I'm done with this Wiki, and here's why

I just wanted to say that I'm done with this Wiki. I will no longer be adding anything to the Wiki. I may not have been adding things for very long, but I have noticed a lot of problems with the Wiki.

The biggest issue, is the disconnect between what the community wants in the Wiki, and how the Wiki is run. I liked coming to this Wiki, before being a contributor, because there was a certain amount of speculation behind many topics and that it felt like a fan-run Wiki. Now though, with the recent RE titles it seems that the Wiki is being run... differently. Maybe different isn't the word, but the community and how the Wiki is being editied is the same, it's just that a lot of strange decisions are being made. Cutting up a single page into a lot of useles pages, cutting information completely, and a lot of that speculation that drew me to be a contributor is being stiffled. It's like the Wiki is trying to look and seem more professional, but is doing it wrong.

I'm not asking anyone to change how the RE Wiki is run, but I am highlighting these issues so that others might fix them in the future. I hate the RE Wiki, it's by far the worst Wiki for any video game that I've seen. That can be fixed, and I really hope it's fixed. More likely though, there's no hope left. I'll try to counter your points
  1. The articles were being "cut up" over a long period of time, starting with Anderson versions of characters being separated from the general article (eg. Jill Valentine's film version getting her own page); we then forked-over excess images and quotation pages. It wasn't as an intentional-yet-flawed effort to "look professional".
  2. I am assuming this "cutting information completely" ties into the speculation you mentioned. That's relating to our De-trivialization movement. Back when we had a points system, a lot of users would spend a lot of their time adding in ridiculous note onto the wiki, usually explaining in summation what the article is about ("it is a gun") or so to throw in generally-poor-quality material regarding how Albert Wesker is clearly not dead because... while it appears that his head was incinerated, he actually ducked by moving it into his body.
  3. After checking up your one-and-a-half months of contributions, you seem to be against the recent consensus to split off articles relating to items so that we can detail their features and chart upgrades for that particular game. It's not the article-forking that you're against, this time, but the fact that - as shown on Talk:FN P90 - users are removing completely-irrelevant information in the process. We never wanted a huge article covering a weapon, primarily being a Wikipedia article on the gun's history. Just stick in a link to Wikipedia or Gunpedia; it's not for us.

So, you're saying that this is the worst Wikia Gaming wiki (or indeed gaming wiki in general) because you consider our removal of pointless; incorrect and made-up material to make us appear cold and heartless in comparison to your thoughts of the opposite, where everyone is apparently rather happy. And, considering that the forking of pages has been going on for well over a year, just reporting it now is rather late. -- Forerunner03:04, October 12, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, that basically sums up what he's saying. You know....if you get fed up with the wiki, and have decided to leave...is it really necessary to add an entire topic to the page to tell people you're leaving? Key of Destiny (talk) 03:28, October 12, 2012 (UTC)

The reason why it seems we are turning into a more professional wiki, is because we are. Believe it or not, alot of people actually come here to find out information on the Resident Evil universe. We want to make our information as accurate as possible, because the purpose of this wiki is to gather up information on the Resident Evil universe. It's an encyclopedia on Resident Evil. Not a Resident Evil theory blog filled with random trivia and speculation.

Sure speculation can be interesting at times, but it's not always accurate. Also, for the most part, were only removing completely useless trivia, like the one of Raymond Vester looking like Conan o'Brien. We split apart alot of the pages because some of the guns weren't confirmed by capcom, and alot of them have changes compared to the original, making them into completely new weapons. For example, the Mini SMG looks like a Mac-10 but has a slanted pistol grip, which is something I've never seen before... ever. We also split apart DBG because we believe it's better for them to have their own page.

But what I couldn't explain about our processes and reasoning, Fore can. So I'm glad you think we are the worst wikia ever for actually attempting to make our information more accurate, and therefore more like a respected Resident Evil Encyclopedia, and less like a R.E. Theory Blog.ZeroMP5CLRNecromancer115 .  14:17, October 12, 2012 (UTC)

Inserted Evil and Portable?

I don't see how Inserted Evil can be listed as an actual game, it just seems to be some Contest for "sidestorys" but it's by far no game! And about Portable, Comon! It's obvious that it's cancelled isn't it? Even though it wasn't offical announced as "cancelled" it should be put out of the list as long as there are news about it.

Well I believe inserted evil is being done by capcom so you can't just write it off as non canon material. It's supposed to lead into the story of Operation Raccoon City so any information that they provide in it will be supported by the story of ORC. And about Resident Evil portable I'm not sure what your annoyed about with it. There's a page on it that only says that it was a real thing. No material related to the story or characters from it exist as far as I know.

What I want to know is why there's a page for Dino Stalker. I mean I know it's gun survivor 3, between survivor 2 code veronica and dead aim, but it really has nothing to do with resident evil. Totally random game.

BrianIronMan 23:04, October 4, 2011 (UTC)

We have articles on non-RE titles when appropriate. The Dino Crisis series was made by many RE developers and used the RE3 system, introducing the Combo points system for the Mercenaries and being the start of the "Action-Horror" genre that has an over-focus on shooting (eg. resident Evil 5). Gun Survivor 3 seems to just be here to stop people asking why Dead Aim is part #4.-- Forerunner 07:03, October 5, 2011 (UTC)

No Forums?

