The Marhawa School (マルハワ学園 maruhawa gakuen?) was a prestigious religious academy located in the hinterland forest of Asia, known for being the largest school of its kind in Asia. It was subject to C-Virus testing in early 2012.

History[]

The school was founded by Delenikas, who sought a place to educate refugee children. Over his life the school became a prestigious institution instead catering to the children of East Asia's powerful and connected business and political families. Several of its early students remained however, having gained employment with the school with the duty of maintaining Delenikas' legacy. Following Delenikas' death around the millennium, leadership was passed down to his daughter, Gracia. While she was not qualified to run a school, she nonetheless agreed to become a nun and lead the school as Mother Gracia in his honour.[1]

Marhawa Desire[]

Main article: 2012 Marhawa School incident

At some point in 2012, an incident occurred where two female students fled the academy. One of the escaping students had an accident which took her life, and the surviving one was forcibly taken back to the academy.

It was in this time when Carla Radames, founder and leader of the terrorist organization "Neo Umbrella" infiltrated the compound. Under the disguise of a cloaked traveler, she provided the student who survived the fleeing scene with a mutagenic virus, claiming that it can bring back her deceased friend and exacting revenge. Not long after this encounter, one by one the students and workers of the academy began to turn into zombies, albeit with new traits unknown at the time.

Dr. Doug Wright, an advisor in the BSAA, was called to the academy by its headmistress, Gracia Delenikas. The two attempted to find a solution to the outbreak, but the number of infected students increased rapidly. Doug decided to contact the BSAA for backup, but Gracia was against this option, further worsening the situation. In the ensuing chaos, the headmistress, along with Wright and his companions lost their lives.

The zombified students were later annihilated by BSAA agents dispatched to the area.

Institute[]

Marhawa School taught children for several years of their secondary education, and has been described as a gakuen (学園?), a type of Japanese school which teaches a larger body than normal, in this case being a combined lower and upper secondary school. Located in the isolated forests of Northern Kudankhan, its separation from the rest of the country made it a more attractive option as an elite boarding school, as students were thus totally safe from perceived social corruption. This had the unintended side-effect however of enforcing a social hierarchy among the student body, as children who had arrived after elementary school remained in the same classes throughout.[2] By 2012 bullying had become an institution in and of itself, with instances of more prestigious children assaulting the less wealthy. Under Mother Gracia Delenikas, little if anything was done to stop these problems, as it was believed that raising concerns to parents would give the school a bad image. Due to lack of contact with the outside world, the presence of visiting non-student teenagers was a curiosity.[2]

Due to the school's isolated nature, the needs of students were however well provided for. This included a shopping mall and a florist.[3] Animals such as rabbits were kept around in pens. The school also had a wide arrange of sports activities.

Infrastructure[]

The school grounds were built along the shape of a crucifix, dividing the north, east and west from the south which was staff and visitor's only.

The northernmost part of the school grounds consisted of the Church for holding religious services, close to which was the Delenikas residence. Behind these was a water tank and a breeding pen for animals. Running from west to east were buildings intended for the students, consisting of the library and three dormitories against a garden, the cafeteria building, several classrooms, a theatre, swimming pool, gymnasium and sports grounds and a clinic. The gated-off south side consisted of staff offices, the school generator, a water treatment plant, a garage for campus security vehicles and the staff dorm and cafeteria buildings.
