Teresa Hardy (born 1988) had been involved in a clinical trial for a new Umbrella paediatric heart medication, Valifin. As it turned out, the drug did exactly what it was supposed to do-but it also caused renal failure, and in Teresa Hardy's case, the damage had been severe. She survived, but the side-effect left her in a state that she may have to have been on dialysis for the rest of her life. Umbrella sent in Bill Nyberg and several other people to offer money to the Hardy family to keep quiet, though one of their concerns was that the family lawyer - aware of the case - would take a large percentage of the money.
