in order to take out Sergei Vladimir.

Il Veltro and the BSAA (2003-2005)Edit

"We'll find you, Jill... I promise..."

After Umbrella's collapse in 2003, it became clear that rogue researchers had succeeded in selling off company assets to the black market, with terrorist organizations and rival firms acquiring them. In response to this new threat, Chris and Jill helped co-found the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), dedicating to stopping the creation and usage of bio-weapons.

In 2005, a year after the infamous bioterrorist attack known as the Terragrigia Panic, the BSAA was informed about the resurrection of "Il Veltro", the bioterrorist organization that destroyed the aquapolis. In order to investigate this rumor, BSAA director Clive R. O'Brian sent Chris and his new partner, Jessica Sherawat, to a mountain range in Valkoinen Mökki, Finland, where Veltro's hideout was rumored to be located. Once in the area, however, Jessica and Chris suddenly lost contact with the BSAA headquarters, forcing the two to proceed with the mission without radio support.

In the meantime, Jill Valentine and Parker Luciani launched a rescue mission to the Mediterranean Sea to locate them. According to the last known coordinates issued by terminals, Jill and Parker learned that Chris and Jessica were somewhere in the ocean, possibly aboard a ship. This leads Parker and Jill to an investigation on the Queen Zenobia.

Arriving at the peak of the mountain, Chris and Jessica witnessed a terrible crash of a cargo plane nearby. Searching the crash site, they find traces of a virus along with the mauled corpse of the pilot, who was suspected to be a Veltro operative. Following a path, Chris and Jessica rushed through a mining area, a shortcut to the hideout. While in the caves, they were attacked by several mutant wolves infected with the t-Abyss virus, then still unknown. During the combat, Chris' leg was injured, but he was still able to defeat the Fenrir pack with Jessica's help as she made her way to his location. At the end of the caves, Chris and Jessica discovered an airbase used by Il Veltro as a hideout. Soon after this, O'Brian finally managed to contact his agents and was informed that Il Veltro was active once again. Chris and Jessica also received bad news: Jill and Parker had gone missing during the last operation to find them, and it was possible that Parker and Jill had been captured by the Il Veltro. Chris and Jessica immediately returned to headquarters, taking a chopper and setting off on another mission to find the Veltro's ghost ship. However, there was no further information about the cruise ship's current location.

Under Chris' suggestion, O'Brian sent operatives Keith Lumley and Quint Cetcham back to Valkoinen Mökki airport in order to find any data that should give the BSAA the exact coordinates of Queen Zenobia. This mission was accomplished, allowing Chris and Jessica to locate the cruise liner. Landing on the ship's deck, Chris and Jessica began the search for their lost comrades, fighting off hordes of mutants. However, they soon realized that this ship was actually the Queen Semiramis, a carbon-copy of the Zenobia. Revealing this mistake to O'Brian, Chris acquired the actual location of Queen Zenobia. While approaching the Zenobia in a boat, Chris and Jessica were attacked by an unknown sea monster, but they managed to frighten it off and ensure their entrance to the ship. They finally found Parker and Jill in the ship's Casino, where Jessica shot an unarmed Veltro agent, much to Chris' surprise. Unmasking the dead agent, they discovered that he was in fact Raymond Vester, an FBC operative. After this, Chris partnered up with Jill once more, heading to the ship's lab in order to stop the t-Abyss virus before it contaminated the sea, while Parker and Jessica searched for a way to delay the Queen Zenobia's sinking.

Once in the labs, Chris and Jill managed to neutralize the t-Abyss virus once and for all, not knowing their actions were being monitored by Morgan Lansdale, the mastermind behind the Terragrigia Panic. While escaping the sinking ship, Jill and Chris found a wounded Parker (shot in the leg by Jessica, Morgan's mole). However, they were unable to save him from seemingly falling to his death, though he managed to survive. Outside of the Queen Zenobia, the two were attacked by the same giant B.O.W. that Chris and Jessica fought, but they manage to destroy it with the help of Kirk Mathison.

However, the mission was not over yet: Director O'Brian came clean with Jill and Chris, telling all about the Veltro conspiracy orchestrated by himself. He also confirmed the existence of a third ship: Queen Dido. In order to retrieve a video containing the proof of Morgan's schemes, Chris and Jill headed for the Dido's remains beneath Terragrigia ruins, discovering that Jack Norman, leader of Il Veltro, was still alive inside the wreckage. Filled with vengeance against Morgan, Norman injected himself with the t-Abyss virus, becoming the powerful "Ultimate Abyss". After a grueling fight, Chris and Jill were able to destroy the creature, retrieving Norman's PDA and revealing the truth about Terragrigia, causing Morgan's arrest and the decline of FBC.

Spencer Estate investigation (2006)Edit

RE5GoldChris

Chris in his old BSAA outfit when he and Jill infiltrated the Spencer estate.

"A few years ago, the BSAA received intel to the whereabouts of Umbrella's founder, Ozwell E. Spencer. Jill and I were ordered by the BSAA's European Headquarters to apprehend him. We accepted that mission in hopes of uncovering some info that would lead us to Wesker."

In 2006, Chris and Jill received a tip-off from a reliable source detailing former Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer's location, and the pair intended to raid his hideout and arrest him for questioning.

Entering the estate, it was not long before they discovered the bodies of Spencer's bodyguards, who had already been brutally killed through "unconventional means". Both of them had to survive and endure numerous puzzles and traps built on the estate, whilst fighting off the multiple Guardians of Insanity which relentlessly pursued them throughout their mission. Proceeding through the estate's gardens, they fell through an old bridge and landed in the sewers below, losing most of their equipment in the process. Defenseless, the agents relied solely on their wits to outsmart and eliminate the remaining Guardians of Insanity before making their escape from the sewer. When they arrived at the last hallway in the estate, they discovered more of his bodyguards horrifically murdered outside the entrance. When they opened the last door where Spencer could be hiding, they were greeted by Wesker, who had just killed Spencer a few minutes before their arrival. A brief battle soon followed. Although the two put up a fight, both Chris and Jill were easily beaten by Wesker's superhuman powers, and just as Wesker was about to deal the blow that would end Chris' life, Jill launched herself at Wesker, hurling the pair through the nearby window and into the chasm beyond the cliff the mansion was built upon. Chris could do nothing as he watched his partner fall to her death.

