"NO!!! I'm not going anywhere! I'd rather starve to death in here than be eaten by one of those undead monsters!!! NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!"
— Dario Rosso to Jill Valentine

Dario Rosso (ダリオ・ロッソ Dario Rosso?) was a salesman who was with his family in Raccoon City during the outbreak that condemned her to destruction.

Biography[]

Background[]

Almost nothing is known about Dario other than that he wanted to be a novelist, but due to his mother's influence, he resigned from his dream and became a salesman instead.[1] He and his family were apparently not local residents of Raccoon City, as Dario was registered at the Apple Inn, suggesting he was in town on business.[3]

Raccoon City Incident and Death[]

"But this looks like the end for the great Dario Rosso, novelist extraordinaire. Cut down before his prime..."
— Excerpt from Dario's memo about his failure to make his dream come true before his death

On September 24th, when the town was consumed by an epidemic that turned most of the population into zombies, Dario and his family were forced to fend for themselves, attempting to escape the encroaching infected hordes through the ruined streets of Raccoon City without protection or chance of aid.

Some time during the collapse of the city between September 26 and 28,[4][5] Dario's mother, wife, and daughter were killed in the chaos.[1] Being the lone survivor of his family, when Dario finally reached the safety of the warehouse, he was already a completely broken and scared man.[1][5]

"What!? What do you think you're talking about? I just lost my daughter out there! How dare you tell me to go back outside!"
Recollections glossary - Dario Rosso

Dario argues with Jill about going back outside.

Either shortly before or after the death of his family, Dario encountered another survivor, S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine and the pair quickly took refuge in an empty warehouse until the zombie horde outside began to disperse. After enough time had passed, Jill suggested leaving the safety of the building, noting that no rescue was coming for them. However, a traumatized Dario vehemently refused and was offended by her suggestion, having just lost his family. Despite Valentine's pleas, Dario chose instead to lock himself inside a shipping container declaring that he would rather starve than be eaten alive.[6]

While inside the container, Dario wrote a memo where he expressed his despair, believing that he would end up dying like his family and regretted that he failed to follow his passions in life and become an author.[1]

Dead Dario

Dario's corpse can be found by Jill if she returns to the warehouse.

At some point after Jill left the warehouse and reached the Raccoon Police Station, Dario did eventually leave the safety of the shipping container, but, as Jill had alerted, the warehouse was not a secure location; and zombies managed to invade the building's interior and kill him. Jill would later discover Rosso's body if she made the decision to return to the warehouse.[7]

"Yeah, right! You just want to steal my safehouse! Get your own, missy!"
Dario and Jill re3 re

Dario mocks Jill despite her attempts to reason with him.

On the night of September 28th, Dario was found in the Blue Mountain Storehouse by another survivor, S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine, who attempted to convince Rosso to leave the site in order to reach the evacuation chopper that was hovering above. However, Dario scolded her and refused to follow her, locking himself inside a shipping container in the delusion that it was the only safe place and further mocked the officer with snide remarks despite her attempts to reason with him, even suggesting that if she wanted to help, she should handcuff herself to one of the zombies. In this retelling, Dario's final fate or how he died is uncertain, as he was never seen again, leaving what happened to him after Jill left the building unknown since she was unable to return to the storehouse. Dario more than likely did not escape the city prior to it's sterilization.[5]
