Mylène Beardsley was the head of the prestigious Beardsley family despite only being 17, while coincidentally also being the seventeenth such head. She lived in a castle on the Scandinavian island of Gadiwell with her butler Gilliam who in fact was actually a member of the Umbrella corporation's Administrative Division Special Affairs Section Two.[1] She was later revealed to be the byproduct of genetic experimentation, and was working on an enhanced version of the T-Virus, the Neo-T Virus. These efforts were not only responsible for the creation of the Bio Organic Weapon Mylenia but also lead directly to the event known as the second Gadiwell outbreak in the late 1990s.

Biography[]

Prior to the events of the story her father subjected Mylène to genetic experimentation allowing her full access to her brain's processing power at the cost of making her personality cruel and unstable. Her now genius intellect later ended up being augmented further by her own research in modern cybernetic techniques, allowing her to effortlessly access information on the internet including classified military files with just a thought. After her father died, she sought to gain control over the Umbrella Corporation, which according to her had actually been secretly supported by the Beardsley family since its foundation by Oswell E. Spencer. To that end she decided to continue her father's work on the T-virus eventually developing a genetic recombination computer program of her own design and an improved version of the virus which she dubbed the Neo-T Virus.

In the course of pursuing her goals she conducted many unnecessary and inhumane experiments on the local islanders creating numerous zombies which she initially managed to keep contained in her castle's dungeon, while at same time also creating several improved creatures via the Neo T-Virus, including Mylenia, who was modeled after her own DNA. Unfortunately Mylène's casual disregard for human life began to cause problems as the dungeon soon became overcrowded with zombies from her excessive experiments leading to some of her researchers getting infected and spreading the T-virus out into the wild. Due to this screwup Umbrella was forced to hire mercenaries who disguised as a film crew proceeded to try and kill not only the infected but also any witnesses including Bale the uncle of local girl Rain Rubens. This would prove to be a mistake though as Rain would eventually enlist the aid of her friend Kate and former Special Air Service member Norse Chirac to find her uncle. In the course of their search the group was attacked by zombies and Kate ending up falling down a steep slope which lead to her being captured by Mylène's men and used in experiments that ultimately zombified her. Ignorant of Kate's fate Norse and Rain went looking for her and not only found clues that pointed toward her being taken to the Beardsleys castle, but also found evidence of Mylène's experiments.

Upon learning of their discoveries, Mylène had Gilliam lure the pair to a dinner party she was hosting for the CEOs of Umbrella's allies, and then had Rain abducted when the pair was briefly separated in order to draw Norse into a trap. Afterwards Mylène personally arrived at Rain's holding area, and after having her restrained, then offered her "soup" that included Kate's eyeballs, which resulted in Rain screaming and Norse following the source of the scream into an ambush by several armed attackers. After seeing Norse defeat her men Mylène activated her backup trap which collapsed the floor underneath Norse and dropped him into her dungeon where he was forced to kill a zombified Kate.

However, Mylene's plan ultimately backfired on her as Norse in the course of trying to escape her other zombies found a lever which he used to activate a trap left behind by the castle's builders 500 years prior. The trap's activation collapses part of the castle ceiling not only killing many of the zombies but also triggering several fiery explosions and severing several power lines which causes the castle's electronic door locks to fail. With nothing baring their way now, several surviving zombies were able to enter the castle proper and feed on many of the party guests and staff who were helpless to do anything, as the prior explosions had also released an experimental nerve gas into parts of the castle.

After being informed of this latest development Gilliam, who had been growing steadily more fed up with his bratty mistress and her incompetence, finally had enough and turned completely against her. Gilliam opened a link to Umbrella executive board and notified them that Mylène's selfish and incompetent behavior had lead to the loss of the facility, and was given the go ahead to "take care of her."

Meanwhile, as this was occurring Mylène directly contacted Norse who had made his way inside the castle's lab, and after relaying her past to him, she proceeded to undo Rain's restraints and sent her to the room Norse was in. The countess then challenged Norse to protect Rain and deployed various culture tanks from cold storage that contained monsters tasked to kill the pair, but with Rain's help Norse was able to kill them all. Mylène, refusing to accept this outcome, then deployed her trump card Mylenia who swiftly overpowered Norse. At the last second though Mylène physically entered the lab and stopped her creation from killing Norse before offering him a chance to surrender, an offer which he promptly rejected.

Before Mylène could order his death though she was interrupted by the castle's power plant exploding and the subsequent arrival of Gilliam and several turncoat researchers to the lab. Gilliam then told her she had been fired from Umbrella before snatching Mylenia's control device and smashing it, all while calling Mylène a failed experiment which Umbrella has already gotten all they needed from. Shortly after they left Mylène was seemingly killed when Norse shot her in the chest after she tried to kill Rain with Norse's gun in revenge.

Later though when Mylenia unexpectedly arrived at the pier where Rain and Norse were fighting Gilliam to reach an escape boat Mylenia, after killing Gilliam, began to speak and revealed herself to be Mylène resurrected thanks to having her memories copied into her alter ego's body at the moment of her original body's death. Planning to flay the flesh from Norse's body in revenge for her prior death Mylène/Mylenia prepared to strike him down but became momentarily distracted allowing Norse to bisect her with a barrage of rounds from Gilliam's revolver. Despite her grievous wounds though the creature still managed to live on with her upper-body desperately grabbing onto the boat's hull with her claws in an effort to prevent her targets from escaping. Before she could climb aboard the boat though Norse managed to slam the boat's anchor into her causing her to lose her grip and be sucked away into a water vortex where she finally drowned.

Trivia[]

Mylene's backstory as an aristocrat who underwent genetic modification regarding increased intelligence bears a striking resemblance to the backstory of Alexia Ashford from Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Meanwhile, her habit of experimenting on people on an isolated island and the transference of her mind into an infected body by a technological means makes her similar to Alex Wesker the primary villain of Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Given the Beardsley family's reputed secret connections to Umbrella and Spencer, and the fact Alexia was born some years before Mylene was its plausible that Earl Beardsley reused the Ashford family's research into the genetic origin of intelligence to aid in Mylene's mental enhancement. Meanwhile, it's also plausible that Alex Wesker could have borrowed some of Mylene's mental uplink research and technology for use in her own plans following the latter's death.