The BSAA conducted a three-month search for Jill's body, but with no success. As a result, Jill Valentine was officially declared dead in the line of duty. For the next 3 years, Chris refused to believe that Jill had died, and put himself into every mission available, with the hope of finding some kind of lead to Jill's whereabouts. Chris eventually got wind of some rumors saying Jill was still alive, although he was never able to confirm the rumors until 2009.

Kijuju Incident (2009)Edit

"More and more I find myself wondering if it's all worth fighting for. For a future without fear? Yeah, it's worth it. "

230px-ChrisRedfieldRE5

Chris Redfield in Kijuju.

Three years later, in 2009, Chris Redfield became possibly the most active and respected member of the BSAA, across all branches. He had participated in more missions than anyone else and was responsible for their success. In March, during one of his investigations, Chris discovers an upcoming plan of a bioweapons deal, that occur in KAZ (Kijuju Autonomous Zone, or simply Kijuju), Africa. Chris was sent to Kijuju to arrest a Bio weapon dealer named Ricardo Irving. With the help of fellow BSAA member and new partner Sheva Alomar. Chris and Sheva arrived in the butcher shop and received the mission coordinates, equipment and weapons from Reynard Fisher. They soon discovered that Kijuju was suffering from new and more advanced forms of Plaga, and were forced to take down hordes of vicious "Majini". In Kijuju's Public Assembly, Fisher is beheaded by the Executioner Majini, and a large number of Majini attempts to ambush Chris and Sheva. Fortunately, Kirk Mathison, the air-support, finds a way to put an end in the battle. They receive a radio call of Alpha Team being attacked by an unknown creature. They encountered a new type of B.O.W. that was responsible for the deaths of BSAA Alpha Team members. Not long afterward, Kirk Mathison's helicopter crashes due to an attack from Kipepeo. When Chris arrives at the crash site, he and his partner fall into a trap of the Majinis. With the aid of other BSAA members such as Josh Stone and Dave Johnson they were able to survive through a variety of horrific dangers eventually coming into contact with Irving, who evaded them with his partner, a mysterious cloaked woman. It was soon after that Chris came upon a file depicting a blonde girl whom he recognized as being his old friend and partner, Jill Valentine.

Chris and Sheva eventually found Irving in the mining area of Kijuju, but a cloaked person managed to help him to escape. However, Chris checked the files that Irving left behind, which led them to an oil refinery where Irving was hidden. Soon after, Irving released a B.O.W. Called Popokarimu. After destroying the monster, Chris and Sheva took a ride through the Savannah, fighting hordes of Majini on trucks. After dealing with them, they arrived at an abandoned town where they found a hideous B.O.W named Ndesu. After killing the beast, Chris told Sheva that he had to find Jill and advised her to go back because they are working without orders now. However, Sheva declined, and vowed to stick with Chris until the end. After taking a ride on a motorboat through the marshlands, then finding multiple emblems to escape the marshlands, Chris and Sheva found Captain Stone, who aided them on their journey to find Irving at the oil refinery.

Upon arriving at the refinery, Irving tried to kill Chris, Sheva, and Josh by blowing it up, but the BSAA agents managed to escape and confront Irving. In an ultimate effort to destroy Chris and Sheva, Irving injected himself with a sample containing the Dominant Species Plaga, which mutated him into a massive, tentacled monster. Chris and Sheva were able to destroy the monster, but before his death, Irving told Chris that all of the answers he was looking for would be in the caves.

With Irving eventually taken down, Chris told Sheva that he only got involved in the mission so he could find Jill, whom he suspected was still alive. Although surprised, Sheva remained adamant about sticking with Chris. The duo discovered a large facility full of capsules used to store test subjects. Chris rushed to a monitor to see if Jill was among them. As the platform they stood on rose to Jill's capsule, Chris and Sheva were attacked by a large creature known as U-8. This promptly stopped the platform, forcing Chris and Sheva to fight back.

After its defeat, both were greeted to an empty capsule, and Excella Gionne via the monitor, who denied any knowledge of Jill. Sheva recognized Excella as one of TRICELL's co-founders, and told Chris she was lying. Later, they met Excella again in a lab, where they came across a test subject, who mutated into Uroboros Mkono. After defeating the resulting monstrosity, they eventually tracked down Excella, who was accompanied by Albert Wesker and a mysterious cloaked female acquaintance. Chris demanded to know the whereabouts of Jill and was stunned when Wesker removed the hood of his mysterious helper, who was none other than Jill herself. Despite Chris' attempts to snap her out of Wesker's brainwashing, he and Sheva were attacked and overwhelmed by her.

As Wesker prepared to leave, Chris managed to get through to Jill. Wesker, although surprised, activated a device that causes her extreme pain, and leaves Chris to watch her suffer. Sheva spotted the device on Jill's chest and helped Chris in forcefully removing it.

After Jill collapsed, Chris rushed over to her and is relieved to find that she was alive and back to her senses. She apologized for her actions and urged Chris to continue and stop Wesker before he can finish his preparations. Chris initially refused, more concerned about getting Jill to safety. However, she grabbed him and insisted that he was the only one capable of stopping Wesker. As Chris backed into the elevator, and Jill told Sheva to look out for him.

The pair eventually found Excella, who ran off in a panic, dropping a vial containing an unknown substance. Surmising that it may be important if Excella wanted to guard it so badly, Chris advised Sheva to keep it.

Ultimately, it became clear that Wesker had no loyalty to Excella when she is revealed to have been injected with the Uroboros virus, which rapidly consumed her. The mutated Excella attacked Chris and Sheva, though they were eventually able to defeat it and turn their sights to Wesker. It was then that Chris receives a call from Jill, who explained that Wesker needed to inject himself with a serum to keep the virus inside of him stable, but overdosing it would weaken him - a serum which happened to be in the vial Excella had previously dropped. After a very one-sided battle with him, Chris and Sheva manage to take control briefly and inject the serum into Wesker's chest, causing him to flee onto his airship with Chris and Sheva in hot pursuit.

Their fight continued in the cargo bay before Chris interrupted Wesker's rant about being humanity's "savior" with another injection in the neck, labeling him as "just another one of Umbrella's leftovers." Managing to take advantage of his weakness, they sent him flying out of the cargo room, only for Wesker to grab Sheva's leg in an attempt to take them down with him. As Chris watched, images of Jill rushed through his mind as he remembered how he thought he had lost her trying to kill Wesker. Before Sheva could sacrifice herself by letting go, Chris grabbed her, and Sheva shot Wesker in the face and he is sucked from the plane.

