The 1996 Tokyo Game Show (TGS 1996 for short) was a game show held in two parts in Japan in Spring and Autumn 1996.

The world's first look at Resident Evil 2 took place in the earlier of the TGS events. A ten-second lip of an outlined 'character' firing at a large group of Zombies was used as the promotional footage. With the game still early in development, there was no background and the rest of screen was black. The purpose of this footage was to show players of the original Resident Evil that advances in PlayStation development meant that more enemies could be generated in the same room.