I noticed that unlike most other wikis Im on that this has no community area for forums, discussions, etc. Im sure there's a reason but I found it very odd, unless Im missing something. Why is this? WhiteClaudia 04:13, October 4, 2011 (UTC)

A lot of users around here are poorly-educated with such concepts; hell, they'd blank a template for being "broken" than fix a field tag. We stopped using forums because it turned out that most people only looked at the shortlist of recent blog posts.-- Forerunner 07:00, October 4, 2011 (UTC)
Some blogposts are annoying, idk...and i think people would be familiar with THREADS, if we can have them, i guess they'd be popular. and i yeah, it's hard for me to make templates in other wiki <~< like FML. >,< http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z463/twilightxsparkle/twilightsparklewalk.gif Twilight Sparkle 08:01, October 4, 2011 (UTC)
Well, a forum page in a wiki format would be indistinguishable from a talk page, with the exception being a more specific subject matter (a talk page on the other hand relates to the maintenance of its respective article). We have many problems with user-unawareness, and I would like to see the return of forums along with the return of the standard wiki editor to encourage people to edit properly (seriously, cleaning up after you lot is like the wiki version of the exorcist).-- Forerunner 15:59, October 4, 2011 (UTC)

Resident Evil Revelations Category

I think that we shoul move down Resident Evil Revelations to ``Spin-Off Titles´´. I am pretty sure that this game is not going to add anything to the story, and it will be dispensable. Plus, it is for Nintendo 3DS. NINTENDO 3DS?! Come on, this is NOT going to be a ``Real´´ Resident Evil game, same as Operation Raccon City, that doesn`t add anything at all to ``main´´ story, nor like numeric games or code veronica.

You have a very biased view on how the series works. What do you mean by "dispensable"? Is the plot unnecessary when giving a series overview? Do you think that spin-offs would be more liable to being retconned out? Further, why would being a Nintendo 3DS game make it a game unlike the others, being related in name only? I mean - the thing was intended to be a Survival Horror, and it looks like it worked; it looks like a more scary version of Resident Evil 4 - you don't seem to have any misgivings with that game. Please present a remotely valid argument, next time. On a lighter note, many users both here and Wikipedia have been switching Revelations between "main series" and "spin-off". The "spin-off" camp argue that it doesn't have a numeric title (then again, neither did Code: Veronica), while the "main series" camp argue that it is intended to bridge the gap between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 (they are sure of themselves that Capcom meant it literally, and ignore the possibility that it meant position in the timeline).-- Forerunner 21:36, November 3, 2011 (UTC)
You're wrong, thankfully. Revelations is the same as CODE:Veronica in terms of relation to the story. In fact, the other games like Gun Survivor and Outbreak should not be labelled "spin-off titles", because officially, they're not. They're defined by CAPCOM as "extra chapters". A spin-off is the likes of Gaiden, Operation Raccoon City, the Beast of the North Sea novel and the drama albums. News Bot 21:27, November 3, 2011 (UTC)
Spin-offs are defined by sharing particular characters, events or simply setting. I would define most of the titles in the series as equivalent to Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - they are both spin-offs of Star Trek: The Next Generation; both are based around the same time as their antecedent and a number of characters and plots are shared (Worf moving to DS9, the Borg invasion of Earth and the Dominion War discussed in Voyager). Of course, based on your comment, it would appear that Capcom has their own word for their Gun Survivor and Outbreak titles.-- Forerunner 21:46, November 3, 2011 (UTC)

Typo in Revelations Slideshow

There's a typo in the Il Veltro slide. "Dephts." I tried fixing it, but I wasn't sure from the preview if that messed with the script, so I didn't save the change...Don't wanna break anything, even if there is an undo feature, y'know? .___. CrimsonCerberus 00:27, December 31, 2011 (UTC)

I take it you founded this wiki and you run it Forerunner.

Thanks and good job,

Main Page

What happened to the previous design of the main page, that had various sections listed out? I felt it was very nice and convenient. Is there a reason why it changed to its current version? Maybe there should a section that has all that information, similar to the one on the final fantasy wiki.

Also, is it correct that this talk area is now the replacement of the forums?

Xalibar 04:09, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

Those various sections were constantly altered by users, with many being reverted; it led to the "what is/isn't a spin-off" arguments and the "who is worthy of being mentioned in the "antagonists" list" stuff. Even at the time of making the page-alterations the talk page was not the "replacement to the forums". The forums were never replaced; they were simply unused because a lot of people wanted to use the blogs, instead. This page has always served as a general discussion-page.-- Forerunner 03:36, October 12, 2012 (UTC)

Poll

Should i create a poll asking fans if they want a Resident Evil title for the Wii U? I think this will show that Capcom doesn't respect Nintendo with the main series. RE1, RE2, and RE3 were all first started with the PS1. But the Nintendo ports get the worst reviews in history (Except for the N64 port of RE2). Not to mention that Capcom broke their promises by porting RE4 to the PS2, which is the best selling version yet and with less-favorable graphics. - Ehm, friend, just to clarify, the Gamecube and Wii had the best reviews for RE4, and Nintendo didn't get RE5 or RE6. Luckily that changed with Revelations (Unveiled) which also got great reviews. -- MeDeoPal (talk) 15:07, March 26, 2013 (UTC)

Character Mainstream Bios

I was reading several of the character profile pages and was thinking that the Portrayers in the Live action movies shouldn't be listed in the mainstream section of each character and instead used only in the "other canon" section. It just seems pointless having that information in both pages. -- The Demon In Me (talk) 04:27, November 4, 2012 (UTC) -- The Demon In Me (talk) 04:28, November 4, 2012 (UTC) Shockstorm (talk) 02:39, December 30, 2012 (UTC)
