Mail to Chris, known in the original script as Investigation Report Addressed to Chris (クリスあての調査報告書 Kurisu-ate no chōsa hōkoku-sho?), is a file that can be found in Resident Evil 2. It also appears in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles as United States Federal Police Department Internal Investigation Report.

The location of the file in Resident Evil 2.

In Resident Evil 2, the file can only be obtained by Claire after visiting the S.T.A.R.S. office on the second floor of the R.P.D. for the first time. Upon attempting to leave the room, a fax machine in the office will ring and print the document.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles[]

In The Darkside Chronicles, the file is obtained during the Memory of a Lost City 6 scenario. After exiting the A-2 elevator, Leon and Claire will enter a hallway where they encounter an Ivy. Before turning the corner to the right, shoot the very last control panel on the left wall to reveal the file.

Mr. Chris Redfield
Raccoon City Police Dept.
S.T.A.R.S division

As per your request, we have conducted our internal investigation and discovered the following information:

1) Regarding the G-virus currently under development by Umbrella Inc.

So far it is unconfirmed that the G-virus even exists. We're continuing with our investigation

2) Regarding Mr. Brian Irons, Chief of Raccoon City Police Dept.

Mr.Irons has allegedly received a large sum of funds in bribes from Umbrella Inc. over the last five years. He was apparently involved in the cover up of the mansion lab case along with several other incidents in which Umbrella appears to have direct involvement.
Mr.Irons had been arrested under suspicion of rape on two separate counts during his years as a university student. He underwent psychiatric evaluation as a result of the charges but was released due to circumstantial evidence as well as his phenomenal academic standing.

As such, extreme caution is advised when dealing with him.

Further Notes[]

  • To date, the version of the report in Resident Evil 2 is the only official translation to accuse Irons of rape. Information from the file has been used in the Brian Irons Profile found in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and the Brian Irons profile in The Darkside Chronicles, both of which instead citing domestic abuse against his wife during his college years, and the report itself when it reappeared in Darkside Chronicles also omits the paragraph detailing his rape charges altogether.
    • Similarly, it is also the only file in the localized version of Resident Evil 2 to directly allude to Irons having a history of violence against women, as the file Secretary's diary A omits the gender of the subject of a painting in the third entry outside Japan.
  • The file refers to itself as coming from the United States Federal Police Department. This is presumably a translation error, as no such organization exists (there are numerous federal law enforcement agencies). Likely, this was intended to represent the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