Crashing in a volcano, Chris and Sheva were shocked to find Wesker still alive and angry. Puncturing a container of Uroboros, Wesker began to mutate with it and attacked Chris and Sheva. They retreated, but the rocks they cross over break, separating the pair. Sheva shouted to Chris to get higher so she can attack Wesker, who turned his attention toward her. Stranded, Chris was forced to punch a huge boulder out of the way so Sheva could join him. Wesker followed, but Chris and Sheva were able to make a final stand against him. After wounding Wesker and revealing his molten weak point, Chris jumped on Wesker's back and grabbed the Uroboros tentacles, prying them from the weak point. Chris yelled to Sheva to shoot the weak point but Sheva refused, saying that it would kill Chris. Instead, she decided to use her knife to continuously stab at Wesker's weak point. With Wesker stunned, Chris jumped off his back and grabbed his Machete, working with Sheva to deliver one final stab to Wesker. As Wesker stood, injured, the ground beneath him gave way, causing the megalomaniac to slip into the lava. Jill and Josh arrived in a helicopter just in time, with Jill throwing down a rope ladder. The two quickly jumped onto it, Chris only barely managing to grab hold as the ground broke beneath him. Sheva and Chris are helped into the helicopter, only for Wesker to emerge from the lava and catch one of his tentacles onto the helicopter skids. Jill pointed to the two RPG-7's that were in the chopper, which Chris and Sheva both used to end Wesker once and for all.[19]

In the aftermath, Chris finally realized what he had been fighting for, and although he felt he had accomplished all that he had set out to do, he knew that it was only a matter of time before someone like Wesker showed up again. For this reason, Chris decided to go back to working in a team, passing on his knowledge and skills to a new generation for when that day finally came along.[20]

Philosophy University Outbreak (2010) Edit

"I know it's not any of my business, but I want you to think of us as a family... no matter how this all ends."
— Chris to Tyler Howard

After the defeat of Wesker in Kijuju, Chris began to train the new generation of BSAA operatives. Among these was sniper Piers Nivans, whose skills particularly stood out to Chris as he took him under his wing.

Around August 12, 2010, Chris was contacted by Rebecca Chambers, now an advisor to the BSAA, to meet with her at Philosophy University in Australia. Heading to the scene with Piers, the two found that the school had been contaminated with a new strain of the t-Virus.

Chris, Rebecca, and Piers were joined by Sophie Home of the BSAA Oceania Branch and detective Barrington Mayer.

Chris's initial plan to split into two groups and sweep the zombies in the area eventually led them into the heart of the university, where Professor Ryan Howard's lab was hidden away. There he discovered Prof. Howard's connections to Umbrella and became caught up in a fight with his son, Tyler. The two agreed to work together in order to bring an end to the incident before engaging with Prof. Howard himself.

After dispatching a Tyrant infused with the new 't' strain, Chris, Piers, Rebecca, Sophie and Tyler were forced to fight the true culprit of the outbreak: Mary Grey, a student at Philosophy who had gained unparalleled intelligence by adapting to the t-Virus over many years. Mary proclaimed her plans to "reset" the world, driven mad by the virus, only to soon mutate into a hideous form.

Chris delivered the killing blow to Mary, firing a rocket at her as he and the remaining survivors evacuated the campus by helicopter.

Marhawa Academy Outbreak (2012)Edit

"Most of the victims were just innocent kids...including her! "- Chris on the Marhawa Outbreak, and Nanan Yoshihara.

Prior to 2012, Chris Redfield became friends with bacteriologist and BSAA advisor Professor Doug Wright, a professor at Bennett University in Singapore.

In 2012, after a mission within Asia alongside Piers and BSAA Far East agent Merah Biji, Merah's inability to contact Doug led Chris to head an investigation into the Professor's whereabouts.

A visit to Bennett University revealed to Chris that Prof. Wright had traveled with his nephew Ricky Tozawa to the prestigious Marhawa Academy deep in Asia. Things only grew more suspicious when the group received a request from the father of Nanan Yoshihara, a Marhawa student since she had not contacted their family in nine months.

Unwilling to wait any longer, Chris and his partners decided to visit the academy, whether Gracia like it or not. But it was too late; the entire school has fallen into chaos, with zombies rampant throughout the academy. As Piers and Merah went to annihilate the zombies, Chris found the only survivors; Doug and his nephew Ricky Tozawa. The two found a letter from Gracia that an evacuation helicopter can be reached through the underground maintenance tunnels.

Chris brought Ricky to the aforementioned location with Piers, but Merah chose not to come with them, due to her current objective to apprehend the mutated Bindi Bergara, who was suspected as the attack's perpetrator. Chris advised her that they won't be able to bring down Bindi for now and she must retreat, but Merah disobeyed Chris's order by disabling her radio and fought Bindi.

Chris and Ricky headed to the underground tunnel, where they fought the mutated Nanan (now a Lepotica). Chris struggled to defeat her due to the C-Virus gas being triggered whenever he opened fire. It wasn't until Ricky activated the facilities ventilation system that he was able to slice Nanan to pieces with his knife.

Reuniting with Merah and Piers, Chris led the survivors to the helicopter before being attacked once more by Bindi. Forced into a brutal fight with Bindi, Chris and the others finally managed to obliterate the mutated student before he started up the helicopter. Unfortunately, Chris was only able to watch in horror as Merah sacrificed herself to protect Piers from what remained of Nanan, dying in Piers arms as they flew out from the academy.

Weeks later, Chris reflected on Ricky's sudden departure with Piers, unaware of the horrors to come.

Edonian Civil War (2012)Edit

"Finn... Hang in there. No, goddamn it!"

On December 24, 2012, Chris (now ranked as a Special Operations Unit Captain), Piers Nivans, and a group consisting of Ben Airhart, Carl Alfonso, Finn Macauley, and Andy Walker were dispatched into the Eastern European state of Edonia, where new B.O.W. species known as J'avo had been granted to the rebels in the midst of a civil war. After discussing their plan of attack, Chris provided words of encouragement to Finn, the rookie of the group, before moving out.

