Hand-to-Hand[]

JakeScreen18

Jake charging his Thrust Palm, targeting a J'avo.

The one thing that sets Jake apart from other characters is his unique hand-to-hand combat. Jake doesn't consume stamina in most of his attacks when at this stance. It appears in his weapons menu and must be equipped. Like all weapons, the ready weapon button must be held to perform his attacks. While using hand-to-hand combat, Jake utilizes a majority of open-palm strikes and some closed-fist punches and leg attacks. Jake's combat also incorporates some of the same moves as his father. His attacks are very powerful, usually capable of taking out a J'avo in one or two hits and are even able to interrupt the Ustanak's attacks. Following is a list of his unique hand-to-hand abilities and his contextual attacks.[notes 1]

Also, Jake's Physical Combat Gauge replenishes itself much faster if he is in his initial combo stance (Holding the ready button and attack button, but not releasing it.)

Combo 1[]

This is performed by holding the ready button and pressing the attack button three times. This combo requires no stamina.

  • Right Hook - A simple right hook fist attack.
  • Left Hook - A simple left hook fist attack.
  • Elbow Strike - A simple forward strike with the elbow.

Combo 2[]

This is performed by holding the ready button, then holding the attack button. Releasing the attack button will perform the first attack, and the combo can be continued by pressing the attack button. Tiger Uppercut, Sweep, and Ground Strike will each use up a bar of stamina.

  • Thrust Palm - Based on Wesker's attack, it is a rushing open-palm strike.
  • Tiger Uppercut - Based on Wesker's attack, it is an upward strike with an open-palm.
  • Cobra Strike - Based on Wesker's attack, it is a powerful forward open-palm strike.
  • Sweep - A simple spinning leg-sweep attack.
  • Ground Strike - A powerful finisher, performed by leaping into the air and strike the ground with a closed fist on the downward momentum. If there is only one enemy left in the vicinity, and they are downed, this attack will be used next in the combo regardless. If this attack connects with the enemy's head, it has a chance of crushing it.

Combo 3[]

This is performed by utilizing Quick Shots by tapping the ready and attack buttons simultaneously.Tiger Uppercut, Sweep, and Ground Strike will each use up a bar of stamina.

Combat Movement[]

  • Combat Movement 1 - When readying the hand-to-hand combat, Jake's movements change slightly. Instead of performing dive rolls and evading to the side, he will instead duck and sidestep.
  • Combat Movement 2 - When holding the attack button to charge the Thrust Palm, Jake can dive roll to the side again and perform back flips when he evades backwards. This can also be done shortly after performing a Thrust Palm, Tiger Uppercut, or Cobra Strike.

Miscellaneous[]

  • Continuous Thrust Palm - When preparing the Thrust Palm, Jake can perform a back flip (via Combat Movement 2). After Jake performs a dive roll to the side or a back flip, he will immediately perform a Thrust Palm afterwards. This means Jake can continuously link Thrust Palms together by performing a dive roll or back flip after each one. This costs no stamina and only ends when the player chooses to not perform Combat Movement 2 after an attack.
  • Flash Kick - When the enemy is grounded, if the player uses Jake's Thrust Palm to target them, he will instead perform this move on the downed target. Jake charges at them and performs a back flip kick, knocking them from the ground into the air.
    • Performing a Quick Shot against a flying enemy also makes Jake perform the Flash Kick. This can be done at any point of a combo.
  • Ground Strike - As noted above, if there is only one enemy left in the vicinity and that enemy is on the ground, Jake will perform this upon his next attack regardless of what point in the combo the player is at. The Ground Strike can be performed immediately under these conditions as well if the player simply performs a Quick Shot.

Contextual Attacks[]

  • Jumping Spinning Heel

Jake in the middle of his Spinning DDT.

    - A simple attack that has Jake jump into the air as he spins, sending a kick to a stunned enemy. This is most commonly performed on a staggering enemy from any side.
  • Spinning DDT - Jake leaps forward, putting the head of the stunned enemy hooked under his arm as he spins around and swiftly drops back, smashing the enemy's head into the ground. This is most commonly performed on the front of lightly stunned enemy.
  • Suplex - Identical to Leon's Suplex from Resident Evil 4, Jake wraps his arms around an enemy when from behind and lifts them up and back, slamming their head into the ground. This is most commonly performed on an unaware, kneeling, or severely stunned enemy from behind.

Jake with his foot raised for his Windfall.

  • Windfall - For Jake's coup de grâce, he lifts his leg straight up and brings his foot down on the enemy, forcing them to the ground. This is much like Wesker's Windfall attack, except Wesker performed this as a finisher on a downed enemy. (though he had a similar attack in Resident Evil 4 that could be performed on a Ganado shot in the leg, which was called "Chikyo Chagi".)  This is most commonly performed on a severely stunned, kneeling, or blinded enemy. This attack also occurs as the prompt to rescue a partner who has been grabbed by an enemy.
  • Giant Swing - When an enemy is on the ground, Jake will grab both legs under his arms and spin the enemy around once before throwing them. The thrown enemy can damage other enemies they fly into. This can only be performed when Jake has his hand-to-hand equipped.
