Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour known in Japan as BIOHAZARD 7 TEASER -BEGINNING HOUR- (バイオハザード7 ティザー ~ビギニングアワー~) is an hour-long Resident Evil 7: Biohazard teaser demo that was released 13 June 2016 for the PlayStation Network to users with PlayStation Plus memberships after the full game's announcement at E3 2016 and is set to release at a later date on other platforms.

Capcom later revealed that the teaser is a prologue, a standalone experience and won't be featured in the final game, which will feature a different protagonist than the ones in the demo and more variety in its environments and additional mechanics and features not found in the demo, such as combat with enemies and resource management and solving puzzles.[1][2][3] It will also take place after both KITCHEN and Beginning Hour.[4] On September 15, 2016 an update was made to the demo. This update, titled Twilight Ver., features additional rooms and items.[5] On December 3, 2016 the final update to the demo was released. This update, titled Midnight Ver., featured even more rooms and items, and also altered the locked door to have mold on it as well as hints at something more. The demo was released on December 9 and December 19 for Xbox One and Steam, respectively.[6]

Plot[]

Recording Start

The demo starts with the protagonist waking up in a house, with the objective being to escape the house. After wandering around for a while and looking for the way out, the protagonist comes across a video tape, titled "Derelict House Footage". After placing the tape in a tape player found in the house, the protagonist watches the recording.

The recording starts on June 1, 2017, at 10:23pm. It is a rehearsal tape for the show Sewer Gators, investigating the "Dulvey Haunted House" with crew members cameraman Clancy Jarvis; anchorman Peter Walken, and producer Andre Stickland. In order to rehearse for the show they decide to break into the house and investigate. They wander around the house, while Andre and Pete converse about the house's history. The house is said to have been abandoned for three years, and was originally owned by the quiet Baker family, consisting of Jack, Marguerite, and their son Lucas, the latter of whom is described as a bad seed.

Shortly after the dialogue, Andre wanders off and disappears. When Pete and Clancy notice his absence, they walk around the building to investigate. After some time wandering they find a secret passage, revealed by activating a lever hidden in a fireplace. The secret passage leads to a ladder to an underground area. Pete sends Clancy down first "to get a nice hero shot of [him] coming down the ladder". Clancy reaches the bottom to find Andre facing a wall on the other side of the room. Moving closer, it becomes clear Andre is dead, and his corpse falls on top of Clancy. A man comes out of the shadows and moves towards Clancy, with screaming lingering for several seconds as audio, the video being cut.

Ending 1: Back Door Key / Linear[]

The story switches back to the protagonist. Starting at the same fireplace, he enters the passage where the ladder has now disappeared, a key to the back door being found in its place. Heading out the passage and towards the door, the protagonist sees the silhouette of a man pass by. Reaching the back door, the protagonist is confronted by a man - Jack Baker - who says "Welcome to the family, son" before punching him unconscious.

Clancy Jarvis wakes up in a room tied to a chair with Peter Walken unconscious on the floor. Pete awakens and finds a knife and attempts to cut the protagonist's bindings to free him, but gets stabbed through the chest by a woman in the process. The woman, then moves towards the victim, ending the demo.

Ending 2: Linear Alternate[]

This ending still has the protagonist being ambushed by Jack Baker and Clancy being killed by the woman, but with some extra content.

The game fades to the image of a phone ringing in a dark room. The sound of somebody picking up the phone can be heard, followed by a man's voice saying, "She's back".

A video plays, which is the actual trailer for Resident Evil 7. This features parts of the demo as well as content not seen in the events of the demo version and the song "Go Tell Aunt Rhody". The trailer finishes with the title and release date of the game and the game ends.

Ending 3: Power of Choice[]

This ending is achieved by using the Fuse and answering the phone in the secret room upstairs. If the phone is picked up, a conversation ensues between the protagonist and an unknown woman.

  • Woman: "I know who you are."
  • Protagonist: "Who are you?"
  • Woman: "You have the power to choose, but the outcome of that choice may not be what you expect."

The protagonist is then ambushed by Jack Baker and the demo ends.

Ending 4: Picture / Memories[]

The same as ending 3, but the final words spoken by the woman on the phone are different.

  • Woman: "I know who you are."
  • Protagonist: "Who are you?"
  • Woman: "Memories hold the truth. Don't let appearances mislead you."

The protagonist is then ambushed by Jack Baker and the demo ends.

Ending 5: Axe / Goodbye[]

The same as endings 3 and 4, but the final words spoken by the woman on the phone are different.

  • Woman: "I know who you are."
  • Protagonist: "Who are you?"
  • Woman: "You will have to say goodbye eventually. But will you be ready?"

The protagonist is then ambushed by Jack Baker and the demo ends.

Ending 6: Closed Doors[]

This ending is achieved by finding the basement key, then answering the phone in the secret room upstairs. When the phone is picked up, a conversation ensues between the protagonist and an unknown woman.

  • Woman: "Did you find what you were looking for?"
  • Protagonist: "Who's this? What the fuck is going on?"
  • Woman: "What do you mean? Everything seems fine to me. Just remember, all doors can be opened. If they couldn't, they wouldn't be doors."
  • Protagonist: "What?"
  • Woman: "But some doors must remain closed - for now."

The protagonist is then ambushed by Jack Baker and the demo ends, as always.

Infected Ending[]

This ending is achieved by taking damage from the Molded and escaping with the window key, then entering the attic and escaping. The protagonist begins to become infected and falls down the ladder where Jack Baker will approach the protagonist and says to the protagonist, "Boy, you are nothing, just a man without a family." Jack will then grab the protagonist to presumably be turned into a Molded.

True Ending[]

This ending is achieved by not taking any damage by the Molded and escaping with the window key, then get to the attic and climb the ladder. The screen will fade to white which implies the protagonist has escaped the house, when text will appear on the screen explaining that the authorities found no evidence of anything happening. The protagonist seemed convincing until the drug LSD was found in the possession of him in which the authorities simply discounted him. The title of this ending implies that it is the canon ending for Beginning Hour's protagonist. However, the demo protagonist's fate doesn't have any relevance to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard's plot.
