The T-001 prototype exhibited a number of negative characteristics which were seen as unsuitable for any mass-produced Ultimate Bio Weapon. Possibly created with a pre-ε strain of t-Virus, the T-001 had an exposed spinal column due to significant necrosis of tissue, which made it vulnerable to small arms fire.[1][excerpt 1] T-001 also exhibited a deterioration in both intelligence and its nervous system, which Umbrella USA believed to be caused by the initial viral load being too high and causing excessive mutation. The heart, believed to be its own, was also pushed out of the body and made exposed. Despite these setbacks, T-001 showed some promise as a bio-weapon prototype. When it combatted Wesker, it displaying superhuman strength, endurance and a limited recovery ability[2], and the Tyrant Project continued its research.[3][excerpt 2]