However, as they approached the point Two of Hearts, Chris and his team were ambushed by a troop of heavily armed J'avo, having their Armored Personnel Carries destroyed in the process. The situation became even worse when a massive Ogroman was suddenly released in the battlefield. As Chris and Piers faced the infected, Finn managed to use the remaining APC firepower to injure the giant creature, forcing it to flee.

After the conflict, Chris leads his team to Edonia City Hall. Alpha Team was forced to another battle as an injured BSAA member was found in the middle of the bridge that connected the Two of Hearts section to City Hall. Redfield proceeded to rescue his fellow soldier, as Piers provided cover fire. With Finn's help, Chris managed to rescue the injured soldier. Having crossed the bridge with the Alphas, Chris ordered Finn to blow up the construction in order to stop the incoming group of J'avo.

Eventually, Chris and his squad came across D.S.O. operative Sherry Birkin, whom Chris recognized from Claire's stories, and mercenary Jake Muller, who Sherry was tasked with protecting. Introductions, however, were cut short when the group was attacked by a duo of Ogromen (one was dispatched by a helicopter as the other from the Two of Hearts section returned). Chris and his squad teamed up with Jake and Sherry to defeat the creatures and brought in a helicopter to take Jake and Sherry to their destination. Before they departed, Chris, believing that Jake looked familiar, asked if they had met, but Jake responded in the negative.

Making it to City Hall, the group encountered numerous Chrysalids and eventually a woman in a blue dress claiming to be Ada Wong, who told them that the B.O.W.s, including the J'avo, were created by the C-Virus and that an organization calling themselves Neo Umbrella were the ones that supplied the virus to the rebels. Though suspicious of her, Chris agreed to escort her out of the building, only to fall into a trap; "Ada" cut Chris and Piers off from the rest of the group and trapped the other four in a cage before launching a Needle Bomb that infected Andy, Carl, Ben, and Finn with the C-Virus.

Chris and Piers could only look on helplessly as their squad mates mutated into Chrysalids and hatched into Napads, which proceeded to attack. Chris was beaten senseless by the Napad that was once Finn Macauley, and had to be dragged to safety by Piers. The duo was saved by BSAA support troops who killed their mutated comrades,[21] and an unconscious Chris was taken to a nearby hospital.

AmnesiaEdit

Upon regaining consciousness in the hospital, Chris suffered from post-traumatic amnesia, unable to remember who he was or what had occurred. However, wracked by an overwhelming and inexplicable guilt, Chris ran away from the hospital before anyone could come to check on him.[22]

For the next six months, hoping to dull the pain, Chris became a moody and violent drunk, staying in a hotel and frequenting a bar in Eastern Europe, where the female bartender and patrons took to calling him "the stray dog" and gained a reputation as the bar's worst customer. Chris also made some money to fund his rent and bar tab by doing bodyguard work. All the while, Piers, and the BSAA worked to track him down.[22]

In June of 2013, Chris, now a mere shadow of his former self, was finally tracked down by Piers at the bar he frequented. When asked to leave by the bartender he refused, another patron stepped in to help her, only for Chris to snap and physically attack the man, nearly hitting him with a beer bottle before Piers stepped in. After expressing his disgust at how far Chris had fallen, Piers forced Chris to confront his past by showing him images of their deceased comrades and the tragedy in Edonia, to little avail. However, when Chris recognized the BSAA logo on Piers' jacket, all of the bar's patrons revealed themselves to be BSAA operatives in disguise, while Piers told Chris that he belonged with him and they were taking him back to duty by any means necessary.[23]

Lanshiang Incident (2013)Edit

"A witness?! She's the one who did all this!"

RE6 Lanshiang Chris

Chris in Lanshiang.

Though still unable to recall the incident, Chris agreed to come back and was quickly dispatched to Waiyip, in the Chinese province of Lanshiang, which was in the midst of another Neo Umbrella bioterror attack. The mission was to raid a building in the point Ace of Spades, where a few captured UN members had been held hostage by bioterrorists. Crossing the streets, Alpha Team immediately came into contact with J'avo, the same type of B.O.W. fought in Edonia. Approaching the Ace of Spades through the roofs, Chris and his squad managed to neutralize the incoming infected.

Once inside the building, the hostages were released. However, BSAA's HQ ordered an air strike to the area, as Chris and Piers barely make it out alive. Upon seeing a cluster of Chrysalids, Chris finally recalled the Edonia incident, and, enraged, vowed to get revenge on "Ada" for the deaths of his men. On their way, a BSAA soldier was attacked by an invisible monster. Chris decided to chase the creature and put it down.

They soon encountered Jake and Sherry, who had gone missing since Edonia, and protected them from swarms of J'avo; however, when Piers suggested that they escort the two, Chris coldly reminded him of their mission and departed. Making their way through the slums of Waiyip's Poisawan district, they were attacked by the Iluzija, a massive snake B.O.W. with camouflage capabilities. The abomination brutally killed all of them, one by one, until only Piers, Marco Rose and Chris himself were left. With the assistance of his fellow soldiers, Chris managed to fry the monster using the building's electrical system. Unfortunately, "Ada" reappeared and shot Marco with a C-Virus-equipped dart before escaping. Marco rapidly mutated into a Gnezdo, forcing Chris and Piers to kill him.

Afterward, when Chris expressed his frustration, Piers angrily told him that they could have prevented some of their squad's deaths if he hadn't been so focused on vengeance, and when he went so far as to accuse Chris of forgetting their mission and state that he felt sorry for "all the men who died believing in [him]," Chris snapped and they briefly came to blows, ending when Piers remarked that he was glad Finn wasn't around to see him like this. Nonetheless, they continued on.

Chris and Piers were later ambushed by a helicopter in the Waiyip river, though they managed to destroy the armored vehicle. Seeing "Ada" enter a warehouse, Chris and Piers entered in pursuit of her, unaware that Leon S. Kennedy and Helena Harper were doing the same. Though they managed to corner her, Leon arrived just in time and prevented Chris from shooting her, resulting in a brief fight between the two before they drew their guns on each other.

Leon told Chris that "Ada" was a key witness and that they needed her alive, while Chris shouted that "Ada" was the actual mastermind behind everything, only to be told by Leon that the real culprit was none other than national security advisor Derek C. Simmons. Though Chris told Leon that he lost all of his men because of "Ada," Leon replied that he lost over 70,000 people, including President Adam Benford, because of Simmons, and made it clear that he planned on defending "Ada" despite full knowledge of her allegiance to Neo Umbrella.

