"Ah! No! Get away from me!" — Kenneth to a zombie, before being eaten.[2]
Dr. Kenneth J. Sullivan (ケネス・J・サリヴァン,Kenesu Jei Sarivan?) was S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team's point man and in charge of reconnaissance and position security.[4] Kenneth also put his knowledge as a chemist to good use.[5] Although he was quiet and had a serious countenance, Kenneth had a gentle personality. As well as his role in S.T.A.R.S., his hobby was dog training and he was enthusiastic about landscape gardening with skill that put experts to shame.[6][notes 1]
The oldest member of S.T.A.R.S., Sullivan was selected for the team due to his Ph.D. in chemistry. However, despite being personally chosen by Albert Wesker, Kenneth persistently enquired as to why his scientific knowledge was needed in this role. Overall, despite his uncertainties, Sullivan's experience and his precise investigative skills would come to be considered to rival or be superior to that of Captain Enrico Marini, himself.[6][7] He was the only Bravo Team officer equipped with a video recording device during operations.[8]
Arklay Incident Investigation[]
On July 23, 1998, Bravo team was sent out into the Arklay Mountains within the Raccoon Forest, to investigate the cause of a number of animal attacks and cannibalistic homicides. Their helicopter would suffer engine failure, due to apparent sabotage.[notes 2] The chopper went down over the trees, but Raccoon Police Department pilot, Kevin Dooley, and his S.T.A.R.S. co-pilot, Edward Dewey, managed to bring it down safely enough to avoid casualties.
After a brief search of the area, an upturned military police truck and its missing prisoner prompted a halt to the initial investigation, to be replaced by a manhunt. Bravo Team would eventually find their way into a deserted mansion, where they would lose contact with one another over the next day: Forest Speyer would be killed by crows in the top floor balcony, while Dewey succumbed to his wounds after being mauled by a pack of Cerberus dogs. Rebecca Chambers, too, would disappear for the night, having discovered a deserted train and the prisoner on it. Enrico Marini would disappear from the mansion altogether, while Richard Aiken would be attacked by a gigantic venomous snake.
Death[]
Only moments after the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team's arrival at the mansion late on the 24th, Sullivan was attacked by azombie in the Dining Room. [notes 3] He escaped into a linking hallway, firing as he went, but his shots failed to strike it down. Overwhelming Sullivan, the zombie tore through his throat. When S.T.A.R.S. members Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield arrived in the room seconds later, he lay dying in front of them, passing shortly before his assailant was killed.
