(Novelization of Retribution)
Washington, D.C. (formally the District of Columbia) was the capital of the United States. It was one of the few remaining populated cities in the years after the global T-virus pandemic began.
Washington fell victim to the T-virus soon after its spread in 2002. Six or seven years later, the White House became the only surviving populated and heavily-guarded structure in North America. By this point, many of the tourist attractions were partially-demolished, such as the Capitol Building, and the Potolmac River was contested with floating corpses.