In the midst of the confrontation, "Ada" used a Flash Grenade to escape from the four. Chris and Piers began to pursue her, but Leon stopped Chris and told him that they both wanted the same thing. Finally snapping out of his revenge-fueled rampage, Chris resolved to stop "Ada" in the name of justice rather than vengeance, leaving it up to Leon and Helena to take care of Simmons.

Chris and Piers pursued "Ada" to the docks in a turret-equipped Jeep, managing to get on her freighter and corner her on the bridge, where "Ada" revealed her master plan: to spread the C-Virus all over the world and recreate the Raccoon City Incident on a global scale. However, just as she told them this, one of Simmons' henchmen arrived in a helicopter and promptly shot her in the chest, causing her to fall to her death. However, she left behind her suitcase, which contained a syringe full of an enhanced strain of the C-Virus.

Chris and Piers subsequently learned that a nearby ship was equipped with airburst missiles filled with the C-Virus in gas form, aimed right at the mainland. Hijacking a jet, they attacked the freighter, but were ultimately unable to stop the missile launch, which quickly turned most of the city of Tatchi's population into zombies. Afterward, Chris was contacted by Leon, who requested that he save Jake and Sherry from their imprisonment in Neo Umbrella's underwater facility. During this conversation, Chris was shocked to discover that not only did Jake possess antibodies to the C-Virus, he was Albert Wesker's son.

Making their way to the facility, Chris decided to retire from active duty after they rescued Jake and Sherry and pass his position on to Piers. When they met up with them, Chris revealed that he was the one who killed Jake's father, leading to a tense moment in which Jake held him at gunpoint. Chris admitted that he had every right to shoot him, but Jake managed to stop himself, telling Chris that there were more important things at stake than the two of them.

On their way out, however, the ultimate B.O.W. HAOS which was meant to spread the C-Virus all over the world as Carla intended, hatched from its cocoon and attacked. As Jake and Sherry made their escape, Chris and Piers remained behind to destroy HAOS. During the fight, HAOS severely damaged the facility and managed to grab a hold of Chris, while Piers suffered a severe injury that crippled his right arm. With no other way to save Chris, Piers deliberately injected himself with the C-Virus strain they had previously procured, gaining the ability to shoot electrical blasts. Now fully regenerated, HAOS broke out of its chrysalid and attacked the two agents. However, its decreased size and vulnerability allowed Piers to shoot electrical attacks that enabled Chris to equip his combat knife and attack its vulnerable organs which badly damaged the creature. It made a final attempt to kill Piers but Chris was able to rescue him and the two of them destroyed the B.O.W.s remaining organ, supposedly killing it.

Though Chris repeatedly reassured Piers that he would be all right and they would get out of there as they made their way to the escape pods, Piers, realizing that he would eventually lose control and mutate completely, deliberately shut Chris into an escape pod alone and launched him out, remaining behind to die with the facility.

However, HAOS had recovered and attacked Chris' escape pod in the water, only to be electrocuted and finally destroyed by an electrical blast from Piers' transformed arm just before the facility exploded. The following morning, Chris was rescued by the BSAA.

AftermathEdit

"All right. Better get to it, then."

Chrisepilogue

Chris heading to his next mission

Chris continued to serve in the BSAA as a field Captain, deciding to honor Piers' memory by turning down his retirement. At one point, he went back to the same bar he routinely visited in June, though now able to remember his identity and having overcome his drinking problem. A BSAA soldier under his command interrupted his meal, informing him that HQ had new orders for them.[24]

Sonido de Tortuga Incident Edit

In 2014, a year after the events of Lanshiang, Chris returned to active duty. He received a phone call from Claire asking for backup, but was unable to assist due to being on a mission with the BSAA in the Mojave desert. He instead sent a team lead by Parker Luciani to Sonido de Tortuga Island to help his sister.

Glenn Arias and the New York Outbreak Edit

Chris vendetta

Chris ordering his men to enter Glenn's mansion.

Following the events of Lanshiang, Chris was brought in to supervise a sting by the Mexican government against wanted weapons dealer Glenn Arias, rumored to be in possession of B.O.W.s, and to rescue missing BSAA operative Kathy White and her son, Zack, who had both vanished in the midst of pursuing Arias.

Upon arriving at a seemingly abandoned mansion in Querétaro, Chris and the team were ambushed by hordes of zombies, including Zack, before Chris witnessed a strange new mutation from a bitten soldier. Forced to retreat, Chris jumped out of a window on the second floor of the mansion, only to come face to face with Arias. As Chris was badly injured due to the fall, Arias quickly disarmed Redfield and was able to overpower him in hand-to-hand combat before introducing the now-zombified Kathy, who seemed to only attack Chris, while avoiding Glenn and his allies. While Chris was soon rescued by a BSAA unit, he swore revenge against Arias, devastated by the loss of the unit. His mission to stop Arias soon brought him his team to New York City, where he rescued Rebecca Chambers from an outbreak of the same virus from Mexico. Rebecca explained that the mysterious virus contained traits similar to the Las Plagas parasite used by Los Iluminados, leading Chris to take her in order to meet Leon S. Kennedy in Colorado.

Chris argued with a drunk and defeated Leon to ask for his help, as Rebecca managed to convince Leon to provide some intel about the Los Illuminados. Patricio, the man who sold Leon's unit, arrived just in time and is interrogated by Chris and Leon. Suddenly, Maria Gomez and Diego Gomez attacked them. Rebecca is kidnapped in the process, and a mortally wounded Patricio dies after tell Leon to protect his family. As the new threat outcomes, threatening the lives of New York populace and Rebecca himself, Leon agrees to join Redfield in his mission to bring down Arias.

Chris leads his platoon to New York City, briefing his mission objectives to his unit: stop the virus spread in the city, rescue Rebecca and eliminate Arias. As they departed in the city, Chris and Leon took an armored Humvee and a Ducati, respectively, both vehicles provided by the BSAA. The two battle their way to Arias, blowing the trucks with has the virus inside. During the attack, Damien is killed by a pair of Cerberus. Leon leads the dogs away in his motorcycle as Chris rushes to Arias' base. Entering the hideout, Chris is contacted by Arias who tells him about the improved A-Virus strain Rebecca was recently infected with and even asks Chris if he has the courage to put her down if it ever comes to it.

