The intro discusses Shinra's war with Ouma. Both are secret, ancient Asian organizations that are aware of interdimensional travel. Ten years before the events of the game, Ouma tried to activate a gateway in Shibuya to bring chaos to the Earth, but Ouma agent Saya was prevented by Reiji's father, who died in the act. ---- In Prologue 1 Shibuya has been evacuated after another Ouma attack successfully brought Kamaitachi into the Material World. Shinra agents Xiaomu and Reiji combat them during their investigation. They then encounter Goblins, who are more spiritual than physical and so are invulnerable to bulletfire. Another Quake brings in KOS-MOS; M.O.M.O. and Shion (XenoSaga), who are confused by the situation. KOS-MOS' anti-Gnosis weapon, the "Hilbert Effect", is used against the Goblins and they become physical beings that can be destroyed. Elsewhere in Shibuya, Shadaloo agents Cammy; Juri and Juni arrive. They have orders from Vega to attack Shinra HQ and take out any members in the streets. They are pursued by Chun-Li, who remembers Cammy as a Shadaloo agent and wants answers to what the organization is planning and how they survived the events of the Street Fighter games. The Shadaloo agents run into Xiaomu and Reiji, and Cammy orders Juri and Juni to kill them while she continues in search of the Shinra HQ. Chun-Li catches up and fights the two Shadaloo agents, forcing them to flee with her in pursuit. Shinra and the XenoSaga cast decide to join forces.
Prologue 2 starts off in the Fantasy World, with an underwater cave section of a secret Oberon Corporation base.
Stahn Aileron; Rutee Katrea; Dymlos Timber and Atwight Eks corner Judas (all from Tales of Destiny), who is in possession of the "Eye of God", a powerful artefact said to be from the Makai which can cause great destruction. Judas does not care about the harm it will cause in their world, and tries to use it. Stahn attacks him and seriously wounds him. As Judas dies, he tells them 'it' has already begun. The cave starts collapsing, prompting the four to make a fast escape.
Gantz and Klonoa are discussing the peaceful nature of their village when they are attacked by monsters. Gantz believes he has seen the golden knight Gilgamesh, who has been in retirement for a number of years after his defeat of Druaga. Due to his legendary status, if he is involved it must be serious. Gantz and Klonoa decide to go on a quest to take down Gilgamesh's enemy, expecting to receive a large reward for the bounty based entirely on Gilgamesh's presence. They head off to the Tower of Druaga, where they expect Gilgamesh to be headed.
Kurino Sandra and Sabine discuss the current events. Due the goddess Ishtar banning all Sandras from participating in the conflict, Kurino Sandra has been banished from his tribe. Sabine does not care if he becomes a traitor to the Quarkmen and the two agree to head out to the Tower of Druaga.
Stahn and Rutee discuss what happened in the cave, with Stahn questioning his actions; Rutee points out that if he didn't attack Judas he'd be dead. Moving on in their conversation, Rutee asks where Gilgamesh is, as they were due to meet him. Ten minutes pass without any word from the golden knight. Silence is broken by the arrival of monsters. Gantz and Klonoa soon arrive and complain about Stahn and Rutee being in the way of the battle they are expecting with Gilgamesh; the two groups soon realise they have a common purpose. After more creatures attack, Dymlos and Atwight notice that timespace is being distorted somehow. Upon being attacked by Blue Knights, Kurino and Sabine arrive to provide more assistance.
Joker enters the Fantasy World to investigate why Druaga's minions are having problems. To settle the questions he expects from the eight fighters, he reveals that he has not appropriated Druaga's minions, but Druaga himself is alive and he is allied with him. The group find it hard to accept Druaga's survival, however, and believe Joker to be lying. A mysterious ninth person interjects, asking about Druaga's condition; it is revealed to be Gilgamesh himself who, along with Ki, has returned from retirement solely to finish Druaga. Joker leaves upon the defeat of his entire force. The gang becomes acquainted with one another, but know they have more work to do when Gilgamesh says he has news about the Eye of God.
Prologue 3:
Samurai Heishirō Mitsurugi is travelling through a bamboo grove in the Mōryō World in search for the Soul Edge. He encounters his rival, the ninja Taki, along the way and deduces she is also after the sword and therefore he is indeed on the right track. Mitsurugi reaches Kaminoi Castle where the Soul Edge is kept, but finds that the ancient warrior of the Minamoto clan, Yoshitsune and his servant Saito Musashibo Benkei have beaten him to it. They send their skeleton guards to fight him, who he easily defeats. Taki arrives at the castle and, assessing the situation, identifies the two men to the historically-ignorant Mitsurugi, leaving questions as to how two warriors from the 12th century could be alive. Taki senses a strange energy, which precedes the arrival of Gilly Octies in a Quake; when this happens Benkei lets it slip he is aware of the transdimensional crisis, and boats that an ally will no doubt be brought to the Golden Pond (the Mōryō World).
