The Tragedy of Makoba Village
(1997 radio drama)

Harvey Simmons (ハーヴィ・シモンズ Hāvi Shimonzu?) was a Satanic cleric at Makoba Village.

Biography[]

Simmons was, until 1993, a Protestant minister resident in Raccoon City. After suffering a crisis of faith, Simmons became obsessed in Saint Havohej, the deity of a cult active in the Arklay Mountains, having read up on their activities by his great-grandfather's research. After completing his research, he moved to Makoba Village to live with the community, effectively keeping his wife Sarah and children Toby and Lorraine hostage in the hopes of brainwashing them. His familiarity with the cult's practices led to him becoming their cleric, and he gave sermons from the village church.[1]

In the Summer of 1998, Simmons took a group of twenty-three villagers into Raccoon Forest to gather Green Herbs for a ritual. When the group found a snake, they ritualistically drank its blood. Over the next month, the group began to develop symptoms of Cannibal Disease, but being unfamiliar with t-Virus believed this to be a curse brought upon them by Saint Havohej.[2] Consequently, little was done to stop the violence committed by the villagers, which escalated from domestic abuse in Simmons' case to cannibalistic homicide.

On 21 July, the violence in the village had escalated to the point it was no longer safe to walk around, and a number of survivors made their way into the church for safety.[3] Believing the disease to be a sign of their covenant with Saint Havohej, Simmons took pleasure in murdering two survivors, Curtis and Wilson, during the night while fully aware of his actions. When he discovered his two children hiding in a closet, he tried to expose them to the disease in the belief Saint Havohej would bless them as it had himself. During his efforts, he fought with S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine, who mortally wounded him with a shotgun.[1]