After that, Arias unleashes a horde of zombies to deal with Chris but it ended up being a failed attempt. During this battle, Chris proficiently made use of his marksman and hand-to-hand combat skills, completely annihilating the first horde of the infected before the arrival of Leon S. Kennedy.

Chris then made his way to the laboratory where Rebecca was being held, killing two mercenaries and confronting Diego in the process. Chris sustained two heavy blows from Diego but managed to come out on top thanks to a flame grenade he used as a last resort. He then proceeded to threaten the doctor with his Beretta 93R who quickly spilled the beans about the location of the vaccine.

After learning what he needed to know, Chris grabbed Rebecca and carried her up to the rooftop, only to be surprised by Glenn Arias who was monitoring Chris' progress through his cameras. Both men proceeded to open fire on each other but failed to land a clean hit due to both of them being in a cover position.

Chris then took the initiative to leave his cover position and confront Arias. As soon as they came face to face, they engaged in a close quarters battle that involved both a gunfight and hand-to-hand combat.

The fight revolved around both of them dodging each other's bullets, performing takedowns, disarms and even using their hand-to-hand combat skills. Notable features from Chris were his Judo takedowns and how he proficiently disarmed Arias at point blank range. At some point, Arias managed to grab a hold of Chris' combat knife and they both engaged in a Filipino/Kali knife fighting sequence with Arias in the offensive position and Chris in the defensive, Chris eventually managed to disarm Arias by applying a shoulder block takedown. After that, they landed on a glass roof thanks to Chris' shoulder block but Arias reverted the situation with a bodyslam which made him fall on top of Chris but was instantly repelled by a knee strike from Chris.

They instantly got up to their feet and proceeded to face each other in pure hand-to-hand combat. Arias was able to get the upper hand for a few seconds by landing a few punches on Chris but that still wasn't enough to defeat Chris who quickly outlined that unfavorable situation and applied a Sumi Gaeshi Judo throw, causing Arias to go through the glass and falling to his inevitable death. After winning the fight against Arias, Chris made his way back to Rebecca and told her that she was going to be fine because he was going to find the vaccine.

However, Diego approached Arias in his dying state and triggered his final stage and both of them became one, resulting in a Tyrant-like mutation. The creature ambushed Chris while he was carrying Rebecca but the captain was unable to avoid its grasp due to being extremely tired from the fights against both Diego and Arias. Lucky for him, Leon appeared and saved his life and eventually managed to get the creature's attention while Chris went to look for the vaccine to save Rebecca.

Leon was unable to be a match for the creature despite successfully dodging its attacks in the beginning of the encounter. However, the creature grabbed a hold of Leon just like it did with Chris but the agent was saved by the BSAA member Nadia who shot the mutant with a railgun. The creature then turned its attention to the aircraft and attacked it. As a last resort, Leon used the Ducati in an attempt to finish off Ariego but that merely slowed it down and the creature still lived but, lucky for everyone, Chris appeared at the nick of time and shot a grenade at the creature's heart, obliterating it completely.

After yet another successful mission, Chris, Leon, Rebecca, Nadia and DC proceeded to spread the vaccine around New York, curing the recently infected citizens who then turned back to normal. In the end, they all smiled back at each other and the New York City bioterrorist attack was over with the majority of the city's population being saved.

Dulvey Incident (2017) Edit

Not A Hero - Screenshot 4-3840x1920

Chris Redfield contacting Veronica before heading to the salt mines.

Shortly before July 2017, Blue Umbrella asked the BSAA to send Chris for assistance for upcoming missions in Dulvey, Louisiana, which he begrudgingly accepts as he doesn't fully trust them.[25] The goal of the mission was to apprehend Lucas Baker, a suspected associate of the criminal organization The Connections, who was in possession of the Mold bioweapon.

Just as his unit arrives at the Baker residence, they witnessed the B.O.W. known as Eveline as her mutated form erupted from the house and attack civilian Ethan Winters. Chris's team then assisted Ethan by dropping him a Albert-01 handgun loaded with Ramrods to finish the monster off. After the battle, Chris had Ethan and his also rescued wife, Mia evacuated via helicopter.

Chris continues the operation and looks for a missing unit in the salt mine and to pursue Lucas. Although Chris soon found the first missing soldier, he was attacked by Lucas, who attached a plastic explosive to Chris's arm shortly before detonating another explosive in order to kill the hostage. Instead of turning back to remove the bomb, Chris continues on and Umbrella gets confirmation of Lucas contacting The Connections.

Throughout Chris’ exploration, he encounters the the WM series of Molded, locates the other two missing operatives but Lucas has them both killed by traps, then sets off the timer on Chris’ bomb. With the help of HQ, Chris finds liquid nitrogen to freeze the bomb and disposes of it.

HQ suggests to Chris to check beyond a shield door, where once inside, Lucas locks Chris in and sets it on fire. Unbeknownst to Lucas, Chris was able to survive the trap, and Umbrella intercepts his email to The Connections informing them he’s about to send the data, which they Chris he must prevent from happening. Now with the element of surprise, Chris catches up to Lucas who attacks him with a knife, which forces Chris to shoot him which triggered Lucas' mutation into a large monster. This meant Chris had no choice but to kill him, and after a short battle Chris was able to eliminate Lucas once. He then he shot Lucas' hard drives to prevent the data transfer, and was called back to Umbrella's local base camp.

At an undisclosed time, Ethan requested that Chris search for Zoe Baker to save her. Weeks later, Chris responds to Umbrella forces calling for backup at a base they set up in the Baker's yard. His team arrived to find the unit wiped out but Zoe safe with her uncle, Joe Baker. After moving everyone to a lab tent, Chris calls Ethan inform him of Zoe's rescue and hands the phone to her so the two can reconnect.

Personality and RelationshipsEdit

Chris is fiercely protective of his friends and family, specifically with his younger sister Claire and his partner Jill Valentine, both of whom he would give his life to protect. He also tended to establish bonds with the people he worked with or their respect (Rebecca and Wesker, for example), often leading to mutual respect and admiration. Chris cares greatly for the life of innocents, something that caused him to argue with his superiors in the military.

