Grenade Rounds are the ammunition used for Grenade Launcher weapons. There are many types of Grenade Rounds, each with different properties and effects. The fired grenades usually travel in a fairly realistic ballistic arc, with a relatively short range compared to bullet-based firearms. Grenade rounds are relatively rare items, but still more common than Magnum ammunition.
Grenades are found in batches of six triangular olive-green containers. The color of the lid differentiate the type of grenade round: Gray, Yellow, Red, Green, and Blue (Explosive, Acid, Flame, Anti-B.O.W. Gas, and Nitrogen).
Resident Evil, RE Zero, RE5, and RE6 deviate from the regular arc ballistics; grenades fly in a straight line, though they retain a fairly slow speed. In RE5 the grenade itself maintains enough force to knock back a target and shatter wooden shields.
In RE5, grenade rounds can be bought at the inventory menu. While in both RE5 and RE6, grenade rounds are found in ammunition boxes, usually colored for the type of the round.

List of Grenade Round Types Edit
Here is a list of grenades and the games in which they are available.
RE0, RE1, RE2, RE3, RE:S, RE:CV, RE:DA, RE5, RE6 These are basic grenades, relatively common and possessing average damage. In some of the games, they fragment after launch, damaging groups of enemies while knocking over larger B.O.W.s. These grenades, if a fragmenting type, often have the shortest range but tend to be quite common. Otherwise, they detonate on impact. In Resident Evil 3, these grenades can be used as a base to create some of the more powerful varieties below.
RE0, RE1, RE2, RE3, RE:S, CV, RE5, RE7 Filled with napalm (comparable to jellied gasoline), these grenades are not always as powerful as Explosive Rounds but can ignite enemies and damage them further after the initial impact. Plant based B.O.W.s, such as Ivies, are particularly vulnerable to these. In Resident Evil Remake, they are quite valuable as they instantly cremate any normal zombie within the blast radius.
RE0, RE1, RE2, RE3, GS, CV, RE5, RE6 Grenades filled with a sulfuric acid. They generally have a yellow nose. Often, one of the more powerful grenades available to the player. Zombies will often melt altogether when shot with acid grenades, and Hunters are especially vulnerable to the rounds. In Resident Evil 5, they do not kill an enemy instantly, but generally stuns them and causes them to collapse. These are best used when surrounded. They are also effective against Lickers; One directly-hit round makes them vulnerable to an instant-kill heart stab. This will unlock the "Heart Stopper" achievement/trophy.
RE3, RE5, RE6 These are extremely powerful rounds that can in some cases freeze their target solid. In Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Nemesis is especially vulnerable to these. In Resident Evil 5, these rounds allow a one-hit kill against most types of enemies, but not bosses. A single nitrogen round into a body of water will rapidly freeze not only a part of the water, but any Majini that is in contact with it. Any frozen enemies can be shattered with additional gunfire or melee attacks. These rounds also appear in The Mercenaries, where they are used by Sheva on her Tribal costume, but not used on The Mercenaries 3D.
B.O.W. Gas RoundsEdit
CV These are extremely powerful and rare grenades; filled with a special anti-B.O.W. gas (P-Epsilon). Only three grenades can be found. They are specially useful in the battle against the B.O.W inside the plane. They are featured exclusively in Resident Evil CODE:Veronica, although the gas itself is utilized in Resident Evil 2. They were going to reappear in Resident Evil Outbreak, but were scrapped.
These are special rounds that can be purchased from the Item Management screen after being found in Chapter 5-3 in a room after exiting the laboratory. These are most effective against Reapers. A single round can also be used to electrify a part of a body of water, a technique that usually proves to be fatal to any Majini standing in it. These Rounds also appear in The Mercenaries, where they are used by Chris in his S.T.A.R.S costume, and in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, where they are used by Claire Redfield.
RE5 These are special rounds that can be purchased from the Item Management screen after being found in a chest near one of the moving statues in Chapter 4-1. They function like Flash Grenades; Blinding common enemies and instantly killing the Plaga. Per slot, more can be carried than hand tossed grenades, and they are more precise due to the straight-line nature of the rounds. These rounds are also used by Excella Gionne in The Mercenaries Reunion and HUNK in The Mercenaries 3D.
RE7 These rare rounds contain a powerful poison that affects the nervous system.
Resident Evil 3 Grenade CraftingEdit
In Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, you can create your own Grenade Ammo by mixing Gun Powder combinations with the Reloading Tool: - Gun Powder C: Explosive Rounds - Gun Powder AC: Flame Rounds - Gun Powder BC: Acid Rounds - Gun Powder CC: Freeze Rounds Special grenade rounds can also be created by mixing gunpowder combinations with Explosive Rounds.
The easier way to refine the different types of grenade rounds is to stockpile your Explosive Rounds you find through your exploration, instead of wasting C Gun Powder to craft them since a combination of 3 C Gun Powder (CCC Gun Powder) refines Magnum rounds.
- There is a glitch for the Resident Evil Remake that gives Jill Valentine lots of ammunition for any type of grenade ammo (This glitch is fixed in the PAL and Wii versions).
- If Nitrogen Rounds are selected in Resident Evil 5 it will display (ICE) right beside the Grenade Launcher in the inventory screen.
- Only three B.O.W. gas rounds are ever found in Resident Evil CODE:Veronica.
- In Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Freeze rounds could be called the most powerful of all the grenade rounds, due to the effect they have on Nemesis.
- In Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, you can get extra Freeze Rounds given to you by Carlos when choosing to "Jump Out of the Window" when the cable car is about to crash. He will give you the ammo, but will not help Jill in the fight against Nemesis in the entrance of the clock tower.
- ↑ A document can be found in the underground labs, as well as a computer program that will fill the facility with P-Epsilon. This puts zombies and Lickers to sleep but also makes the Ivy enemies poisonous.