Meanwhile, in the Material World’s distant future, Toby Masuyo (Baraduke) and Hiromi Tengenji (Burning Force) are exploring ruins on a backwater planet. Finding them to be largely intact, Toby suspects that the scavenging Diggers may already be inside and orders Hiromi to give the order to evacuate the planet. Hiromi argues over the order on the grounds that the piratess Tron Bonne (Mega Man Legends) may be nearby and could track down their location. The ruins begin to shake as a Quake occurs, and the two disappear.
Toby; Hiromi; Tron and her Servbots are transported to Kaminoi Castle in the Mōryō World. Confused and threatened by their new location and the presence of Gilly Octies, they call a truce. The others are equally confused by the new arrivals: Benkei considers killing them, while Mitsurugi and Toki consider an alliance with the Material World arrivals. Toby; Hiromi and Tron agree to ally with Mitsurugi and Toki, partly so they may get help in killing the Gilly Octies.
Elsewhere, in the Makai's Sanzu River, Andaba awakens a samurai from the 12th century Taira clan, Kagekiyo from a four hundred year sleep with unfortunate news: Kagekiyo's nemesis Yoritomo, leader of the Minamoto clan, and his army have been revived and sent over to the Golden Pond. Kagekiyo insists on traveling back to the Golden Pond to fight them, but Andaba insists Enma will provide a guide who can move freely between dimensions. Enma calls for Tarosuke (Shadow Land), who appears in front of the two. Andaba sends the two off into the Golden Pond, and warns Kagekiyo that he can only defeat Yoritomo with three sacred vessels: the twisted jewel; the sword and the mirror.
Kagekiyo and Tarosuke transport to Kaminoi Castle. Kagekiyo is immediately recognised by his enemies Yoshitsune and Benkei. Taki notes to Mitsurugi that Kegekiyo is yet another warrior from centuries ago, still not knowing how he could be at Kaminoi Castle. Taki recognises Tarosuke as a being who can transport between the Mōryō World; the Divine World and the Makai, who she is familiar with. Tron and Hiromi are vocally confused by the idea of the two worlds, there being less interaction between it and the Material World, but are accepting of transdimensional travel. Kagekiyo considers killing everyone in the castle, but is talked down by Tarosuke, who does not want Taki to come into any harm. Kagekiyo is perfectly fine so long as he is free to fight Yoshitsune and Benkei. The two are quickly overcome and take flight, but not before Benkei again implies the Minamotos were revived intentionally. With their enemies gone, Mitsurugi sees an opportunity to finally take the Soul Edge for himself, but it disappears into another dimension. Tron; Masuya and Kagekiyo suspect that someone is behind the recent events that have led them to meet.
Prologue 4.
Ishtar and Valkyrie in Ishtar's shrine room. Ishtar asks if Valkyrie is really going to go through with her mission. Ishtar is concerned, and insists Valkyrie bring her servant, Kurino Sandra, but Valkyrie protests that he has a family to protect now and can't have him risk his life for her. Ishtar reveals she has already asked for Kurino's services from the Sandra chieftain, and the Sandra will execute him if he refuses. Ishtar asks if Valkyrie will enlist Arthur and Gilgamesh; both men have retired and Valkyrie does not want to interrupt that retirement.
In the Makai, Demitri Maximoff is greeted at his castle by Morrigan Aensland. He mistakes her entrance for a challenge, but she turns down the fight on account of a lack of interest. Morrigan asks if Demitri is familiar with the demon Druaga, which he knows of as having been cast into the Abyss of Time by humans. Morrigan tells him that the Demon Lord Zouna; Astaroth and the Soul Edge sword suffered the same fate. Demitri surmises that Morrigan is teasing him with the truth, that the Abyss of Time has been opened and its contents returned to their respective regions.
Valkyrie is fighting her way through a Makai village (Ghouls 'n Ghosts), and is near exhaustion in combat against the supernatural inhabitants there, refusing to call for Kurino's aide. Valkyrie leaves the village, only to enter it at the other side due to a spacetime anomaly the village is trapped in. Demitri and Morrigan arrive, causing confusion as Valkyrie mistakes them for her executioners. Morrigan shuts Demitri up when he threatens to do just that and the two form a reluctant alliance when Valkyrie learns the two have no interest in helping the revived Druaga or Asteroth.
As they defeat the village creatures, news arrives of an alliance between Druaga and Asteroth with reinforcements. Their leader, the Red Arremer Joker taunts the lack of Kurino to save Valkyrie. Joker's forces are too powerful, and Valkyrie flees. Demitri loses interest and leaves, while Morrigan teases Joker with a possible confrontation between the Joker and Arthur.
Prologue 5 In the Material World's Metro City, martial artists Ken Masters and Ryū discuss a warning Ryū received from Gouki in Japan (all Street Fighter). They suspect Shadaloo is up to something, and rumours of Interpol agent Chun-Li going off on a mission convince them they must head for Japan.
Elsewhere, Bruce McGivern and Fong Ling (Resident Evil) are traveling on-board a cruise ship, an unnamed sister of the Spencer Rain, which they refer to as "Spencer Rain" out of convenience. Fong Ling is travelling on the ship to Japan as a joint operation between the Chinese security services and Interpol to retrieve the t-Virus believed to have been stolen by Shadaloo. Bruce meanwhile explains that his mission is to recover a Third Energy data disc hidden somewhere on the ship. The two agree not to get in each other's way.
