In 1998, Tiger Electronics bought the license to port Resident Evil 2 from Capcom in order to attract buyers to their new handheld console, the Game.com, which was intended to compete with the GameBoy. Due to the limited availability of the Game.com software development kits, the game was recreated entirely by Tiger's in-house team.