Though he was renowned for his marksmanship and piloting skills, the same could not be said for his organization: his desk in Raccoon City's police department was usually in a state of cluttered disarray.

According to Claire in Revelations 2, Chris was a bossy older brother in his youth, though he only did so to protect her. Claire still had trouble with his stern command, and empathized with Moira Burton when she complained about her father Barry doing the same. Chris is still protective of Claire and rushes to her rescue on Rockfort Island when Leon tells him of her danger and gives up attacking when Wesker holds her hostage. It's also partly due to Claire's safety that Chris asks Barry to join Terrasave to keep an eye on her.

Chris has a long-standing friendship with Barry Burton, who was an old friend of Chris' family. Barry was the one who recruited him for the Special Tactics And Rescue Service after Chris left the Air Force and began drifting.

Serving as Point Man in S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, Chris earned the trust of his comrades. In particular, Chris developed a close friendship with Jill Valentine, the only female member of S.T.A.R.S. at the time. Forest Speyer, the sharpshooter of the Bravo Team, was once a great friend (and rival) of Chris, until the Mansion Incident, where Forest was brutally killed and turned into a zombie.

After the Mansion Incident, Chris became obsessed with the Umbrella Corporation, seeking information to bring the company down and avenge the deaths of his friends. Later, Chris and Jill formed a deadly alliance to fight Umbrella together, the BSAA.

During their time in S.T.A.R.S., Chris developed great respect for the team's leader, Albert Wesker, who also considered Chris to be his best team member. However, after Wesker betrayed the team and Chris subsequently foiled his plans, the two became fierce enemies, with a powerful grudge against one another.

However, during the Il Veltro incident, Chris was shown as a generic typical "soldier", focusing only on the mission and ignoring all of Jessica, his partner's advances. When asked whether he trusted her or not, he remarked "Trust is measured by actions, not words" which Jessica replies "That's so like you Chris. It's always about the job, isn't it?" He also has a level of professionalism; he never once berated Jessica for her flirting and just focused on the mission. However, when Jill was in danger, he quickly switched focus completely onto rescuing her.

During a BSAA mission to capture Oswell E. Spencer, Jill sacrificed herself to save Chris from Wesker, while he could do nothing to protect Jill. Jill's perceived death was a very serious blow to Chris personally. Following that encounter, he grew distant and cold in response to the emotional and psychological scarring. It also psychologically scarred him such as when Wesker opened the bomber door and Sheva was almost pulled out to her death, he had a flashback to Jill's "death" and how he was unable to do anything and almost didn't grab Sheva's hand to save her. This made him impulsively/instinctively endanger himself to not repeat the same mistake with Sheva.

In RE5 proper, Chris initially shows a cold acceptance toward most of the grisly circumstances presented in the mission and shows little concern for its location or who he'll be working with. Immediately after meeting Sheva, she asks him if he'd "rather be in America than in a place like this". Chris dismisses the notion, noting that America "has its own dark side". She notes his lack of patriotism, and Chris merely states that he's a realist, noting that America is "a capitalist society" and that "not everyone is cut out for that kind of pressure". He considers that there are opportunities to be had, but as far as he sees it, "at a price". "If you gain, someone else loses," He concludes. When Sheva says that he doesn't sound like any American that she's ever met, he points out that the great thing about Americans is that "we're all different".

Following the battle with the first Uroboros B.O.W. he and Sheva encountered, Chris comments that if they had arrived sooner to assist DeChant and the rest of Alpha Team, they would most likely be dead as well. A substantial part of his driving force during this time is seeking out Jill after he receives intel. That she may still be alive. Sheva has doubts about his "personal stake" in the mission, but later appreciates how much he cares for his old partner. With this, Sheva developed a close bond to Chris, decided to stay fighting alongside him in order to help him save Jill and take down Wesker.

In episode one of the Resident Evil 5 viral campaign, entitled 'Ceremony', Chris is receiving an award for his courageous performance in Kijuju. However, he is hindered from delivering his speech by a sudden onset of violent memories from his mission. This could be taken as an indicator of post-traumatic stress disorder, which could possibly plague Chris after the events of Resident Evil 5.

Chris' reactions to the various threats he's faced vary over the years change with his experience. During his initial encounters with zombies and B.O.W.s in the Spencer Mansion, he was angered that it was all set up by Wesker (though in truth, the outbreak was caused by James Marcus; Wesker simply took advantage of the situation). Following the events at Rockfort Island and the Antarctic Facility, Chris begins to categorize people like Albert Wesker into simple criminal personalities, refusing to acknowledge their views and immediately dismissing them as evil. This is most apparent during his first encounter with Sergei Vladimir, where he refers to him as "another Umbrella psycho", despite the latter's various machinations since before the Mansion incident. Chris then views Wesker's world plan in Kijuju with the same disdain. After he and Sheva board Wesker's stealth bomber, he is even sarcastic about the serious implications of Wesker's ambitions, going so far as to mock Wesker for taking his plans from "comic book villains" and dismissing him as "just another of Umbrella's leftovers."

By the time Wesker is killed, Chris is confident that living in a world without fear is worth fighting for, and the cause of combating bioterrorism exceeds all personal costs. He also decided to teach his experiences to younger generations due to the fact that someone like Wesker might come around again.

During the events of Resident Evil 6, Chris shows deep concern for his teammates under his command. He is very quick to assure rookie BSAA operative, Finn Macauley, that his teammates have his back and that "No one gets left behind." He treats his team like his family while trying to be an inspiration to them as much as possible and shows anger when his men die in the line of duty. This was further shown when Leon confronts him and prevents him from killing Carla, which causes Chris to angrily state "I lost all my men because of her!". However, despite this and the fact he and Leon haven't interacted much in person, he did seem to respect Leon highly as Leon was the only one able to snap Chris out of his vengeful rampage. This respect for Leon is likely due to him protecting his sister Claire in the Raccoon City incident.

During the events in Lanshiang, Chris' focus was entirely on catching Carla, and his reckless pursuit of her cost the lives of several of his men. Chris calmed down somewhat after being confronted by Piers and regained most of his composure after his heated standoff with Leon. Due to the many years of battles against Umbrella's legacy, Chris revealed to his partner his intention to retire from duty, stating that he "cannot let this war follow him". Chris resolved that his final mission would be to rescue Jake, and asked that Piers take his place, despite his partner's lack of confidence in his ability to succeed him.

