Route 6 was a Pennsylvania rural highway at "the foothills of the Arklay Mountains". It was closed by the Raccoon City Police Department in mid-July 1998 with a roadblock in response to the disappearance of three hikers earlier in the week. By now the number of killings had reached nine, with another three disappearances.

Further notes

The real Route 6 runs east–west from Massachusetts to California, with much of the Pennsylvania stretch being rural as depicted in the novel.
