Skill Points are points in Resident Evil 6 that can be used to upgrade your character and weapons by purchasing Skills. This mechanic is similar to the money systems in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 in that you use it to purchase upgrades. Like the monetary systems, points are found as items from broken boxes and as items dropped from enemies. The items found for skill points are based upon chess pieces, ranging from small, simple silver pieces to larger pieces that are gold and filled with jewels.

Skill Points are used to customize the character primarily by purchasing Skills, but its through this character customization that you can technically upgrade weapons. Examples of upgrades of included increased weapon damage, increased melee damage, increased accuracy, and increased damage to zombies. Skill Points can also be used to buy Skills for use of your creature in Agent Hunt.

The amount of Skill Points dropped by enemies is the same throughout all Campaign difficulty settings with the exception of No Hope where the total you amount you gain at the end is doubled.

Helping or thanking a partner for help will result in player (or both players while in co-op) being given extra Skill Points depending on how quickly they reacted.
