Elizabeth Jane Case,[1] otherwise known as K-Mart, was a refugee of the global T-virus pandemic. She lived for a time in Claire Redfield's convoy operating around the Mojave Desert before moving to Alaska. Her status is unknown following Umbrella's assault on Arcadia.

Biography[]

Following the collapse of the United States as a result of the pandemic, Case found herself joining a refugee convoy led by Claire Redfield. Having never liked her birth name, Case forwent it and went by the nickname of "K-Mart". Due to a scarcity and the dangers of cities, convoys remained small in size and raided stores and gas stations for supplies. Large towns and cities were avoided due to their propensity for danger, and convoys continued travelling to avoid their smell luring out the Undead. Over time these supplies dwindled, and life became harder. Case's responsibilities in the convoy are not elaborated upon, though she regularly say in a 2003 Hummer H2 alongside Redfield.[2]

In the morning after a stop-over at the Desert Trail Motel, the convoy was harassed by a murder of infected crows. Case, one of the first to wake, alerted the others via radio, but stray noises sent them into a frenzy as they began smashing into windows. Eight were lost in the attack, which ended only with the arrival of Alice, a rogue mutant created by Umbrella who had developed strong pyrokinetic abilities. Case bonded with Alice, and took her side when she suggested the convoy migrate to Alaska where she believed the hostile Winter climates had prevented the Undead from taking it over.[2]

Ahead of their migration to Alaska, the convoy drove through Las Vegas, where the goal was to take as much fuel as they could to support the drive. The group, unaware, had drawn themselves into a trap set by rogue Umbrella staff. While the convoy itself was known to HQ and not deemed a threat, Dr. J. Isaacs transported a container full of Super Undead to the city, intent on killing everyone so Alice would no longer be protected. Case was immediately put at risk, and sent out to the REO M-35 for safety, killing a Super Undead with a shotgun as he attempted to break-in. Another passenger, however, L.J., turned into an Undead while inside and attacked her, instead mauling Carlos Olivera who came to her aid.[2]

Following the incident less than a dozen from the convoy were left alive, but having tracked Umbrella's helicopters to a base, they left it up to Olivera and Alice to stage an assault that would allow them to commandeer a helicopter. The attack was a success, and Case and the others boarded, leaving Alice alone on request.[2]

Arcadia[]

After an unknown period of travel, Redfield's convoy reached the Alaskan coastline by helicopter. While the vegetation proved life was viable there, they found themselves at a graveyard for abandoned aircraft brought over by other refugees over the years. Soon the group were ambushed by Umbrella employees linked to Arcadia, a research vessel which regularly travelled up and down the Pacific coast, luring refugees to them to participate in experiments. Case was put into an induced coma and placed in a container to keep her alive perpetually. After several months to several years, Arcadia made its way down to Los Angeles where it anchored as bait for others. It was during this visit that the ship was attacked by Albert Wesker, a mutant Umbrella board member who had been severely-wounded in the Tokyo incident months prior. While on board Wesker killed and ate the crew, as well as several test subjects. His bloodthirst was ended following a confrontation with Alice, Redfield and her brother Chris, and Case and the others were rescued from their containers.[3] Subsequently, the ship was attacked by an Umbrella security force, with many being killed or taken captive. While it is known Redfield was captured and taken to their prison complex near Raccoon City, Case is believed to have been killed.[4]
