Ramón Salazar (ラモン・サラザール Ramon Sarazāru ) was a Spanish nobleman from Valdelobos. A descendent of the 15th century noble warrior, Salazar, Ramón Salazar inherited the position of castellano alongside his peerage, a duty more important to the family than the peerage itself. As the 21st century came about, Salazar left his Catholic faith behind and converted to Los Iluminados, a cult led by Osmund Saddler, who had access to bioweapons research and was interested in Las Plagas. Although his diminutive stature resembled that of a ten-year-old, and his grey hair and wrinkled face gave him the appearance of an elderly man, he was only 20 years old.[3][excerpt 1]
Biography[]
Ramon Salazar is the son of Diego Salazar, 7th Count of Valdelobos and Catalina Salazar. Throughout his childhood, Ramon suffers an illness in which he is not expected to live to adulthood much to Catalina's horror who had invited the "Devil" into their homes in an attempt to save his life against her husband's wishes.[4] The cultists treats his disease by parasitizing him with a dominant species of Plaga. Soon after, Diego is mysteriously murdered with Catalina disappeared shortly afterwards, leaving him as an orphan and inheriting the castle at a young age.[4] In his adolescent years, Ramon develops cruelty when he overhears an servant mocks him with the word "Pulgarcito" and invites her to his chambers where he forces her to kneel and pours vitriol on her face, melting the skin off from her face.[5][6] Though his ancestor, the first castellan, was the topic of much-loved folklore in the region, Salazar himself was unpopular among the villagers.[7]
As time passes, Salazar's cruelty and treachery strengthens and the cult soon learns that they can prey on him. Taking advantage of the castellan's young and isolated state, Osmund Saddler approached Salazar and provided him with insight into Los Iluminados, a modern continuation of the ancient cult stamped out by Salazar's ancestor. Salazar fully accepted Saddler's claim to being a Prophet and comes to see Saddler as his real father over time.[5][8] The mythology of Los Iluminados considered Salazar's family to be tainted by sin ever since the first castellan sealed the Plagas in the ruins his castle was built around.[9] Salazar was determined to atone for this 'sin', and hired a workforce from the nearby village to excavate the ancient ruins formerly sealed off.[9] The parasites were expected to be long dead, and the discovery of their mummified remains suggested as much. However, the workforce inhaled the carcasses' dormant, fine spores, which over a period of several years regenerated into fully-formed Plaga bodies.[10]
Saddler's research team began experimenting on these organisms,[10] and created a large number of Plaga eggs for the purpose of spreading out to the entire region and, eventually, the world.[10] From this research, Salazar was granted one of several genetically modified dominant species Plagas, which would grant him full control over his body as well as the ability to control rank-and-file hosts. Salazar formed a large armed force of Cultists, and used two Verdugo bioweapons as his personal bodyguards. It became Salazar's duty to protect the Queen Plaga, a large creature which asexually reproduced new Plagas constantly.
2004 abduction of President Graham's daughter[]
"Did you say "old man," Mr. Kennedy? It might come as a surprise, but I'm only 20 years old!" — Ramón Salazar[11] |
The Castellan laid many traps, monsters, and Ganado forces throughout the castle to impede Leon's progress. In addition, thanks to Krauser's knowledge of Leon's radio frequency, Salazar was able to hijack the communication line and taunt him as he and Ashley made their way through the castle. Although Salazar repeatedly failed to kill the American agent, he succeeded in recapturing Ashley with the help of his Novistadors.[12] However, Kennedy soon caught up with them and survived yet another trap the Castellan had laid for him. A visibly frustrated Salazar sent one of his Verdugo guards to take care of the American agent, while he and his remaining Verdugo hastily inducted Ashley into Los Iluminados before sending her off to Saddler's island base.[13]
Leon, having survived the Verdugo, pursued Salazar into a tower sheltering the Queen Plaga. The agent made his way to the top and confronted Salazar, who made one final effort to halt his mission by merging into the Plaga's body alongside his last Verdugo bodyguard.[14] All three soon perished, allowing Leon to escape to the island.
Salazar makes his presence known when Leon and Ashley were looking for a way to escape the castle. When he demanded Leon that he hand over Ashley, the US agent refused to do so. Nonetheless, refusing to give up, Salazar declares that Los Iluminados must have Ashley and reveals that with her as the source, due to being infected with a Plagas, then the United States and eventually the world will be overcome with the grace of Osmund Saddler. When he asked the two if they will accept, Ashley firmly rebuffed it. Disappointed by this, he summons a group of Ganados Zealots to kill Leon before departing with his verdugo bodyguards.[2]
Later, as Leon traverses through the castle, Salazar calls him via wired phone, and asks him if he is ready to hand over Ashley, which only annoys Leon. The castellan then proceeded to put on mocking entertainment that the "gallant knight protects the princess fair", which made Ashley uneasy. Later, after Ashley was captured, Salazar speaks to him through a speaker, sardonically mocking him over losing his "companion".
When Leon reached the throne room, Salazar is seen sitting on his throne. After Leon was subdued by one of the cloaked verdugos, Salazar orders his zealots to force Ashley to drink a black substance and callously urges the girl to not resist as it would only worsened her suffering. Before the verdugo would throw Leon into a deep well, Salazar sadistically bids him farewell in Spanish. After Leon survived, and ventured to a part of the castle to rescue Ashley, Salazar was rencountered and the castellan expressed annoyance that Leon will not yield. He then sent two Ganados archers to remove him from the castle.
Salazar was later spied on by Leon, who watches through binoculars as the Castellan and his zealots escort Ashley to a chamber. Meeting with Major Jack Krauser, Ramon immediately hands the girl over to him. When Leon arrived too late to save Ashley, Salazar proceeded to mock him but was inflicted with several wounds by Leon. This caused Salazar to mutate into a hideous monster with his deformed human body appearing in the mouth. During an ensuing battle, though the castellan tried to kill Leon, he however instead met his own defeat at the hands of the agent. In his dying moments, Salazar cried out to his master, begging for help, but he ultimately succumbed to his wounds and dies, allowing Leon to continue further.Family tree[]
