Leon RE6 Render Resident Evil 4 takes place in Spain, with Leon being sent on a special mission to recover the president's daughter, Ashley, who has recently been kidnapped. Enemies The first three Resident Evil games dealt with the outbreak of the T-Virus, turning innocent people into mindless, flesh craving zombies. They are dull and slow, but being caught between them could prove to be a life-threatening mistake. These zombies were the primary enemy, but other genetically modified creatures such as Lickers, Hunters, and Chimeras bring forth a more deadly challenge. ResidentEvilGamecbeZombie Resident Evil 4 brought forth a new type of zombie, called the Ganado, which could be clearly defined as a new class of zombie. The Majini of RE5 and the J'avo of RE6 have similar traits. Instead of being slow, lumbering, and having a hunger for flesh, these zombies could communicate, organize, and utilize various weapons to use against the player. These creatures could also morph into something more grotesque before death. Special bio-organic weapons such as the El Gigante or the Reaper could also become a vary deadly adversaries.

Setting The first few Resident Evil games take place in the small, almost suffocating rural town of Raccoon City. The city is eventually destroyed by the outbreak of viruses, and zombies and other deadly creatures begin to overrun the ruins. The first game takes place almost entirely around the Spencer Mansion, located outside of Raccoon city, with the next two games taking place directly within it. The setting in these previous games were very closed off and isolated, adding to the atmosphere. SpencerMasionDark Resident Evil 4 breaks out of the small town setting and began a streak of settings across the globe, with Spain (RE4), Africa (RE5) and then introducing Eastern Europe and China into the mix (RE6). These expanded settings change the atmosphere and pacing of the game. And each of these new global areas provide a new approach of atmosphere that previous games were unable to create.
