Degeneration was announced in October 2007, several weeks after the release of Resident Evil: Extinction and slated for a late-2008 release.[1] Sony and Capcom held a press conference at the San Diego Comic-Con on 25 July 2008 where they showcased a new trailer for the film. At the time a limited theatrical release was confirmed for Japan, with it going straight-to-video in North America later in the year.[2] Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield were confirmed for the film, played by Paul Mercier and Alyson Court respectively.[2]
Capcom promoted the film at the 2008 Tokyo Game Show, where they introduced Anna Tsuchiya as the performer of their image song.[3] The following day a private screening of the film was held.

Game adaptation[]
A non-canon game based on Degeneration has been made for the cell phone N-Gage entitled biohazard DEGENERATION.[1]. In 2009, it was released in the US and UK for iOS devices. It currently remains as one of the only portable Resident Evil games.
Only Leon is playable in the game. Claire also appears in the game but is not playable.
