The Fuji T-7 was a model of aircraft which had just entered service in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force in the days leading up to the 2002 global T-virus pandemic. One model survived the country's collapse, and was used by Janus Prospero to escape Japan after surviving an Osprey crash in Aokigahara Forest. Taking it to Alaska, Janus then traveled with Claire Redfield to Los Angeles, California.
The T-7 was not considered safe to fly in the cold Alaskan weather, so another plane suited for the weather was used for flying shots in Alaska. The T-7 was then edited in. This was explained by Paul W.S. Anderson in the film's DVD commentary.