Back in the Makai, Joker; the Red Arremer Joker and Druaga talk in the Tower of Druaga. Joker reveals his responsibility in causing the interdimensional quakes in order to harvest life energy from the Material World to use in a ritual.
Back on the Spencer Rain, zombies have managed overrun it, revealing that samples the t-Virus were onboard. In the ruckus, Bruce discovers SORT agent Regina (Dino Crisis), who is also after the Third Energy data disc. The two ease their tensions when concluding that neither is a Shadaloo agent. Hearing noises on deck, the three reunite outside, where they meet Hsien-Ko (Darkstalkers), a Jiang-Shi from the 18th century. Hsien-Ko warns them to evacuate the ship ahead of a demon attack. Rather than abandon ship, the three agents choose to fight the demons, where they soon after meet the zombie rock star, Zabel Zarock (Darkstalkers). After making it very clear his unrequited love for Hsien-Ko, he reveals himself to have been behind the zombie invasion of the ship. About to run inside, the three are reinforced by martial artists Devil Jin (Tekken), Ryū and Ken Masters (the latter of whom Bruce recognises as an American martial arts champion), who have finished defeating the zombies within the ship. While Zabel can withstand being attacked by the three martial artists, the prospect of Hsien-Ko threatening him is too much, and he leaves. With the monsters gone, the group get to know each other: Ken mistakenly believes Fong Ling and fellow martial artist Chun-Li are sisters; Bruce imagines how hard it would be to explain what just happened to his USSTRATCOM commanders, and Fong Ling and Hsien-Ko bond in making fun of Bruce, much to Regina's confusion. The ship continues on for Japan.
Reiji and Xiaomu lose contact with Shinra HQ. They suspect Shadaloo is responsible for the sleeping sickness that has spread around Shibuya, which Shinra suspects involves the theft of human souls. Reiji decides the gang should go to Mishima's HQ to continue the investigation; Xiaomu insists they go via the Namco Theater.
At the Namco Theater, Sakura and Karin attend a performance by Wonder Momo, which is attended by the people evacuated from Shibuya. The two were able to get tickets due to Karin's family sponsoring Namco Theater. Sakura notes that it is unfortunate Felicia was unable to attend, which annoys Karin given the potential profit lost to there being no performance by Felicia.
An hour later, Kanda Momo stands in the empty theater out of costume. She is met by a person who Amazona, but who Kanda can tell is a fraud. The woman gives her an invitation to meet Lord Druaga. They are interrupted by Bravoman, who announces he has come to free Momo. Bravoman suspects right away that Amazona has been possessed by a demon. Amazona explains she needs Momo because her soul is 'suitable' as a sacrifice to Lord Druaga.
Outside, King and Felicia finally arrive at the theater, the Quakes having caused enough disruption to prevent their arrival on time. The two are confronted by Crab Fencers heading you of the theater. Bravoman and Momo run out just after, pursued by the possessed Amazona and more Crab Fencers and Black Slimes. Bravoman insists Momo 'transform' into her Wonder Momo character to give her the inner strength to make it through the incident.
Sakura and Karin notice the battle and are urged to escape by Bravoman. Bakuda Army androids appear on the street, which convinces Sakura to stay and fight with Wonder Momo and the others, forcing Karin to stay and fight with her.
Chapter 2: Bruce; Fong Ling; Hsien-Ko and Regina arrive in Japan and head outside the Mishima Zaibatsu building to investigate their involvement with a virus. Regina has heard of this organization, which has begun Third Energy research in the ruins of the Ibis Island facility; she considers Shadaloo to be more dangerous however. After an argument over Regina's appearance; Hsien-Ko's participation in the group and what the martial artists from the boat are doing, Bruce gets them back to the issue: they have orders to link up with Shinra, who he understands is an "anti-occult" organization.
Inside the building, Heihachi Mishima and Bakuden discuss the agents outside; Heihachi concludes they are here to investigate them and believe he has the virus they're looking for. He reveals that his possession of the virus was to fulfill a larger plan, but he does not possess it. Black Bravoman, an associate, leaves to fight them.
Back outside, the group begins discussing how Hsien-Ko can exist, eventually accepting in the powers of Oriental magic. Moving on, Regina asks Hsien-Ko why they encountered Zabel Zarock on the cruise liner in the first place. Hsien-Ko reveals that there is a power energy coming out of Tokyo which is responsible for the interdimensional holes, itself explaining the "monster" reports.
The gang are soon attacked by robots led by Black Bravoman, but are helped by the arrival of Kazama Jin, who Bruce reveals is the grandson of Heihachi Mishima. When the robots are defeated, the gang and Jin are found by Xiaomu's gang. Hsien-Ko gets acquainted again with Felicia, a fellow Dark Stalker. After another fight with Black Bravoman, a Quake occurs and the gangs are surrounded by Kamaitachi, yōkai from Japanese mythology. After more fighting, they encounter a mysterious woman involved in incident intimately, who was also responsible for the death of Reiji's parents in the Shibuya battle ten years prior. She gingerly mentions the involvement of Shadaloo leader Vega before leaving.
