The European Union is a supernational organization devoted to the equalisation of law and commerce on the European continent. Originally established as the European Economic Community trading bloc in Western Europe, it expanded into a continent-spanning superstate following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Consequently, membership into the EU became a valuable asset for the fledgling Eastern European republics. The Eastern Slav Republic made repeated efforts to join the EU in the late '00s, but was rejected due to a regional uprising.

A fictional body of the EU, the "Ministry of Foreign Affairs", was referred to in the English version of Resident Evil: Revelations as the "European Security Force".
