RE:NOT

The Resident Evil Wiki is first and foremost an online encyclopedia for all things related to the Resident Evil franchise, and, as a means to that end, an online community of people interested in building a high-quality Resident Evil encyclopedia in a spirit of mutual respect. Please avoid the temptation to use the Resident Evil Wiki for other purposes, or to treat it as something it is not.

What Resident Evil Wiki is not[]

A fanfiction site[]

The Resident Evil Wiki is designed for the incorporation of official, licensed works relating to the Resident Evil franchise. Its users and administrators work hard to ensure that every article contains information that has been officially recognized. Many people on the site are working on fanfiction of their own, but fanfiction items themselves do not have a place among the Resident Evil Wiki's articles. You are free to add a link to your own fanfiction Resident Evil-related stories on other sites like the Gory Storm Wiki, but no articles incorporated into Resident Evil Wiki about them will be kept.

A speculative forum[]

The intrigue behind the Resident Evil series is its mystery; there is a great deal of the storyline that has not been revealed to the world.

Because of this, many Resident Evil Wiki articles contain speculation as to the nature or actions of certain characters or storylines. However, Resident Evil Wiki articles are designed to display information, not speculation. If you have a theory about something related to the Resident Evil franchise, the best place to put it would be in the Talk Page of the article. This way, various speculation on the article can be left to a minimum; lots of speculation on an article page makes it long, confusing, and counterproductive.

An argumentitive forum[]

Articles and their respective talk pages are not for the purpose of forum-style writing, and talk pages should only be used for discussions as to how to improve its article. Talk page topics in the style of "I hate this game" do not contribute to the improvement of information and are discouraged. Such topics are to be closed with the {{hat}} and {{hab}} templates.

An indiscriminate collection of information[]

The content of the Resident Evil Wiki is based entirely of items that have been mentioned in the Resident Evil franchise. Though there are many potential items that could be included in the wiki, they are not added because this may clash with future developed storylines. Other articles are discouraged against due to their notability, and may be merged into lists.

A social network[]

The Resident Evil Wiki is a reference wiki for all things related to Resident Evil. It is an interesting project and is always growing. Please remember that users are here to contribute and get information, not to socialize. Therefore, please keep all comments on the discussion pages of articles on the topic of the article. If you wish to talk to another user outside of the Resident Evil Wiki, give them a way to contact you that does not interfere with the project pages, such as on their talk page.

Wikipedia[]

The Resident Evil Wiki is not Wikipedia or any other wiki site. The Resident Evil Wiki is an independent wiki and it follows its own set of guidelines as outlined in the Help:Contents section. The Resident Evil Wiki sometimes takes ideas from larger and more developed wikis, but policy is always the highest authority on this website.

A democracy[]

Like virtually all wikis, the Resident Evil Wiki is not a democracy. Many popular issues are put up to a user vote, but important decisions are made based on discussion; not consensus or voting. The reasoning for this is that legitimate concerns cannot be ignored in light of important decisions, and one opinion is not necessarily equal to another; particularly when experience plays into the decision. These details must be ironed out in discussion before a decision is made.

A soapbox[]

The Resident Evil Wiki is not a website for individual opinions on any subject. The wiki's articles are to be completely neutral on every subject, conveying all information available, and nothing more. Any creation of articles or editing of existing articles to reflect individual opinions or ideas on subject matter that consist of personal opinions on a topic will be immediately reverted or deleted. Opinions can be expressed on user pages, talk pages, or forums, but not articles. An example of this is the repeated changing of Albert Wesker's status from "deceased" to "alive" based on the user's opinion that he did not in fact die in Resident Evil 5.

Censored[]

While the Resident Evil Wiki should be written in a style that is friendly and formal, it may at times display subject material that can be interpreted as offensive. Provided that this information is factual and consistent with the franchise , it should not be censored. An example is the quote "Shit! It's broken," which should not be altered to read "S***!" Additionally, offensive or triggering subjects depicted in the Resident Evil franchise should not be written out.

Capcom[]

While Resident Evil is a Capcom-owned franchise, the Resident Evil Wiki is not affiliated with Capcom or other gaming businesses. Petitions by people requesting or demanding that we make additions or changes will be treated as spam.