When confronting Jake Muller for the first time, he notes something familiar about him, noting the features from Albert Wesker. Months later when saving him, he learned that Jake is Wesker's son and allows Jake to fire at him for killing his father, though he misses on purpose stating that there are more important things at stake. When asked why he revealed this to Jake, Chris states that he has every right to know what happened to his father, no matter what grudge he has against Wesker.

At the end of Chris' campaign in Resident Evil: 6, Piers Nivans, his second-in-command, sacrificed his life for him by injecting himself with the C-Virus that they got from Carla in order to save his captain from Haos. After they supposedly defeated the creature, Chris tried to take him with him into the escape pod. However, Piers refused, and gave Chris his BSAA. badge before pushing him into the pod. Chris ordered his lieutenant to open the door, but Piers refused. As the escape pod drifted into the sea, Chris saw the underwater facility collapse and Haos break free once more. As the monster latched onto Chris' pod, though, it was electrocuted by a powerful jolt of electricity resembling the type Piers was seen wielding, suggesting that he saved his captain's life again.

This left Chris the only surviving member of his team by the conclusion of the Lanshiang Incident, still shocked by the deaths of his fellow soldiers. Nevertheless, he decided to honor his fallen comrades and the final wishes of his second-in-command, and continue his duty fighting against bioterrorism and for a better future.

In Resident Evil 7's Not A Hero DLC, players witness lingering remnants of Chris' animosity against the Umbrella Corporation, as he notably expresses his reluctance to work with the supposedly reformed Blue Umbrella. Chris also briefly wonders if he and Umbrella had really done any good at the Baker residence, and ponders on whether or not more victims of Mold would be claimed.

Skills and AbilitiesEdit

Chris is proficient with many types of weapons, particularly handguns, shotguns and sniper rifles. The top sharpshooter in S.T.A.R.S., he once won a shooting tournament against his rival, Forest Speyer. His accuracy, precision, and focus are top-notch, enabling him to hit long-distance targets accurately. Chris' exceptional shooting stance grants him full control over his weapon's recoil, being able to re-target immediately after every shot. Chris even shows this ability while dealing with heavy weapons (such as the Remington Model 1100, a weapon known for its recoil powerful enough to knock a person back like it did to Leon during his time on Raccoon City.).

In addition to his weaponry skills, Chris is very tough as an unarmed combatant, having been trained in several techniques such as Close Quarters Combat (CQC) during his Air Force days. Throughout the series, Chris has shown skills from martial arts such as Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and more. He is a complete fighter that makes great use of punches, elbows, knee strikes and kicks as well as he's exceptionally good in grappling techniques.

He was also proficiently trained in Filipino Martial Arts when it comes to knives, knowing how to properly execute different grips suitable for the situations he's facing. Great examples are his abilities in RE6 where he executes a variety of knife strikes and is able to slash three consecutive times to deal massive damage on his enemies. With this, Chris may very well be the deadliest knife fighter in the series.

Chris also knows how to defend himself from knife-wielding attackers. During his final fight with Glenn Arias, Chris managed to press his forearm against Arias' wrist in order to effectively block his knife attack as well as he showed great reflexes to avoid getting stabbed by Arias.

After destroying Umbrella with Jill, Chris put himself through rigorous physical training to increase his physique, making him incredibly strong and resistant. He is capable of sending lesser enemies flying and able to bring the largest to their knees with a single punch. Such was the intensity of his training that he was eventually able to hold his own in hand-to-hand combat against the superhuman abilities of Albert Wesker (who had trounced Chris in previous encounters). Chris' strength also gave him the ability to punch a boulder several times his size (and weight) into lava during the final fight with Wesker. In RE6, Chris is capable of press-lifting enemies such as J'avos in order to throw them away. He can also use his bare hands to rip enemies apart or brutally impale them with their own severed tentacles.

While fighting Wesker, Chris also displays great feats of stamina, endurance and recovery abilities, as he is seen taking some of Wesker's most powerful hits without falling unconscious, immediately getting up to hold the fight to the end. In Resident Evil 6, Chris is brutally bludgeoned by a vicious Napad. Having sustained a series of blows to his chest, Chris survived with no major physical injury. This event, however, resulted in an induced amnesia due to Chris having his head bashed against the ground.

Chris is also very fast and agile, and his reflexes allow him to immediately respond to any incoming attack. He occasionally also shows some acrobatic feats: During a raid on Umbrella's base in Russia in The Umbrella Chronicles, he managed to evade a series of deadly lasers in a small corridor via a series of backflips. While facing Wesker, Chris was also shown to be able to move quickly to evade his deadly attacks, and even performing a side roll to avoid being shot. Another great example of Chris' athleticism was when he fell into one of the Ndipaya's traps but managed to perform a front flip in mid-air to land on his feet.

In order to ensure Claire's safety, Chris trained his young sister in combat techniques like using knives and firearms and unarmed combat. Though Claire never really wanted to become a fighter, she has managed to survive the infamous Raccoon City Outbreak by using Chris' combat techniques.

Chris's service in the Air Force has made him an incredibly talented pilot. He was S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team's co-pilot. In CODE: Veronica he pilots a Harrier in high blizzard winds. Later during Resident Evil 6, Chris pilots a VTOL and uses it to destroy a Neo Umbrella aircraft carrier. He is also an expert alpinist, as he was able to reach Rockfort Island by climbing its rocks despite the lack of a security gear. Chris may also have a certain understanding of mechanics; he is able to reactivate a missile and use it to blow down a bulkhead door during RE6. Like Piers, he also has a some knowledge in hacking doors, as was demonstrated when he and Piers were locked up in the prototype testing room.

Chris' skills and training always lead to him holding a high rank. He was chosen for S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team, and he was later chosen as a Special Operations Agent in the BSAA, later becoming a Special Operations Unit Captain.

Chris' abilities are so honed, despite having no memory of being in the BSAA, he was able to efficiently fight B.O.Ws lead the BSAA with just his fighting instincts and his muscle memory.

In the movie Resident Evil: Vendetta, Chris maintains his moves in the games during the fight against Glenn Arias when he encounters him twice. However, during their fight, Chris made more use of his Judo takedowns, one of which allowed Chris to win the fight and defeat Arias for good. He is the only character who can finish off the mutated Glenn with just a grenade launcher.
